- The interior has all been stripped and dismantled now it's time to cut the entire roof off. The vision for this build is to turn it into a roadster with a carson top. But just like always... the plan could change as we get into it.
It's been decided... we're going to customize the 1938 Ford. We were torn on whether we should leave it be since it's a true original survivor that runs, drives, and stops.

1938 Ford 2 door with original seats, headliner, stopping, running, and driving, with all the glass and body panels. How many do you think are left in the world? This could be the last one. Something to think about. I think it could be on the endangered old car list. Bill

Maybe you should tune out and watch resto shows, this is a custom show and cars will be cut up and given another life, better than rusting away in a paddock somewhere
Chad is always paying attention to the small details and is particular how and when things are done. His mind is always busy thinking. Nathan and Douge are also very talented. They all work together and get along great. Couple that with Jolene's expert camera work, it's almost like being there in person. Great job everyone!👍👍

Chad, take a breath and get back on the Bugatti, then the T-Bird, then the hauler, then the Hudson, the Plymouth etc...love the Ford, but there's lots of other stuff to be done before that one👌

I must have OCD. There is no way I'd be able to have half finished projects laying all over the place and just start on a new one constantly. I don't know how they do it.

Chad is welding the doors going to do any good , because there will be nothing supporting body with roof off. Won't you need to reinforce the bottom like they do on convertibles? Curious?
Chads new name is "Chops." He will take a $12,000.00 antique car and chop it and cut it up and after he is done it is a $5000.00 dollar antique car. If it is worth that much.😅
Everything in this world is not about money! Enjoying the things you have in life are more important in my opinion. I personally would enjoy being able to see the open skies above me while driving down the road 🤷🏻

Yes, its an 85 year old car but its made of steel & paint & they still make that stuff. Theres enough craftsman around to undo what anyone does to any car. If it was one of on 5 remaining in the world...still wouldn't matter, still his car, his plan, his choice.

That’s terrible to destroy a great looking car, but Chad has destroyed others so doesn’t surprise me one bit. Wish he would find junk jalopies to modify and leave the original classics alone. That 38 should have been a driver as is, just needed to paint the trunk lid on it
I keep tuning in to see a project get finished and going down the road but apart from the race car and hauler ( which was a running truck ) I havent seen one finished in years

Ok people, this is for the people who always complain about bad Chad always chopping cars and not restoring cars, etc. etc. etc. ! Why should bad Chad do what makes you happy when what makes him happy is customizing and building old cars. I don’t think it’s fair for people to rip on Chad because he does what makes him happy. Maybe you people need to NOT be so selfish and enjoy what he is good enough to share with us viewers !! I don’t get it, either you’re jealous or your life is so miserable that you want to make his life miserable. I myself love watching Chad do his magic no matter what it is, because it always turns out so freaking amazing. Now let’s quit on the hating !!!!

( Nathan ).....I lowered one of these a few years back and as it come down the wheel went forward in the wheel well and looked out of place.
Just a heads up when you are working the springs over keep this in mind .

Jolene when you edit the videos there is a way to turn the volume down when Chad is grinding etc. I think it would make things nicer. I don't know what it's called but I know other utubers use it.... it's just agitating to hafta turn the volume down and then back up again....

The passenger door was damaged when the rear end was smashed in. It made the smaller gap.

People posting the negative comments, there's still plenty of 38 Fords out there. The front half of this car is pretty but the back half is butt ugly. Chad will make it something beautiful

Shudder at the demolition of a 'vintage classic' sometimes. But, always becomes ..."Wow...that looks pretty amazing". I'm sure Henry Ford would be thinking the same at end of reconstruction.

Hi Chad. Just a suggestion. You could use pieces of tape to get your distance right on the passenger side of the car. Run a piece of tape from the top of the side and run down to the rear fender curve. Do this three or four times at intervals, and then use those pieces to run from the bottom of the tape line on the other side. Then you can adjust that tape line for the next cut if needed. - best of luck with the project - Fred
It's easy to start a big project, finishing it is a whole different animal.
I didn't see anyone whining when Bello's Kustoms crafted a LaSalle grille and a LaSalle bumper on the front of his 36 Ford....Likely because it is also a work of art

Maybe consider adding a extra rail along side the chassis for strength

Thanks, it was my idea to build it into a vertable. 38 convertables are scarce from the get go, Chad can get er done.
It's not as if he's cutting up a GT-40 or a Hemi 'Cuda. Customizers have been modifying cars since there have been cars to modify. Guys like Gene Winfield, Chip Foose, Ian Roussell and countless others have made amazing careers for themselves doing the sane thing this trio is doing.
I too believe in saving automotive history, but ....
He's not crushing it, burning it, or pushing it off of a cliff somewhere.
I do not like custom cars or fender-skirts.
BUT ... the Terraplane was Absolute GENIUS!

