Just fix what’s wrong with it, then enjoy it. Take the Austin and make it what you can dream up. The Ford is way too nice to cut up. I mean look at the front end ! What a great grill !

Well, there are the chops he did on the Hudson and the Gen-Two T-Bird that made both of them look better. I wouldn't mind it on this one with Rear fender skirts. I am hardcore on originality. I know what engines are supposed to go with, in what and I get mad at someone that drops a Chevy Anchor engine into a bay where it shouldn't go.

Stretch the Austin. That's something that not too many people will do. Make a bus out of it and rent it out for weddings.
Leave the Ford alone it's a survivor.

Chad, fix the body damage on the 38 and have yourself an exotic daily driver. Do whatever you want with the Austin it can only get better than what it is right now. Great run and drive on the 38! No smoke no gear whine she's a keeper!

Agghh , that Ford is just too nice to chop up , I would love to see it repaired , tidied up nice as original as possible , lowered a little and made into a cool daily driver. The Austin is always going to look better with anything done to it lol.

Hey Chad, keep the Ford As Is, fix the back and get the chrome trim that you left behind on the damaged lid at the seller's place. The Austin, as somebody mentioned earlier, cut it length wise in half and fit it on a modern frame.

Hi Chad, Jolene, Doug, & Fina, how are you doing? Chad I know that leaving things alone is not what you normally do but, the more I think about it the more I think just repairing the damage is the best direction on the Ford. You do collect things as well and in my opinion this car will have some value once it is repaired and might be worth keeping as an original antique not to mention that you seemed to be having a lot of fun driving it and it is a good looking car. I would prefer to see you do whatever is in your head to the Austin. What I really want and I believe a lot of others as well is to watch you continue on Jolene's Bugatti, if you need to seperate the body again now is the time to do it before it snows. Doug it will be great seeing the three of you work as a team together on a project. Jolene thank you for taking us for a ride today and great video as always! Fina seemed to enjoy the ride and the attention from you. I will be back tomorrow to see Team Hiltz in action!

Its gorgeous "AS IS"! This is quite the find - getting harder and harder to come across oldies in this condition. As a car community we should start promoting which ones to SAVE and which ones would be more for chopping & redesigning fun. Really diggin' this one! You & Jolene are so lucky. 👍

    @alancollett5566 ปีที่แล้ว +15

I'm thinking you may want to put a hold on the ford for now, because it drives so nice and would need minimal repairs, it might be something to keep as is, would be fun as a coffee runner as an example, the Austin on the other hand needs a lot of work, but customizing is a lot of work anyway, and because it doesn't run think it would be easier to decide on what to do as it needs pretty much everything, would be a fun gasser like you once mentioned, whatever you decide it's guaranteed to be cool, creative and a fun watch, thanks again for sharing! CHEERS!

  • @mattjanzen86

My votes would be... 38 Ford - fix the back, painted, then wipe boiled linseed oil over the whole car to give it a uniform look. Take the Austin, work your hot rod design magic on it and call it a Austin Hiltz rather than a Austin Healey (custom lettered on each side of the hood and back). The hauler is looking great!

  • @nwalker231
    @nwalker231 ปีที่แล้ว +7

I vote to fix the trunk and back of the 38 and leave it like that. I love the way the windshield cranks open and the how the side windows open to vent then go down, I think chopping it would lose those features. You could make the Austin awesome.
Also I like the 'whiskers' on the Bugatti Hauler...they look more like whiskers than eyelashes to me. 🙂

I would leave the 38 Ford as is. Cutting it up will only hurt its value in the long run. Only fix up whats needed and have Nathan give it a good tune up. Be a very nice driver and grocery getter. The Austin I would give the roof a haircut and customize it to look more unique unto itself. Think it would be a more interesting project. So many more things you can do to customize it. Yes hot rod the Austin the windows make that Ford the front works and it has the weird wing windows and it runs and drives good Austin didn't. Cost any thing so any money you put in just makes it worth more if you fixed the Ford you could double your money as soon as it was done or keep it and drive it but I agree with others paint it real nice no brush do a good paint job

I would fix the damage on the rear of the Ford and try to match the patina. The Austin would make a reallt cool street rod. I would chop it and other custom ideas and put a small block Chevy in from your all ready owned engines. It would look great on a build between a gasser and a street rod. Great job on filming Jolene as always. You will always be the Queen of the closeups Hello to you all and to the star of the show Fina. Love ya girl. Bill

WOW does that flat head sound nice. You know what we all know you can cut up a car and put it back together. Some of your designs are of the eccentric they come out incredible. It would be nice to see you take a car like this one to a full restore without being chopped up. It doesn’t have to b of show quality. A restore you can take out even make a daily driver. You can build cool ass customs. How about a simple proper restore.

Thanks for the drive in the Ford Jolene did a great job of videoing from the back seat so we got a real feel of the car and the scenery. And knowing what direction you might take the Austin you would have many options. And that would be because it needs more like you could put in a different engine change body shape, interior, and the list goes on and on. My choice would be the Austin but it's up to you Chad your the boss😎

I had four door38, great car except the cable operated brakes, in a panic stop situation the harder you pushed on the brake pedal the more cable stretch you got and the less stopping power you got.

