      Thanks Drew! Yeah, it totally has a similar vibe, and the chords are doing a similar modal interchange thing as well.

    if you like a challenge you should try playing a b minor7 arpeggio and a D major 7 arpeggio when the b minor is playing, for the f#m try playing an f# minor 7 arpeggio and a c# minor 7 arpeggio, for the E major try playing an E dominant 7 arpeggio and an A flat half diminished arpeggio. i cant really play that but am curios if you guys wana take a shot at it, your just playing the chord arpeggio along with its respective chord substition (i think thats right), good luck

    • @nowyoushred
      @nowyoushred  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      karim mekawey Hmmm, I might just combine your chord ideas like: Bm9, F#m9, E7sus... you might want to hit that B major too, I would use a B7 arpeggio.

    Is there any reason you don't give the name of the song? (Air, La Femme D'Argent, or Dogs, or Since I've been loving you, or Maggot Brain, etc.). I don't think there'd be a license problem and you'd probably get more visits.
    Big fan of yours,
    Darío

    • @nowyoushred
      @nowyoushred  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically it's copyright infringement when you use the name of the tune, even if you recorded it yourself and changed the harmony a little, the name itself is copyrighted. These videos do however fall under educational use, but there is no recourse with youtube against giant record companies - they'll just take the video down and give you a copyright strike, and after three - they erase your channel... trust me, I know all about it.

    • @dariorivas3579
      @dariorivas3579 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I see :/
      Then I'd suggest you put together a "Zappa's C#min pentatonic/C# dorian backing track that will make you crave for a Muffin". There are some around but not with your tips and arrangements!
      Cheers

    Can someone who understands theory tell me why playing B Aeolian works so well over this track? That would make the track in D Dorian even though the title says B Dorian. I have tried both ways and both seem to work. Or,.....am I just flat WRONG? LOL

    One thing that throws me off a bit, especially just beginning to learn theory, is the use of both the B maj, as well as B minor, theory wise that dosent make sense does it? I mean the key of B maj is B, C# ,D#, E , F# ,G#, and A#, but when you throw the B min in there doesent it blow the theory up? Now dont get me wrong, I love the way it blows it up!! lol This is an amazing spacey tune with air to breathe and I love it!! but being a new guy I had questions.

    • @nowyoushred
      @nowyoushred  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! Remember that music is harmony changing in time (aka, chords changing in time). you have to play notes that go with the harmony (the melody). It's totally ok if the harmony changes, even drastically. In fact, it happens in most music.

      I never thought of it that way before, I learn something new everyday. Great post, Thanks

      This is an old but gold modal interchange trick. you can hear it in green day's "wake me up when september ends" , oh when the aints go.., white christmas and some elvis song i forgot for example. The IV Chord is first played as Major as it is supposed to then as minor (iv) and then solutes to the Tonic. just modal intechange magic. and here on this progression its like you start on the IV (thats why it has that Lydian Vibe) and the go via the iv to the i. hope that makes sense. and holy shit, these backing tracks are good!!

    • @nowyoushred
      @nowyoushred  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man! And great explanation! I love that IV major to IV minor trick. I love the classic turnaround that goes I I7 IV IVm I V I
