Um... well... that anecdote he gave about the 1975 Suns actually happened in 1976. (They did not make the Playoffs in 1975.) And they were not an 8 seed, they were a 3 seed. In fact it would have been impossible for the Suns to be an 8 seed at that time, since only 5 teams from each conference played in the Playoffs back then.
Only two 8 seeds have ever made it to the Finals: the 1999 Knicks and the 2023 Heat. Riley should know this since he was part of both runs; Heat are the 1-seed that the Knicks upset on their way to the Finals.
I worry for his memory.

@@dontmindme4197 The problem with Beal is the no-trade clause. For the next 4 years, Beal would have full control of our cap. He's missed 121 games in the last 4 seasons and his stats have steadily decreased while he's maintained a top 5 usage.
Frankly, I wouldn't have wanted Beal even if it was just for Lowry and Dipo. That contract is beyond toxic and will get worse.
The Lillard contract isn't much better with him making 63M at age 36 in the 26/27 season but at least the team would have control and the ability to move it if need be.

Caleb, Max, Gabe, Kevin and Duncan have been really awesome this season. They are true Heat players. I love em. But Jimmy and Bam have a really good connection with Tyler. When those two aren't having a good game, they've got Tyler to go to. So Pat is right, we miss Tyler. Pat has made it clear for a couple of years now, Jimmy, Bam and Tyler are now the Heat's core. And this team will only get better, maybe this year we get a ring, or maybe next, but it's coming. In the 4 years that Pat built the team around Jimmy, Bam and Tyler, they've never missed the playoffs, got to 3 eastern conference finals. Won 2 ECFs. Got to 2 NBA Finals. No team has ever done that. Not the bucks, lakers, nuggets, warriors, celtics. Yes, no ring in those 4 years. But damn that's impressive

People quickly forget how great of a scorer herro is because he went out in game 1. Herro is 23 and will only (hopefully) become an elite scorer in this league. If he was on the floor for the Denver series heat would have scored well into the 100s and probably went 7 games.
My issues is our season was all luck no fucking way we go from 8th seed to finals again. The Celtics just got porzingis and only got rid of brogdon who actually was hurt during the Celtics heat series. He also has that soft side; When he talked about how UD provided him with a sense of comfort when his brother passed on March 9, 2020, you saw how he choked up discussing it. I will ride with the Godfather until the wheels fall off; Whatever decisions he makes, I'll remain a Heat lifer. I'm proud of the organization and the way they handle their business. I'm a Nuggets fan, but the Heat are one fabulous organization and they had one incredible season. How a team can have so much success as an 8th seed is truly a marvel. Who knows what Miami could have.done against the Joker with Tyler healthy. Great team, great coaches.

Hes happy because expectations were low. But the only reason expectations were low was because the season was so bad. Miami was in the ecf and finals in the last few years, they should make it back in theory. But no matter how you spin it, you only get so many opportunities at a championship, miami has blown a few chances now here. I dare say if it hasnt happened yet with this squad then it wont. The hope is to keep building and improve the squad cause it needs massive improvement
I don't know about massive, dude. We were 3 wins away from a championship with our leading scorer out all playoffs. A tweak or two, maybe add some size or more consistent scoring. But it would be foolish to blow a team up that was one missed shot away from 3 finals in 4 years.

I think Riley saying he's not taking a wrecking ball to this team means he isn't trading both bam and Tyler and all their picks for one player. Which is understandable. If he does trade for anyone it may be Tyler but I think that is as far as Riley will go.

Saw Caleb Martin plenty when he was still playing in college and at that time there wasn't a huge skill difference between him and his brother although maybe he was a notch or two better offensively. Kind of makes you wonder considering how successful the Heat have been developing Caleb that some NBA talent evaluator wakes up and realizes his brother could also potentially be developed into a similar type of player.
We are not taking a wrecking ball to a good team, probably a great team.
Subtle moves will be enough.