I realize it not what you do, but I would like to see the Doodle Bug, Bugatti & T-Bird finished. If you have the budget for another person to complete those 3 it would give your audience closure. ....Knowing you(??????) I would not change the 38 Ford's style. That would only leave minimal metal work for you to do and there will be another car just hanging around forever. WITH THAT SAID, I WOULD GO WITH THE AUSTIN since you are a terrific fabricator.
Just make sure your NEW AUDIENCE knows your only going as far as the metal fabrication so they won't be disappointed when the interior is NOT completed or out side NOT painted.

Things I'd do to the 38. Repair the rear, slam it. Maybe French the taillights. Bring the bumpers in a little tighter by shortening the brackets. Make skirts for the rear. I wouldn't chop it simply because the original glass and how the mechanicals in the glass work. Faux patina the repaired rear deck and skirts. Use sweet patina or something rubbed onto the paint work. (Don't clear it).

I get it that it's personal preference. Chopping a car that is as complete as this one is, while there are lots of old parts cars or body off frame cars around, would be unfortunate. If it were a coupe and not a sedan, I would still have trouble taking a sawzall to it, but a chopping a coupe would make more sense. Ultimately, the old adage, " just because you can does not mean you should apply here for me at least.

Almost sounds like a valve sticking some, or could be just a plug fouled

I wouldn't customize it Chad. That's just too nice to customize.
I had a buddy that would turn the key off while rollin' along and fill up the muffler with gasoline fumes. Turn the key back on and KABOOM! After about a dozen times, he blew the muffler right off it!

I think Chad has already made up his mind to modify the Ford and has an idea of what he would like to do. What ever you decide I’ll be watching.

My opinion I believe is leave the Ford as is except for the trunk lid...and park her in the garage and have fun driving it as is...but the Austin..I would make it a winter project...go crazy on it...not goin to hurt it at all...hotrod the Austin..big motor...hell...tub it...use your imagination...Fina enjoyed the ride..haa...hauler looks good..like the accents...breaks it up a bit..makes it look better and it fits the rest of the hauler..looks good Chad and Doug and Queen jolene the film 🎥 master...cya tomorrow 😊

38 Ford ! Modify and customize ! Let's do it ! It is Bad Chad's garage after all ! OK let's give it a hair cut ? How about some fins ? Definitely new white walls ! Let's see how it will go . Jolene ❤ you decide for us it's to nice to chop it but it would be more desirable if you do . Thumbs-up guys I'd chop it and Modify and customize it if it was mine but alas it's not and in the end it's Chad's and your decision to make !

Repairing the damage is a breeze. If the car was not restorable then redesign it as you want. But the 38 is just to good to cut up. My first car was a 38 Ford Deluxe. Paid $40 dollars for it, added new tires another $40 and drove it. It had a gas heater that would throw about as much heat as a candle would. That was changed as soon as it got cold. North Dakota winters can be kind of rough. Later rebuilt the motor with the supervision on my dad. I was 13 years old. Back then farm kids could get a drivers license early because they had to help on the farm. They called it a farm to market license, but no one ever asked us where we were going as long as we behaved. If the 38 were mine I would fix it and drive it as is.

Chad, you're a great car guy, and you've created some awesome cars. Why not do something different and do a quick and relaxing build by working on the '38 Ford for awhile. It's in great shape already and can be a nice daily driver. Fix the trunk lid, add the bump out on the lid for the spare tire, and clean up all the odds and ends. Bring in an upholstery guy and redo the interior. Polish the interior wood trim. Show us how you do it. I sense it's time for a completed car with paint, don't you agree? Looking forward to seeing that. Take care.🙂

Take the Austin , put a S10 rear end in it with some ladder bars , buy a speed way gasser front end kit , put a nasty small block Chevy in it , only fix bottoms of car , run patina paint , no chop of roof , gloss clear it , would be cool 👍👍👍😬😬😬😬

Just do the rear repairs on the Ford and leave it at that. As I was looking at the Austin from the view from garage door, I thought Oh yeah, COVERTIBLE!!! A little car like that would be such a sweet convertible and that would make for a really intersting 'chop' as to how you brace it all without a hard roof. Please do that! :)

The 38 needs repairs to the rear with similar patina. It's too good to change from original.
    NIIICE CAR!!!!!
It deserves to survive as beautiful and humble as it shows!!
The Austin is screaming for a new lease on life!!
    My humble opinion guys.🙄😉❤

This is one of the best designs for a car ever made. (This is also a personal favorite of my Father's.) There is only one of two things you should ever do with a car that is this good since it is running. Nothing or a Frame-off full restoration. There is a third option but only with certain cars, (And this is one of them.) and only if you bought it as a rolling shell for a project. That is to put brand new everything on it. BUT, you also have to put the CORRECT running gear into it. And in this case, it would either be Brand New Ford Motor Company everything or full MOPAR to do it properly.

50 years ago, this would probably be no topic of discussion, but by now...
There's only so many originals left - and in this condition... I'd leave it the way it is. She's a beauty!
