The Hudson was manufactured from 1909 until 1954. When I was 5 my father, mother, and myself drove to Detroit, Michigan just before WWII to pick up a new '40 or '41 at the Hudson factory. It was the only new car my dad purchased during his 96 year lifetime. He got it in his favorite color, maroon.

Our family had a red Hudson Hornet - 6 cylinders which was strong enough to pull an Airstream trailer up and down the Rockies.

.....You can find Moose McGregor on the internet. He was a pastry chef known (to tourists and locals) for his apple strudel. He loved the isolation and the incredible views of the stars at night. He passed away in Solitaire after experiencing shortness of breath while his friends tried to get him to the hospital.....

Virtually all of those cars & pick-ups are U$ American.
RH drive versions were exported to Argentina (now LHD),
    Southern Afrika, Australia, & NZ,
    Not that unusual, honestly.

What an interesting video in Namibia with old American rust bucket vehicles. Makes the Hussy feel right back at home.
About old Moose McGregor. He ran a bakery there in Solitaire and was know for his German apple crumble. He had some
trouble breathing on a fine Saturday afternoon so medics were called but too late as he passed away.

Hudson was definitely an American made car they merged with American Motors in 1954. Also, the first car @1:55 shows it had an insignia similar to a Chevrolet. Fordson was a tractor brand name built by Henry Ford & Son in the late 1910's.

Vehicles in order. Some are impossible to tell without grills but others are pretty straight forward. Virtually all are USA vehicles but some have subtle differences that makes me think they were made in non US factories(Australia?)
    1956 Ford Pickup
    1939 Hudson 112
    1930ish Fordson tractor
    1958ish Ford Zephyr
1959 Ford Pickup (not USA made, Australia maybe?)
    1950ish Chevrolet 1-2ton Truck
    1952 Ford 1-2ton Truck
    1960-70ish Mercedes Benz
    1920's Ford Model T
    1935ish Morris Minor 8

Fordson was a brand name of tractors and trucks.
It was used on a range of mass-produced general-purpose tractors
manufactured by Henry Ford & Son Inc from 1917 to 1920,
    by Ford Motor Company (U.S.)
and Ford Motor Company Ltd (U.K.) from 1920 to 1928,
and by Ford Motor Company Ltd (U.K.) from 1929 to 1964.
The latter (Ford of Britain) also later built trucks under the Fordson brand.

The 55 Ford truck, International truck and Hudson were American cars that were manufactured for import to England or it's territories which most of S Africa was at one time. Considering that Britain has right hand drive, that's what all cars imported to (or manufactured in) had installed.

The right hand drive pick up that's deep in the sand, with the big dent in the hood, is a very cool American truck, Its a 1956 Ford F100, very popular with the custom car people in America, One of the most recognizable vehicles ever. Lots of the cars in this video were American cars built for foreign markets.

Hudson was a US car maker. Hudson cars were shipped to South Africa as CKDs, Complete Knock Down. Basically, they arrived as all the parts in crates, to be assembled into a finished car, at a factory, that needed little in equipment.

Doug Alexander Cars is one of the best movies ever made.
"Sally: Forty years ago, that interstate down there didn't exist.
      Lightning McQueen: Really?
Sally: Yeah. Back then, cars came across the country a whole different way.
Lightning McQueen: How do you mean?
Sally: Well, the road didn't cut through the land like that interstate. It moved with the land, it rose, it fell, it curved. Cars didn't drive on it to make great time. They drove on it to have a great time."

Most American cars were also made in right hand drive for or in export markets. One of the smaller cars is a Zephyr which is a European Ford model. The Morris 8 is made by Morris Garage an English company known for Morris Minors and MG's. MG is the short version of Morris Garage. The Chevrolet truck is a 6 cylinder with 12 rocker arms, 6 spark plug holes. The other trucks are mostly Ford. The round fendered blue truck is a mid 50's Ford, The pickup with the square bed and more squarish fenders is a late 50 early Ford. The one you read Ford on the front of is a 48-52 style truck.

Hudsons were NASCAR stock car champions in the early 1950s. My dad drove them for that very reason. He owned a tan 1951 and later a blue 1954, the first year of the "step-down" design. Basically that means the floor wasn't level. You stepped down a few inches because the floor was lowered. Supposedly to make the car handle better in the NASCAR races.

