    I’m 3 months on to snake keeping and you have helped a bunch! I appreciate your personality and teaching approach. Great job

    I agree with Ryan, I’m about 6 months in and have 3 balls and you’ve been a tremendous help down to the smallest details that people overlook and don’t tell you. I feel like an expert now and my husbandry is impeccable. Keep it my friend. The good bad and ugly you share it all. I love it.

    I had mites and used paper towel but to dry . I switched to carbon pup pads and they worked well . When the snake pees it soaked all up and no smell . When you spill the water closing the tub it seem to release some and keep the humidity up better than towel . I switched back to coco it seems the best . I did get some cheeper pup pads without carbon but haven't tried them .

    I also live in Colorado and the place where I bought my ball Python recommended reptisoil. I find that on the hot side of the tank, where the water evaporates quicker, it gets super dusty and when I drag my hand through the substrate mixing in water, I get splinters from the dry reptisoil. I’m not sure how comfortable that is for my snake, I believe there are small pieces of wood in this reptisoil. Would I have the same problem with coconut husks? I also have a humidifier going in my room almost 24/7

    I keep my coconut husk substrate in a tub in the garage. I live in Wisconsin, so the cold temperatures take care of any gnats or other hitchhikers in the substrate.

      Put your substrate in the freezer for a while. Everything dies

    Good evening sir,
    When you feed the Ball Pythons their dinner, if they don't take it do you leave it there over night till the morning to see if it's gone by then or do you throw it out immediately?

    How about a video on how you pack up the snakes when you head to a show what it takes to get them all there safe.

    Cypress chips are inexpensive and hold humidity well. Never had a problem with mold so far!

    Can you add water to aspen? I live in a more temperate climate and for at least half of the year I’m getting enough natural humidity to keep my ball python’a enclosure up without having to add water to the substrate. For the winters/when we are running the heat the humidity has been too low. But can you add water to aspen? I know it’s not the ideal substrate for that but it would be more for a temporary fix. Also Can you use a mostly dry coconut husk? I’d love to find a substrate that is flexible since it can vary so much here!

      Ya ditch the Aspen, it molds quick

    • @paulbyfield540
      @paulbyfield540 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try a larger water bowl. I have Aspen in my tubs and spot clean it if they get it wet. I have perfect humidity in my snake room with the tubs so I don't have the issue with low humidty. I have always hated Aspen but anything else will raise the humidity. I do have 5 bio set ups as well and that helps with the humidity as those set ups are in a different room with lower humidity. Try the larger water bowl and see if that helps.

    Can I use sphagnum moss as a substrate

    • @jase123111
      @jase123111 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes... but you should mix it in with another substrate for best results.. and not use it on its own.
