As someone from the USA I taught myself most of the geography I know I'm really good at geography especially compared to the average American. What I've seen is schools don't teach much geography in America and are more focused on U.S history, math, and just about any form of science whether that be Chemistry, Biology, Earth Science etc.
I currently live in the U.S. I found out that world geography is an OPTIONAL HIGH SCHOOL COURSE…. I am in 7th grade and have take up geography in my spare time recently. I can currently name and place the countries in Africa and South America. I can name Most in the Oceania region along with North America (including Central America), Europe, and a bit of Asia! I started learning last summer, so pretty good for 6 months I think :D

A lot of it can be deducted from simply knowing history (except for africa, cause it was all colonized and after they got independence they all got some random-ass country names lol)

still in school and I know a decent amount of countries but, one time we took a countries quiz and I was the only one who knew what France looked like. I was very disappointed.
It would've been more fair to have a quiz where you name the countries you see instead of having to choose the right one from 4 answers :/