Fordsons were the origin of the present configuration of tractors, I believe the engineer responsible was Irish, several different types of American cars were built under licence in Europe as the post war industries struggled to get back on their feet, all European manufacturers built many of there models for RHD for the Irish, British and Swedish market, Sweden has since gone LHD, I expect commercial pressure will eventually change the few survivors, another great video, thanks... pity you never found a hot spring :D

Namibia was a German colony until after WW1, when it came under South African rule until independence in 1990.
Most of the trucks are American. The Ford Zephyr saloon (sedan) is a Mk 2, built in Dagenham, England, between 1956 & 1962. The other British RHD saloon is BMC "Farina", probably an Austin A60 Cambridge or a Morris Oxford, built in the 1960s. The Morris Eight Tourer is a series 1, built between 1934 & 1938.

So interesting to read the backstory of people like Percy Cross ‘Moose’ McGregor, a Scottish adventurer, winding up in the middle of nowhere in Namibia. Seems the desert has a mysterious grip on our psyche. Take past characters like Marta Becket, Scotty, Carl Mengel, Seldom Seen Slim, Larry, you, me and so many others. So I can see how moose fell in love with the desert. And I’m sure his apple strudel was the bomb-diggitty but I think it might of been personality over pie that won people over

The white car just before the truck that you identified as a 12 cylinder vehicle I believe is a Studebaker early 50s model. All of the cars that you were looking at where the property of Moose McGregor. He obtained many of the vehicles when they were abandoned in the sands. The information I posted is from a number of sources including many vague newspaper articles under the name of Piercy Cross.

The name Fordson was derived from Henry Ford & Sons . It was used in the U.S. market from 1917 to 1920 on general purpose tractors and trucks and by Ford Motor Company until 1928 in the United States. And from 1920 to 1964 by FoMoCo in the UK . Ford's corporate umbrella changed several times over those years in the U.K. which is why I simplified the name here. American trucks and tractors from 1920 to 1928 were usually badged for sale as Ford but because of factory contracts the company operated as Fordson until then. Some American built tractors from that period were badged as Fordson for export to Canada. It's a safe bet that those Ford trucks you saw were built and imported from Great Britain . The straight 12 motor in that truck was actually a 6 cylinder . There are 2 valves for each cylinder . The Hudson was interesting because it was probably built in the United States and built right hand drive for export . As far as I know Hudson didn't build factories outside of America . But my historical knowledge of Hudson is kinda limited.

More great stuff. Hudsons were big in the '40's and 50's, even very fast at Nascar Daytona! Morris Eight from Morris Garage in England. Zephyr is also an English Car model . Shaft Drive BMW Bike. Lots of US vehicles exported with right-hand drive. That Blue Chevy '50's pickup. That oldest one near the end was a 6 cylinder. 12 Rocker Arms. Great over view of Solitaire. Thanks.

The 1 ton flat bed is a 1935 Chevrolet with a rare 207 OHV engine . The car with stubby fins I think is Russian. The convertible I want to say Morgan but the knock offs suggest Audi . The Fordson tractor came from Ireland. The Fords from South America The prize is the Hudson ….. WHY ? Where else are you going to take them ?

Agree. Rear disc brake, too. I think Honda had the first production bike with F&R discs in the mid 70s. This isn't a Honda, though.

    RIP MOOSE MCGREGOR (28/10/2014 - 18/01/2014)
Percy Cross McGregor (a.k.a Moose), the iconic pastry chef of the Namib Desert, died this past Saturday afternoon in Solitaire.
Moose’s friends and family mourn the passing of a man who put the the small settlment of Solitaire on the map, by providing his world famous German apple crumble (Apfelstrudel) to weary travellers filling up their fuel tanks.
The fame of Moose, and his apple crumble, ensured that anyone visiting the south of Namibia made a mandatory stop at the Solitaire petrol station, not only to fill up on petrol but on the sweet treat too. It is well known that even those with full petrol tanks, stopped simply to get a taste of something freshly baked from the bakery pit-stop.

After WWII most car industries collapsed. Therefore Ford and GM, often through their foreign divisions. Were everywhere.
