3:35. That’s not your air/ fuel mixture screw that’s your float bowl drain “plug” screw. Don’t try and adjust that. It’s for emptying the float bowl. Mixture screw is UNDERNEATH the float bowl and points down towards the ground and you have to either use a small “wheel ratchet” type screwdriver - or loosen the flexi hose clips and turn the carb to get to it.
@Lovetoeat no prob bro Pretty much. You can access the jets by removing the seat tank and throttle cables, then spinning the carb so u can access the float cover screws on the bottom. Remove it and the jets are inside Or just pay A reputable shop
Had the cutting out problem at high speeds (on highway or just when I open it right up) for over a year now... I'm no mechanic and nobody here seems to know what they are doing. I have my idle set high ( don't know what rpm) and I just bought the extendable air fuel mixture screw so I can adjust by hand. Will have to play around with it... Litteraly the only problem my bike has had since I bought it... Does also blip blip type of backfiring but nothing to bad. Really wish there were decent mechanics in cambodia 😳😳
Looks like that is the same problem my bike has. Came brand new with a massive idle problem. If you turn off the choke the bike instantly dies it idles so slow. A buddy tried to ride it and he had to ramp up the rpms so high to be able to keep the bike running. I'll try your fix and see if it helps. I'm just amazed a dealer would send it out the door like that. Just too far from a city to run back for a stupid problem like that.
My bike is a stock 05 SM. All my friends were popping their bikes on 2nd gear at low rpm and my bike just was struggling. I raised up the idle a bit and magic. Lol thanks bro
My bike was doing the same thing. Turned out to be the tiny screw that sits on the needle in the diaphragm of the carb. Super easy to check, just take off the top of the carb and pull the diaphragm out and make sure everything is in place. My screw had popped out of place and was just floating around the top of the carb.
My drz is also idling super low after a few mods and it's idling super low, almost dies at stop lights even after warming up. I'm gonna try and adjust this idle adjust.
Hey man, thanks for the video! My DRZ has been idling super high. I don’t even need to give it throttle in first gear and it goes 15mph. 🙄 and my throttle isn’t sticking. Can’t wait to try adjusting the throttle tomorrow!
My idle screw is not in the same spot as that and I have a fcr carb. I also installed an rpm gauge and its always at 1670ish, and I still have blips in my throttle. Like a small twist of throttle though and also it cut out on me the other day at a red light. Should I lower the rpm ??
bro so happy i watched this.. I had a new chiming chain replaced on my DRZ and the shop didn't even test run my bike after.. i rev it at a stop and dies.. cant wait, going now to adjust
So the white plastic flathead thing is the idle screw? My bike cuts out when I hit the throttle but only when it's cold, if I use the choke it eliminates the cut out altogether.
My drz started doing the same thing so I changed the spark plug and boy did it help. You should try that if you haven't changed it since you bought the bike.
Same exact issue, but new spark plug didnt help at all. Messing with idle screw is helping a bit, havnt found the right setting yet. Pilot Jets could be dirty too.
fronjm05 I had the same problem, turns out the little screw in the diaphragm of the carb had popped off and was just sitting on the diaphragm. Definitely should give that a look.
awesome, keep studying, enjoy the drz. I'm cleaning the carb, ugh, and lordy, if all I needed to do was tweak the idle I'll be kicking myself, but still, afterwards I'll be smiling and singing in my helmet, LOL>
Thanks, man. I got a brand new DRZ a few days ago and mine does the *same thing* when I blip the throttle. Couldn’t find an answer anywhere bc every forum is talking about old ass bikes. So they were talking about gunk in the carb. I also don’t know what 1,600rpm sounds like of the top of my head, so using your vid as a reference, I got it to stop!
Had the same problem with my DRZ bro. I adjusted the idol and it was fine. It still hogs out sometimes but I just keep adjusting the idol and then it’s fine for the rest of the ride.
Please tell me where you got the black bar clamps for the fatty haha. Thank you for the vid. My bike has the exact same issue I’m about to go outside now and try it
I would be following the mechanics advise..... i.e. idle air screw needs to be set richer not your idle needs to go higher, its kind of like fixing something but not really fixing it... grinding off the diaphragm is from the pumper not the air vacuum diaphragm,,,, not sure how he got that mixed up.... if you look up Eddie Mod on thumpertalk there is info on the mod to get better acceleration off idle by activating the pump earlier/longer......
Josh Worrall I’ve kept it at 1300 to 1500 for the past 5 months and it’s just not enough. Maybe I could do more tweaking but 1600-1700 isn’t staggerjng
SoCal Moto see i know it says 1700 in the workshop manual but i run about 1300 ( flat cr 39 carb, rejetted, airbox mod, arrow exhaust) and mines quite even, 1700 for me sounds really high, but mines running really even, i do still need to take it to all be set off correctly though so 🤷♂️
@@josh20109 same.. if your idle ever starts to hang a little and comes down slow try dropping it to like 1800.. we probably have the same setup lol & 1900 is about the top of where mine idles without hanging

