Yep, I love them growing up in Brazil. I've got a tree in CA and last year had over 80+ fruit. This year 0😂.
I just eat as a fruit. My mother in law makes cookies. Either way fantastic fruit.
Foyu is the best IMO but you really have to wait until they are soft and red like a tomato.

Persimmon is a fruit. There are 2 kinds of persimmons that I know of. The one you showed is like an apple (it is good when it's firm to the touch but not too sweet). You eat it as you would normally eat an apple. The other kind of persimmon is a little bit bigger than the one you showed (and felt so soft to the touch). It's best to eat when it's fully ripe but it's too sweet though. This kind of persimmon is usually used for baking.

Persimmons are a great fruit. My mom grows them in her backyard. You can slice and eat them just the way they are. You can also chop it up and put it in your salad. It has a sweet taste to it. I have seen some people cut it up and put butter and cinnamon on it and cook for a little and put it in ice cream. My favorite way is cutting it up and eating it and putting in salads.

I have a Fuyu persimmon tree and we love the fruits. You can eat it when it's still crunchy just like an apple. Great in salads. When it's all soft, you can put it in kefir, yogurt, yumm! When I have too many, I slice them up and dehydrate them after marinating them in lemon juice and ginger! Lastly, for the really ripened soft fruits, I slow cook them on the stove with a bit of water, ginger, spices. It becomes like a chutney. I store the chutney in a jar and enjoy it throughout winter! It's a really special fruit!

I have never tried or cooked with persimmons but I do use the seeds to predict the winter. if you cut a persimmon seed open and there is a knife shape that means it's going to be frigid stabbing cold. Spoon shape means there's going to be lots of snow. Fork shaped means slightly mild winter.

The Fuyu persimmons you eat like an apple or add to a salad or create a persimmon salad. The Hachiya persimmons you have to allow to ripen until soft and can be eaten when ripe (don't eat green, you will have your tongue feeling weird) create a puree (freeze for future use). Very sweet & an interesting fall spice kinda flavor and great for baking. I always make persimmon cookies for my family when in season. Enjoy and hope this helps.

Bobby - I must thank you for introducing me to Laird Coffee Creamer! I had seen it at Costco before and ignored it - why?! I've been trying to reduce my dairy intake while on keto and haven't found a good creamy alternative to whipping cream added to coffee until this! I put 8 grams in my coffee and froth with an immersion blender every morning (only one cup though because it's 4 grams of carbs for the original) and it is amazing! I love it! Now that I know unsweetened exists I will be ordering that later on! I love your channel and appreciate you sharing your knowledge and advice! Cheers!

Persimmons are a great fall fruit that my family and I look forward to. I simply peel and eat them. The texture is like an apple, but sweeter and no tartness. You can easily use it to bake desserts and warm, autumn spices compliment them. Also, you can slice them on a mandolin and dehydrate them for a chewy, sweet snack. FYI - Trader Joe's sometimes carries dried persimmon slices.

Ooh and persimmons are popular among Asians and Italian. It taste like an apple/pear/pumpkin. You can just peel it up and eat it like a regular fruit. The more ripped it is, the sweeter the fruit is with a very unique taste. What I don’t like is how Costco package it in that plastic concoction when it’s not necessary. If they packet it in those green avocado net, it would have been fine.

  • @lorettacali10370

There are two completely different persimmons. Don't get them confused!
You were holding Fuyu Persimmons. Eat them hard like an apple like it was suggested. I never peel them. Have a hint of cinnamon. Yummy and crunchy. Treat it like an apple.
The other one is shaped like a large tear drop. Called Hachiya. HAS TO BE SOFT, ALMOST MUSHY. If it's not like mush, your mouth with pucker!! But when it's ripe, I spoon out the inside and eat it like an amazing puddingish dessert. Don't get them confused. Eat Fuyu HARD (or it can also be a little soft)
Eat Hachiya SOFT ONLY. (Usually find at special stores or a neighbor with a tree because they don't transport well)
My family loves them! High in vitamins A and B and fiber.