Since the loss of the top caused the body to move that nuch, and since you will not be adding any structure to reinforce the door area, may I suggest that you add additional frame structure to support the body better??
He is an artist. That is why I enjoy Bad Chad. He is welcome to do what he wants. Likewise, I am allowed to say what I like. He is cool and I am a supporter.

I know it is Chad's vision , his Art, his car....and without all that we would not all be here....BUT....I did shed a little tear as the interior came out and the top came off 😪. I was sad when the TerraPlane was cut down but in the end it was still a TerraPlane....not sure yet on the Greased Lightning Look🤔
my dad and his friends used to build Modifieds (from 37 Chevys)in our home garage. Like Chad, Doug and Nate they spent most of the time talking and joking with each other. They got a lot done and had fun with each other.

what a weird society we live in. people want to save old houses, old cars, old dishrags old garbage bags wake up. how often do you go to a museum? not often enough to pay for keeping this old stuff around. GO Chad. make something desirable from this old classic. the spirit of the car will still be there, just in a new form the owner can enjoy. cut baby cut!!
Hi Chad, Jolene, Doug, Nate, & Fina, I hope everyone is doing well today! Chad you guys have made alot of progress on it the last two days. Doug, Nate, and you make a good team there is quite a bit of skill between the three of you. I may have given my opinion to not modify it but, I have no reason to be mad that you did. After all it is your car not mine and I am sure it will be nice when you are done with it. Jolene great camera work and video as always you are the best at it. Say hi to Fina for me she is such a sweetheart!

Well! It was a nice original 38 Ford, but I can't condemn you for wanting to make it your own. Just my thoughts, but still think a small bench seat for the back, just big enough for a small child to set. Would offset a long piece of sheetmetal. Have a good idea to where your heading with it and I'm sure it'll be a head turner, either way. Waiting for tomorrow's video.

LOL this is really a fun build. Once again Nathan makes a ref to another movie- "More room for activities" - and then Chad describes the mini-van and that reminded me of the '75 Lincoln in Gator where Bones has his head out of the sunroof while he's driving. I guess I watch too many movies LOL!

To all viewers, we all knew Chad was cutting up this car anyway, It was me that suggested a convertable, 38 rag tops are rare, worth the effort to build from a common 2 door, more bang for the buck. Change is good. He,ll get a truck load for this one.
Wow - Doug hears the mention of a needed tool and he's off for it - what an intuitive mind and helper. P.S. When possible, more enjoyable watching a group build - it goes so much faster than Chad having to spend the time walking for and looking for tools. Understand one has to work with what one has but just saying. Interesting endeavor.

Should have "taps" playing as you mutilated this beautiful old car. Didn't even have the respect to reinforce the structure before destroying it.
I think a small visor would look good above that front window. If you need to keep some of the height for the wipers and hinges. I think a visor would help make it look not as bulky.
Great Idea, a visor could be used strategically to hide some of the original roof that cant be removed because of wipers and such. good thinkin grasshopper

Yeah, once your hearing is gone, you can't get it back. I know I tried with tympanoplasty surgery. I cringed the whole time!
I worked in a v.a hospital for years, his hearing is going, i can guarantee you that, from a guy with hearing aids, plus no damn eye protection also

I'd have loved to have seen this one returned on the road as a surviving original patina car with minimal repairs and enjoyed by an appreciative collector. But... since it's a customisation channel, and Chad's always talking about building something nobody has ever done, why not cut out the floor, weld all the windows and doors shut, flip it upside down, hang an outboard motor on the back and call it a boat? 🥴

Sorry guys but I'm disappointed you cut that car 😢up. If it was more of a wreck I would've understood that,but being in such good condition and with so few around now in good nick it's a shame. I know I know it's your car but it's a shame. A little top chop I would understand and go for,and convertibles are nice,but it's not a convertible no matter what you do to it,it'll just be a 38 Tudor with no roof,in all respect
Like Chad always says, screw what y'all say about him & chopping up this classic. I think this is a fabulous idear & is gonna look fricken badass. Shoulda came from the factory like this & I know Henry Ford won't be disappointed whatsoever & if he was still here, he would hire Chad. I mean he built a fricken $20 mil Bugatti for his queen Jolene!! And now a badass hauler that started with just a chassis. The dude is a genius and a very talented fabricator folks. He deserves all the credit & the dude definitely knows what he's doing. Great job Nathan and Doug. This is gonna be a very cool badass build.
