  • The Grand Reunion of 1888, held on the 25th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, was hailed as a time of reunion and reconciliation. It would also prove to be the first real meeting of many Union and Confederate veterans, Daniel Sickles, Henry Slocum, Joshua Chamberlain, James Longstreet and John B. Gordon among them. All these former enemies joined together in feelings of brotherhood and pride in the accomplishments of a reunited nation. Join Ranger Karlton Smith and explore the events, interactions, and episodes of this important moment in Gettysburg history.

The 1888 Gettysburg reunion was a true result of the healing of our country. No more north or south, we are all Americans bound by the events in the past later honored as the glory of memories. If I could travel back in time I would have greatly wished to be at this reunion, even just to view the events and the veterans.

In glad I never picked up on that accent because it really sounds lazy. It still makes me feel ashamed hearing it, lol. Smith doesn't have that accent but it's somewhat similar. Please explain how pushing your division a half a mile out of position to form a defensive line a "spoiling attack"? I do understand his rationale, considering his Chancellorsville experience, but he's damned lucky that the terrain on his left flank was so rugged, that Warren and Vincent were on the ball, and that Meade and Hancock responded appropriately. All's well that ends well, so they say, but a less politically savvy general would've been hung out to dry.
