Thanks for video...running a few bitaxes on my umbrel node with public pool .....just curious at the end of your video you said" to get a block you may need to open up a port" ...can you explain please or make a video. Can I not win a block without opening a port? Thanks

You don’t need to open up a port. This was just mentioned because Umbrel in standard config will broadcast a potential new block only via tor but for a solo setup scenario this should be fine

Thanks for the video. Really easy with umbrel, indeed. But, is it really necessary to open up a port for solo mining to find a block? From what i understand, you just need to send the hash to the network, so no inbound connection needed, am i wrong? What difference would it make?

usually umbrel routes all traffic through tor so opening a port would enable clearnet access and a much faster broadcasting of the found block. BUT I've not done all the research on that. Just wanted to add this as a side note

@@WantClue whats the point of running the pool if your can't send a block to the chain.. great video on how easy it is to deploy but it lacks the conf which is needed ..

    Thank you for the guidance.
I have a question. When I set up public-pool on Ubuntu before, I needed to make some changes to the Bitcoin core configuration file. If I use the public-pool app of UmbrellaOS, is it enough to use the default settings of the Bitcoin Node app? Is it necessary to configure things like enabling zmq?

      No it’s not necessary

Hello, good morning, could you explain me which is the port to activate in the modern? Thank you, I remain attentive, excellent video.

This was more of a general statement. If you find a block with your umbrel node it will be broadcasted over tor. As far as I know umbrel does not allow clearnet traffic therefore you don’t need to open any port

What are the cons and pros of using this in case of ckpool or public pool?

one benefit is that you run you pool at home and have full control of it. A downside is that umbrel is not connected to clearnet therefore if you would find a block it could take a couple seconds longer to distribute this block
