Skip button should be the standard, there's no arguing it: it's an opt in feature, if you like the story, no one is forcing you to press it lol As for cutscenes and dynamic storytelling, people should want more for the games they keep defending tooth and nail, it's beyond me how they get defensive instead of being like "Yes give me more of the good stuff in this game I already enjoy"???
Issue with hsr is it is already adding new mechanics in their fights. We deal with it constantly when new units appear. The issue is dps is so high now the hp inflation is the only way these mobs can survive long enough to do them. Svarog fight is the perfect example of this in action. Svarog has older mechanics that are still strong with his grab and action delay. Previously people would just do so much damage neither of these mattered and he died before the mechanics could even come into play, but now he can survive long enough to ruin those low cycle clears because his mechanics actually happen, to add to it the cyber wolf also has its own CC to add to the difficulty.
Like I find it hilarious when Honkai Impact 3rd has more cutscenes and an in game VIEWING LIBRARY. Like we literally have proof of concept that it works. So I don't understand how Smack was in the wrong there.
Thats one the worst in terms of story for me in star rail, why cant we replay the cutscenes? i can do it in ZZ and GFL2, dont remember if wuwa has it, but even a hoyo game did it so its not impossible.
Honkai Impact 3rd makes animated shorts for boss battles and new Hersscher digivolution from the game story. While Star Rail animated shorts are actually part of the game story but not shown in the game cutscenes. Like Dan Heng fighting Dan Feng's illusion in the animated short "Ichor of Two Dragons". It takes place after Jingliu companion mission while Dan Heng is waiting for the Astral Express to pick him up after finishing the reunion meeting of High Cloud Quintet.
The game is way more focused on the story. You have a lot more chapters and you had 1 cutscene per chapter (except the 5s cutscenes) Hoyo's strategy is to make fewer cutscenes so it makes them more unique and special.
11:20 To be fair though, the only reason strategy doesn't exist in the game anymore is because the devs got greedy with selling chars that bypass the weakness bar. There is no reason we should have all these characters this early into the game's life with weakness implant, weakness ignore ults, and pen ignore shoved into their kits. At least with mono quantum it was balanced by the fact Quantum chars are flawed. SW is single target with energy issues, Seele's damage is low, QQ has to gamble sp to get an enhance, and Sparkle lacks a strong quantum dps to buff.
Let's use FeiXiao for example, Some solutions they can do is rather than just lazily increase the HP and punish all the other characters is: 1. Why not create a mob that is immune to Wind damge or heals if you hit them with it? Suddenly FeiXiao is not long as powerful and the devs don't have to worry about her high damage. 2. Why not create a mob that has Yunli's mechanics ultimately punishing follow up characters since they hit a lot. You can also make it where dot doesn't trigger the enemies follow up to add strategy. 3. We can also have an enemy that seals your ultimatel making hyper carry teams, Firefly, or Rappa useless while follow up and Dot strives. Like you don't need to just increase HP to keep character's high damage in check, there's plenty of ways I didn't list that you can add strategy.
I find it interesting when Volkin mentions that he had a lot of fun at the start of the game when one was not super strong with the recent characters. I do agree with him and curiously recently I have been reexperiencing that feeling while trying to improve older characters like Blade, Jingliu and Argenti with the new relics and try out other character synergies and beat the game's challenge modes.
@@stylerxo3654 Yeah unfortunately unless you have some other specific units it becomes difficult to perform well. Still one an manage decently in 2 out of 3 of the game modes.
