How to Make a Mortise and Tenon Shop Stool

  • I needed a stool for my workshop so in this video I make one using a simple design that would look just as good in your kitchen as in your workshop. I made it from Southern Yellow pine with an Iroko top. I use mortise and tenon joints to make this a very strong build and I also carve out the seat on my CNC to make it more comfortable.

Nice build Tommy, using biscuits to align the pieces is a very good idea. Looking forward to your next video 👍

Excellent build Tommy and very well explained, I like the stopped chamfer method and agree that a moulded seat is a must

Just what I needed. Thanks Tommy. I followed your dimensions exactly and ended up with a very nice stool for the workshop. I used cedar for the base and corotu for the seat. As a beginner I'm delighted how it turned out. Corotu is a common hardwood easily and more importantly cheaply available here in Panama.

Southern Yellow Pine Tommy?? How do u get ur hands on that wood here in Ireland?? Are u on Ireland or America?? I'm wondering how u could get ur hands on Yellow pine from America unless u live there or is it possible to get it here in Ireland. I struggle to find a good timber merhants in Dublin.. I really want to go to a proper timber yard to get rough sawn timber boards but to find that here is weirdly tough Tommy.. Do u have any places u know of ?? Any help would be greatly appreciated pal.. Thanks for this great video. I need a stool like this for my workshop..
