I guess most people can't appreciate the higher dynamic range of single channel lenses in comparison to software grayscale converted images. So the additional hardware doesn't profit the product much, which maybe the reason why other brands decided to hold off from adding monochrome lens setup. Just a thought.

I have a few submissions here 1. We cannot use the terminology “Depth” for Images - as the end product is however a planar output. 2. When the background of the object which we focus is getting blurred then the object’s depth is not highlighted - It is just endorsed. Hence it cannot be a depth sensor - It can be an Image endorsement for a particular item in focus. 3. Pixel is said as the smallest component of an image. But Human eyes are supporting to see the outward world as it is - It is a multi - dimensional explorative vision (That is why it is Eyeball - not eye planar ). Whereas Image is a single dimensional planar output which supports the realism to the maximum possible extent and pixel is attributed to it as a referential unit. It cannot be attributed to human eyes as having larger Megapixels.

Not all primary camera's does bring shallow depth of field using software if you have a bigger sensor(size not pixel count) and /or if you have a bigger(wider) aperture yoou can achieve excellent shallow depth of field that is why DSL and its lenses are soo big to make ful use of its huge sensors
