She sang "The Boy I Love Is Up In The Gallery" at Kenneth Williams' funeral. There weren't many dry eyes after that.

Barbara was the opposite of her Carry On characters. A very clever lady who went to grammar school. This half talking half singing is harder than it looks!

Who better to portray Marie Lloyd than the Cockney Sparrow herself, , Barbara Windsor, who scored a huge success in the Ned Sherrin and Caryl Brahms musical on the life of the star, ''Sing a Rude Song''.in 1970. Those of us who saw it will remember her explosive huge personality bringing the story to life. In her own autobiography, before the days of Eastenders , Barbara thought it was the best work she had ever done. She made an LP of Music Hall , with Leonard Sachs who 'christened' her, 'The Girl with the movable mezzanine' - and you can see it here! Great theatre, thank you for this upload, a tribute to her and to Music Hall with possibly its most well known song, 'My Old Man said Follow the Van'.

Barbara isn't actually a cockney although she depicts one well enough.

I didn't see the 'Sing a rude song' show from 1970 because it was too young at the time and not living in England. Luckily I have the record. It must have been fun as a performance that didn't had a big resonance according to the music press. I have a few pictures of the show unfortunately very few left. I collect but difficult to find if someone could help me. Thank you