Its counterintuitive tho since he mentioned that he had e2 firefly/e1 acheron and hes doesnt feel the challenge anymore and even if he start over with new account he start with feixiao and probably gonna pull other strong 5* so sooner or later he will repeat the same thing again

abt the hsr problem it just opened my mind. trying to continously building teams when the meta changes with all these new teams and getting absolutely rewarding in a specific niche to the degree that anything else feels sh1t is concerning. and it we don't know it might be even worse in 3.x. like if u don't have very polished account it's over. 11:10 Smack is right. You don't need to increase HP, you can lock the health bars to mechanics. I played the Romancing Saga 2 Remake and i think it blows every RPG on strategy and difficulty. The bosses forces you to focus on mechanics to avoid party wipes, the stage has elemental bonuses that affects your party and bosses and you can use it to do more damage, recover hp per turn or you can cleanse by using the opposing element to make the boss weaker. But we all know that gachas will never have this quality of gameplay because most of the players just autos and don't care about the quality of gameplay enough to make changes, they want an easy time so they can collect their virtual partners
GFL2 is like that You can use even the environment to your advantage and a lot of the four stars are really good. And the bosses are like that too where each of them have their own mechanics like they will hit your closest or farthest teammate
6:30 genshin never had a true hp inflation problem. To this date, you can still clear with full 4 stars with 1.x characters only. They use other methods to increase the difficulty. They actually do a really good job at it
The bros are back! And I think you should talk about different topics if you want to, I think most of the audience here probably listens from work or on their way to work, so most of us are probably very open to non-gacha topics.
adding new mobs with new mechanics, while simultaneously reworking older boss fights, is the best thing to do tbh!! Not by catering the content towards the new flashy characters but a more general approach to it. Example: the traffic light dudes could share the invulnerability buff with savorog and the explosive hands he spawns can merge to create a giga bomb. Then the prison hand he summons could have a bonus action that also debuffs the team in some way after casting hold person 🔥🤣 (+1 if u caught the reference)
This ones for Smack, just an idea for his main boi. They should make an Abundance that buffs the team, and when they take damage, a portion of that damage gets turned into team wide healing. Then Blade would be insane
I think the issue with strategy in HSR is that it boils down to get new/different character, there isnt much strategy to be had when the characters only have 3 buttons to press. Lets say they started putting bosses in MOC who have synergistic abilities, like the choir elite that requires you to hit him with each team member to spread out the damage + the luofu elite that marks your characters and stuns them whenever ANYONE on their team hits a marked character while spawning mobs that also have a chance to inflict that mark as well. To beat you'd either need to resist the CC (via a character), delay or CC the luofu elite (via a character), or kill the luofu elite faster (via a character), the strategic solution itself are just characters in other words, we'd just end up with a mix of both powercreep AND feature creep. Next thing you know we'd have a new moc with new mobs and new elites with new mechanics that we need to counter but oops only the new banner character has the feature that counters the new enemies. Unironically, simply increasing HP might be the least exclusive way to increase difficulty cuz all you have to do to make older units more relevant is release support units and new relic sets. Its the laziest way to increase difficulty 100%, and its the least fun way to do it 100%, but i think that's the trade off Now that said, if i were hoyo what i would unironically do is just increase F2P gems so we enable players to get the new characters with the new features and mechanics, maybe introduce good 4 stars that also have those as well, maybe include the new mechanics into relic sets or lightcones so characters that dont have it have a way to access it, and then release FUCKING CHARACTER SKINS and make up the profit loss from increasing F2P gems THAT way. Aint no way these multi billion dollar companies with their armada's of player psychology teams, marketing strategy teams etc , can't come up with other ways to make money, its not as if they have to find a way to completely replace the profits from the gacha system, just whatever is lost from making gems accessible enough to at least pull 1 character every patch. If you wanted to pull a LC you'd still have to save a ton or spend a bit, same with eidolons, and whales are gonna whale anyway. ALSO with the increased number of characters that players have access to comes a need for more resources, that might push more players towards the paid battle pass, and if they up the value on it, higher spenders and CC's might opt for the higher tier version of the paid season pass. There's a lot they CAN do, they just have no incentive or passion to do it, or maybe the corpos/shareholders won't let them idfk
As a car salesman dipshit- I will be talking to my manager about this XDD Jokes aside, the only reason I go back and forth is because we're asking for like a 3000 plus discount. If we're like 500 to 1K, we can probably make something work, but if it's more than that, They need to decide with the owners of the store if they're willing to lose money on the deal. Sometimes they are, sometimes they're not, but thats not a call I can make. I'm just happy you're sitting in the seat giving us the chance to try instead of walking out immediately. I love how about HSR you have Smack who keeps moving the goal post to fit what ever narrative he wants. ignoring Volkin destroying his argument and just moving saying im ONLY talking about MOC when you cant talk about only one part of the ENTIRE endgame when MOC isnt the only endgame in HSR. also does PVP even happen anymore, i never see any videos for it anymore lol
I was about to go in Smack's livestream and say do we gotta wait until Monster Hunter comes out before Gacha Mates can air again and then Volkin finished the upload.
