I've been fixing so many friends small engine machines lately I think I've decided to start a business, I have all the tools and know how. What's the best way to start branching out getting customers? I was thinking of starting with a fbook page and getting business cards out there.. what do you think?

I've been in the business for over 20 years.
My repair service is exclusively on site at the customers home.
I have found it to be a very rewarding and profitable business if you're willing to put in the work.

Commercial loggers and tree trimmers will never use exclusively battery powered saws and trimmers.

My son and i just opened a shop yesterday and had our first customer today via a Google search. We both have " day" jobs and are going to spin wrenches in the evenings and Saturdays. We're the only shop within 20 miles from here ( south central Montana). If it takes off, I'll quit driving truck ( been driving 37 years) and wrench full-time.

I've been doing a little of both. I'd like to be more mobile but I always seem to find more wrong with a mower than the customer thought and have to order parts. I could see driving back 2-3 times. Seems this would be an issue since I don't do but 5-10 jobs a week up to 20 minutes away. I charge 65 per hour and 65 for pick up and drop off 1 time not each

I have been fired from an Ace Hardware where i ran and managed a Stihl "Silver certified" department along with small engine service. The reason i got fired is the owner could not afford to pay me. I am on my own now, but business is very bad. I live in a small town and people that i know that have done this for years have seen their business lose by 47%. And this is in northwestern Pa.

Had a guy like that today, got a nice John Deere rider given to him and it wouldn't stay running. He changed the spark plug, gas filter, air filter, oil change and gave up. Called us and said " I don't care what it costs, can you fix it, I don't know what else to do" about an hour of different diagnostics, 3' of new fuel line ( old one collapsed inside) and he is a very happy customer. 😁

wow I stumbled across this video and it's exactly what I'm grappling with at the moment. I live in a small mountain town in southern Utah there only being a couple small engine repair businesses here that are months out. I've been getting and flipping a few mowers getting my tools stacked up and getting experience. my question to you is what paperwork did you file to officially notify the IRS and how do you give them their cut this is the one thing that has me unsure. I appreciate the info!
