    Love treacle tart, especially with custard. A different type of treacle tart I bake swaps out the bread crumbs for cornflakes. Yummmmmmm!!! It was a favourite school dinners dessert here in Wales, well for me at least, 🙄🙄and one I make several times a year, especially in winter. Again served with custard or, occasionally, ice cream. No good if you are on a diet but we all need a treat now and then.

    Gemma, my grandmother swears by using room temperature fat in her pastry and we don't get bad results. In fact we get a great crust. I'm not sure how or why, but neither my grandma nor I ever use cold fat

    • @biggerbolderbaking
      @biggerbolderbaking  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      That can also work, for as long as the proportion between fat and flour is correct. Some recipes use oil instead of butter in scones.

    oh gemma you take this older man back to school in england. treacle tart was one of the more popular school lunch desserts in the 50's and 60's. mum always made it with tate and lyalls. when we moved to nz it never tasted the same and to be honest i havent had it for 50 years. maybe my waistline and can afford to give it a try again lol. people if you have never tried this and think it sounds weird, give it a try they are very tasty with either custard or icecream.

    I can't bake and I dislike trying because I'm such a perfectionist and if something, 1 little thing, doesn't seem or go right, I give up instantly 😞🙈 BUT. BUT. I've noticed the few videos I've watched on this channel so far, everything is so straightforward and uncomplicated, even a 5 y/o could follow instructions and not mess it up 🥺🤭 So I want to try to make this pie the end of the month when I have money again lol 😊 (also, why has no other foodtuber on here ever said a person could use SUGAR! SUGAR!, to blind bake a pie crust!!?? This is the first I hear this!!😢😅)

    A 2 to 1 ratio of butter to flour for the pastry seems like a massive amount of butter. In the UK, a traditional shortcrust pastry is made with half the fat to flour ratio.

      The sugar starts to brown (caramelize) after its been used a few times as a pie weight. It's great sprinkled on top of sugar cookies and pie crusts. The repeated baking doesn't hurt the sugar at all.

It’s a thick, caramel-colored syrup and often used in recipes where you would use corn syrup. A substitute can be made easily at home using just 3 ingredients.