To the point of end game hp flood or super complex mechanics; true they all do eventually have to do something. I have seen it worse in the main game I play where they overcomplicated mechanics to compensate and made huge health pools on top of that. Dev learned and did a great job balancing the complexity side with still a huge hp pool but less than it could be. Skill always takes the W. The wuwa thing is worse if you play only mobile like me lmao no controller too! It’s not good to put it lightly. You both do a great job love it all!
I do not think HP inflation is the problem, it’s the result of the actual problem which are the character’s kits. If you look at new character kits at a baseline, they are ridiculous. Sunday for example: he gives crit rate, crit damage, energy, damage bonus boost, advance forward, and advance forward for summons; and this is not counting relics and lightcones. I do agree that it is lazy to go the HP inflation route, having enemies with puzzle like mechanics should be the direction HSR needs to go, like the robot monkey and Aventurine boss.
With Volkin discussing why some folks get mad when their games get critiqued, it boils down to sunk cost fallacy and tribalism. I sure would like for gamers to just play the games they like without picking fights at strangers online, but i guess that's just how us humans are.
GFL2 really surprised me. Gacha games in general don't really stick with me, besides Nikke. GFL2 is pretty much the only gacha game where it feels fun to actually play the game and not autoplay everything, and on top of the fact that it's f2p friendly is really a plus for me.
That's why he said to put strategy in the game instead of the hp inflation. They could implement what they did with HI3 with the "weather system" where a boss would take less X elemental dmg and take more X elemental dmg. Or maybe they could do something like the boss takes more skill dmg and less ultimate dmg or something that's more extreme is to make them immune to ultimate dmg altogether. HI3 already have bosses that are immune to elemental dmg so it's something that Hoyo are definitely comfortable doing. This would make old characters "viable" and stop everyone from just brute forcing with just 1 team. It would also force players to diversify their teams which is good for old players but bad for new players. Another thing is that it will introduce more fomo which I know Hoyo loves where people will always want to pull the new character so it benefits them too at the end of the day. It's definitely debatable whether or not this is a good idea but at the very least it puts more strategy into the game. This is just one idea though. I'm sure someone else could come up with some other brilliant idea on what they could do to put more strategy into the game.
@@azimtv7419@azimtv7419 that could cause more backlash for example if a boss is immune to ultimate damage like you said then Acheron, Argenti and Yunli mains will undoubtedly complain and say its pay2win. Endgame is always a diffiult subject to handle since everyone doesnt know what they want. If its too hard they will complain and if its too easy they will also complain
@@therion451 yeah Ik which is why I said it's not a perfect idea. An idea I could think of to solve the problem you mentioned would be to make the boss immune to ult dmg while not broken so at least it's not immune all the time. They could find a middle ground where certain characters are not useless but you are discouraged from using them. The people who wants to complain will complain either way. We had people complaining about MoC ever since floor 11-12 was added and powercreep was no where near as bad as it is today back then.
I dont know how yall missed the obvious reason as to why people dont wanna hear their gacha game sucks. its money and time investment as well as shame. you tell me league sucks im gonna sigh and say yea it does even though I’ve spent so many hours. you tell me HSR sucks im gonna feel shame for spending hundreds of dollars on a shit game. Its also the way people spend money, a lot of people dont wanna spend the money they end up spending.