Hi Bobby. Persimmons are a favourite fruit of mine. The variety you showed is the Fuyu. It is my favourite. Texture wise it is like a cross between an apple, a yam, and a tomato. Very unique, and very sweet . You have to be careful, the other variety which is more apple shaped, than flat, has to be eaten ripe or else it leaves a yucky feeling in your mouth. I prefer to eat the Fuyu when is a little hard. I like the texture more crisp. Thanks for your amazing content. I have learned so much from you!

Eat them raw like a sliced apple, make a salsa out of them, use them like a crudites with cheese or a dip, add to salads, make a jam, make a bread. They are really pretty as well. Just be sure they are ripe or they can be very astringent.

persimmons: The Fuyu variety shown can be cut and eaten raw. Once softer, can be used in any baking (cakes, cookies) to have a very tender and yummy spice cake/cookie textures. Stellar added to english type steamed puddings. Can be dehydrated for a wonderful chewy dried fruit (a Japanese treat!). Can canned into a jelly/jam; or! Cook with cranberries for a wonderful side dish for turkey or spread for turkey sandwiches.

In Japan, they dry/dehydrate persimmons. They become super sweet like a raisin once you do this

Persimmons are one of my favorite fruits to just eat. I personally like to peel the skin before I eat it. I prefer it when it's still crunchy. Sometimes I like baking with it in a muffin or pie.

Those persimmons are good for eating like an apple. They taste really good and are very dense, more than an apple. I had a client who had a tree and brought them to me every year and I gorged on them.

I am so sad that Costco in Clearwater FL doesn’t carry half of the stuff as in this video. Since I started watching your videos, I have started incorporating lots of healthy choices you have suggested. My husband always gives me look when I bring some new items like that Lairds coffee cream with functional mushrooms. He was like “ what a heck is this?”😂

Eat Persimmons as fruit. It’s delicious and sweet. You can eat when they are firm and crunchy or when they turn soft and juicy. We have wild king salmons at our Costco in Issaquah WA.

Persimmon, you eat it as fruit. There are 2 types: crispy and soft. That shape will be crispy and the longer shape will be soft. If it's not sweet then its not ready to eat. Peel off the skin before you eat.

You can eat persimmon as a fruit but I like it when it’s ripe. It takes a long time but in Korea they peel and air dry them for a while then the outside is chewy and inside is soft and sweet. There’s a juicier kind of persimmon that you can wait till it’s super ripe then freeze it just until it becomes like sorbet. That’s very good too

I love Japanese FUYU Persimmons before they are VERY SWEET and firm to eat. They are fruits! All you have to do is to peal off the skins and eat them while they are firm. We have a FUYU fruit tree in our backyard and it’s given LOTS of persimmons. There are other kind of persimmons out there in the market but they have to be fully ripe, i.e. soft to almost mushy, before you can eat them.

    Hey Bobby,
Since you asked, we often have Wild King Salmon in the Costco in Issaquah, Redmond and others around Seattle during the winter months. Those and fresh Alaskan King Crabs are my go-to splurge options during the holidays. Unfortunately we still don't have the A5 Wagyu; been checking every week.

My mother’s father was English and they lived in NC where I also live and they had a persimmon tree in their yard. As a young girl she told me how he would have her make a persimmon pudding ! I googled it and there are recipes. I kind of remember something she told me either she made it so often that they got sick of having it and/or it could be very tart! Fun to remember that story for me!

Hi Bobby! We normally just eat the persimmons as fruit. At least that’s the only way I have grown up eaten it. They are delicious! There are actually two types of persimmons, one of them is the hard type like the one in Costco and the other one is different shape and they are extremely soft.

Big fan here. Have to comment on the persimmon: live in TX, my Costco always has persimmon in fall/winter season. What Costco has is the only kind persimmon you can eat as apple ( I always peel off the skin ), sweet and crispy. The other kind persimmons you have to wait until they are fully ripe, but the texture would be super soft and sweet for me. Btw, dried persimmon is also super delicious.
