We can learn a couple things from this video. Based on his measurements, we can assume he is at perhaps a table, about 4ft5in from the wall rather than facing an object? Why? We can assume with a slightly higher certainty that he was able to make the measurements with them side by side on a large, fixed object such as the wall. We can also base some additional facts from the observation such as his table is crooked. Now that is quite troubling. Onwards, tune in tomorrow in the comments where we will further analyze reflections and light levels in order to get a more accurate picture of the setting he is in. After that unit of analysis, we will begin deconstructing sound waves and frequencies systematically, after which we will then analyze them psychologically to pick up on possible embedded tones performed subconsciously during reviews based on the space around him E.G. a suppressed painful yelp could indicate a catus has scratched his owner.
The motor that makes the noise is positioning the calibration target. It has to be in the beam to calibrate and moved out of the way to gather data. I use the VL53L0X range finder on hobby robots. I suspect that the principal of operation of the Time Of Flight, TOF, sensing is similar, even though they are otherwise different classes of device. Decades ago, I worked with laser trackers that did use two different lasers with different wavelengths. They were accurate to a wavelength of light. They didn't time how long it took the light to come back, they counted wavelengths. These things are "only" accurate to a millimeter or two. They modulate the beam going out and gate the light sensor on and off, then do a massive amount of statistics to figure how where the reflection is.
There are four pads on the top and the bottom of the PCB, shown in the last segment of the video- Does anyone know if these are TTL UART? And if so what pad is for what? I've google, can't find anything about this model, Google sent me to this video thou, so figure I'd ask.
You would have to use an oscilloscope to see if it's actually out putting anything on those pads but I suspect that they are testing pads for quality assurance at the factory
Thank you I just got mine and this video was very helpful. So far on this first job now that I know how to use all of the functions correctly. This thing is amazing. $35.99 well sent. - FYI there’s no such thing as an “Obama phone”. 🙄
Your title talks about the Harbor Freight Ames laser thinking you're going to give it overview and all you did was like trash it against the Bosch seriously the Bosch is way more expensive obviously it's going to be a better product, but then that was not why I was watching your video I wanted to learn more about the Ames not interested in the Bosch I've already looked at those. Your title should be comparing the Bosch to the aims if this is the kind of video you're going to put out
What?! Harbor Freight is great, even if it fails in a few years, you could buy a second product and still have spent less money than what you get from "real" tool shops

Good evening, I would like to know if this device calculates area.

And now that I got to the end of the video, I see you figured that out.
Question: does the measurement add in the 4 inches of the device behind the front of laser or do we add 4 inches to measurement?
yes and no. it's an option that gets toggled.

Thanks good video nice little tool
Thanks
Takes 2 Triple A batteries not Double A's
That's triple a batteries.
"Functionility..." Lol 😁

focus on price and accuracy.......&...
Obama phone 😂
Never buy Harbor Freight