The bike will only do what you make it do and go as fast as you tell it to . With a sensible head and the correct license there's no reason that you can't go for a liter bike if you want . Just don't ride outwith your own abilities

Thanks great help on my 2005 DRZ 400SM, from Scotland UK, due to Euro emissions we no longer have this bike available from 2009 onwards,
Thanks from down under. New to bikes. Helped me out.
i love the yellow such a sick color scheme. i just got a 2018 a couple months ago. appreciate the helpful vids!

Same my bike won’t pop in second gear very well lol. I’ll try raising the idle a tad

Why's he grinding the accelerator pump nipple?
The second I have a conversation like that with a “technician” it’s the last time. If that were a thing…everyone would know about it.
Another great video.....keep em coming bro!

Here to break it to you m8, the chain has nothing to do with the idle

Hey where you at in so cal? I cant find any other supermoto riders around me

Taison Dal Col just iMovie. Nothing too fancy, other than the MacBook to run it lol

DRZ400 eaither old or new have never changed :) but if the bike don't have a rev counter then finding out what 1600rpm is can be hard
Same problem I had too, bro great video

What is an "idol"?
My bad. Lol idle* I was high af watching this earlier.
hi ! how to know exactly the RPM ? there's no tachometer on that bike
He has an aftermarket speedo. If you’re on the stock one, I guess just go by sound
Great video! Keep em coming
My drz accelerate only 3000-4000 rpm and Max speed 80-90 klm/h and the half throttle to end is dead, why?
So you re jetted with the 3x3 mod?
Which tail bag do you have and how did you fit it?
I have drz 125 coolant elbow problems how to fix
Thanks that worked great for my bike as well

Get yourself a flex R&D mixture screw. If your bike bogs it’s rich if it hangs it’s lean
How do you know what your rpm’s are ?
Just some Motovlog action of the DRZ in its natural habitat.
PS. I finally got a few motovlogs out on my DRZ. Love that bike!!!
My drz is doing the same, dies when I rev.... I'm definitely gonna play with it... thx bro
bro did that fix it?
Are you still running it at 1700
Low or high it seems
Thanks bro I think this solved my problem too 👌👍👍👍
Still no trouble with that loud MRD?
Tattoo Junk you get used to it lol. Sometimes my ears are ringing a little after a ride but it’s not too excessive most of the time. It sounds amazing
Ah I forgot, Suzuki still makes the carbureted bikes instead of the fuel injection.
How’d you know where your rpm was without a gauge ??
Michel Bakhos listen, you will know when its just about right
Did that manual come with your bike? If not, where did you buy it?
MastercheefRyu bought it second hand on Craigslist. You can find some there, on eBay, even amazon.
Great Video! Get that education first, TH-cam will be here when you're done with school
