  • We dedicate this video to Tom Nelson, who built these two tremendously beautiful and rare planes. The build was a masterpiece; the details are impeccable and realistic, and the video does not do justice. We want to thank Mrs. Paula Nelson for her kindness in providing us the opportunity to fly these beautiful planes.

My grandfather was a wonderful man with a passion beyond anyone's for flying and building planes. This video has really touched my heart. Thank you so much for doing this. I miss him terribly. I know he's looking down and smiling on you all. Thank you again for this. 💕

He was a great builder. Everyone at the airfield was admiring his work and the Fly Baby. We see very few planes with such details and care put into it. It is one of my favorite planes. It is beautiful.

Rebecca, I saw the white Ercoup yesterday Sept. 1, 2021, at Markham Park. The detail and care was more than impressive. If I had the room I would have offered to buy it. Would love to have a plane of this quality in my ‘hangar’. I also shared this video today with a fellow who was with me yesterday and offered to fund half of the purchase price. That says a lot! I am sure your grandfather was a wonderful person and someone you dearly miss. I can tell you from personally experience, memories last a lifetime and those who are gone will always be there and in your heart. Incidentally, I can tell you the current owner has a deep respect for your grandfather and also loves the plane. Take care.

I would hesitate to call a kit scratch built. To me scratch built is a pile of wood and a set of plans. A good kit from Sig or Balsa USA is about 50% done for you

And that’s exactly how he made them.Everything from scratch with a set of prints, his own hands, his own materials, his own tools, and all the painting and decals done by him personally. No pre built parts so please know your facts before you post something ignorant and disrespectful to try and sound like you’re somebody.thanks

The last time I looked at the kit from BalsaUS. It a box of wood and a plan. It was not 50% done at all.

@@rcchaser Then how do you account for all the die cutting, laser cutting, pre-cut hardwood etc etc etc? I've been building both kits and scratch builds for 50 years so please don't assume that I don't know what I'm talking about. The craftsmanship in the hobby now is deplorable. Not taking away from the skill of the builder, he did a good job but a kit is still a kit.

@@robertcovell2787 You are a rare bread of folks. We have a lot of respect for your skills. I, for one, don't possess such skills, (and time ) and that is why I admire folks who build from the "kits" or from "scratch". Thanks for clarifying the difference.