Also to the point of only expecting so much enjoyment out of the same game, i raise you this: Warframe. Those mfs have 50+ different units and counting, all farmable in game and purchasable using a premium currency, premium currency farmable in game through trading, HOURS of quality story and story telling, an extensive and rich library of cosmetics and customization for those cosmetics, a mix of instanced battle zones and open battle zones with a variety of battle formats. and also F2P. Gacha Devs are just lazy and uninspired, the entire gacha model does not need to exist.
A game is good, taking bad things about A game, A game having bad impression in the public, A game making less money, not rewarding A game for being good, A game decide stop being good. Or just feel unfair, people hates unfairness. That's probably why they're mad when seeing others criticising. I don't agree with them from the first sentence, just to explain.
On GFL2 story, while I like the premise and what Smack mentions about the protagonist having a personality and not being op as fuck, I have to say that so far the story is kind of a letdown for me. While there are some cutscenes, and I appreciate that, I feel like there's waaaaay to much yapping. They do the same shit like almost every other gacha of writing two paragraphs full of technical jargon to say something that could be just two sentences. The pacing is pretty bad, I hope the main story starts to be more deliberate with the dialogs and begin applying the 'show, don't tell' writing strategy to move it forward, because I'm vibing very hard with the scrappy bounty hunter thematic. PS: Gacha should take a look at Nikke's story, that's another game that comes off as coomer bait but the story is actually good and the pacing is great. So far, Nikke has the best story+story telling combination of any gacha game, it might not be a 10 out of 10 but it gets close in both, which is important. Just whish the gameplay was better tho xD.
ok volkin you like the challenge in hsr , so why don't try doing 0 or 1 cycles with your account I would loved to watch that, back in the days i really enjoyed your qq runs
26:40 Netease doesn't just abandon games out of nowhere, unless the game is either has gone to the point of unprofitable so they shut it down, or if the game has no hype, expectation so they cancel the project, it's just simple logic. While Netease has many other banger IP like Naraka, Identity V, and the least Marvel Rivals all still doing fantastically. We don't even need to say how much hype Ananta has gathered for Netease to treat this game carefully. That comment from Smack is either he has no idea what he talking about, or he just got the bag from NTE to say that.
I'll admit I don't know much about netease and their practices, but a quick google search tells me its more complicated that what you say. Most of what I see is that they simply mismanage the game (like not dealing hackers, having bad security problems), not marketing properly, simply abandoning the game right after release, or completely milking the product. I've heard that they do this mostly for the global releases (not the chinese ones) that they simply publish and dont have any involovement with the actual devs (unlike Ananta). Also, why would NTE pay him to say that on a random podcast???

@@therion451Where's the backlash for the immune bosses in genshin's spiral abyss? That backlash is practically none existent
Also to the point of only expecting so much enjoyment out of the same game, i raise you this:
Warframe.
A game is good,
taking bad things about A game,
A game having bad impression in the public,
A game making less money,
not rewarding A game for being good,
A game decide stop being good.
Or just feel unfair, people hates unfairness.
That's probably why they're mad when seeing others criticising. I don't agree with them from the first sentence, just to explain.
The intro is staright up insult om 😂
missed this
On GFL2 story, while I like the premise and what Smack mentions about the protagonist having a personality and not being op as fuck, I have to say that so far the story is kind of a letdown for me.
Man I miss the Gacha mates
Also, why would NTE pay him to say that on a random podcast???
gfl2 is the first time i have flat out whaled. but the strat of the fights lets the game take a long time to play, you can auto, you can skip, but one match can take 20 minutes and its not boring.
Frontline 2 has been phenomenal so far. Extreeeemely fun! I don't know anything about the first game, but Neural Cloud was (is) one of the best gacha games in terms of gameplay period, and then Frontline 2 continues that.
I do wish Neural Cloud got more love. There's literally zero guides on youtube, even in chinese or any other language

1st!
How has no gatcha creators spoken about Destiny Rising. It is legitimately good, but I've only seen Destiny creators cover the alpha
Trailers are there to create hype, no?
missed the entire point of the discussion
