「 Mageddone 」 There are fully colored versions but they aren’t done by Araki himself and they generally keep the colors consistent for each character rather than varying depending on the image.
xolotltolox If you’re referring to the digital color versions, they are official but they aren’t done by Araki. There have been various instances throughout all of JJBA where he does color pages though (which unfortunately aren’t included in most volume releases of the series, although the recent hardcovers have them and IIRC most of them are included in the digital color releases for Parts 7 and 8 [although weirdly the earlier parts mostly didn’t include them and instead recolored the scene to match the main palette they chose]) and each time he does that he tends to choose different palettes for the characters (compare for instance the first few pages of SBR Chapter 28 and 95, both of which were colored by Araki, the characters have completely different palettes in each). I don’t mean that each panel necessarily has its own palette or something like that, rather that each page or sequence of pages generally has a separately decided palette, in case that was unclear. I should note actually that Araki has done a few works in full color, specifically “Rohan at the Louvre” and his collaborations with Gucci.
I am glad that you covered Moebius. My older friend was a huge fan of his work in Heavy Metal magazine. At the time (mid 80s) I didn't really appreciate it. Since then, I have come to REALLY appreciate his work and have seen how he has influenced other artists with his style. I think you did a really good job of pointing out how some of his techniques are subtle, yet have a subconscious impact when looking at the panels. He did this in multiple ways. One of the first comic related posters that I bought to hang on my wall as a teen was Moebius's Iron Man. I never even read Iron Man and was a DC fan but I just really liked the illustrative style and use of the limited color pallet that also influenced me as an art student.
That character that looks like angel is called mimic, he's a dude who can mimic the original x-men's powers (hence the optic blasts), you don't really need to know him, he's kind of useless

Moebius' stuff is just satifying to look at. It's detailed, simply, chaotic and so perfectly organised. It has this Francobelgian comic feel that is just so nice.
Oh, I love David Yardin’s art. But everyone can have an off day or panel. Glad you were able to provide so much behind the scene information and side by side comparison between initial release and later version.

nathan poole I’ve commented Sui Ishida on some but I’ve commented Atsushi Ohkubo (which I wonder if he will like the art or not since soul eater is so abstract) and Tite Kubo (Bleach)

I hear Ava’s Demon is cool... my mind is going blank right now on other stuff but the thing about webcomics is that the level of quality is all over the place.
You should react to Jhonen Vasquez! If you don't already know, he's the creator of Invader Zim, as well as several comics like Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, I Feel Sick (spin-off of Jthm), Squee (another spin-off), and others. He has a really unique style that I honestly take after a lot, with things like extremely thin bodies and large eyes that pop out of the head. It's a pretty weird style, but it's honestly really good (despite the fact that he literally has a book called the Bad Art Collection lmao).
Kind of like, in "Death In The Family", when he tried to punch Superman and Superman told him "if I hadn't have rolled with that punch you would've crippled yourself".
Would love to see you do some James Stokoe art. I think he's one of the most underrated guys out there. Shades of Moebius and classic cartoons, insane detail. His panel layouts have always been super awesome. I still go back and read Orc Stain occasionally.
Good inspiration. As a Hendrix fan looking for some wall art but being sick to death of the standard obvious Hendrix photo posters I feel like this Moebius cliff painting make some great wall art.
11:43 That's Mimic or Cal if you want to call him by his regular name. If I'm not mistaken he can use up to five different mutants powers at once. His usual power set is that of the OG X-Men given that he's spent the most time with them and knows their powers the best.
Dave Gibbons’ work on Watchmen. Arguably some of the best and most iconic comic art of all time; combining realistic anatomy with comic book simplicity (plus some of the best colouring ever)
18:07 He uses double light glares in the eyes in order make us hesitant on where to focus our eyes. Just like they did in "The silence of the lambs" in the mask scene with Hannibal Lecter. They lit him from two sides in order to create two light reflections in his eyes with creates a really eerie effect. :)
Just realized I didn’t have the bell on! Anyway, look at some Ethan van Sciver artwork, especially his green lantern and flash work. His splash pages are second to none!
in case you wanted to know how deep the Jean Giraud / Moebius influence is - he was there when Jodorowsky was prepping to do his doomed Dune movies, he created the spacesuits for Alien, the tron suits and environments for Tron (some of which were done by Syd Mead, but Giraud is all over them). His DNA is interspersed with so much of our sci-fi pop culture, it's amazing.
A great example of the use of panels is the Spanish comic 13, Rue del Percebe by Francisco Ibáñez. It is always shown multiple short stories & puns from the same perspective of the same building. The viewer is the one who choose the order of the panels.
I love you to do an episode dedicated to other Heavy Metal/Metal Hurlant artists (i.e.Enki Bilal, Tanino Liberatore, Richard Corben, Marco Turini, etc.)
Love this series, and this episode is done so so well! Thank you also for highlighting the artists as best as possible, and also discussing reasons for any possible "bad" art. Also, you mention "archangel" on one cool page layout, but you were confused by his eyebeam. This is because it isn't archangel, bit rather the character "Mimic". Mimic has the ability to copy any power or skill from anyone or any mutant close to him.
With the Injustice Batman image, even just knowing (from the updated image) that it's meant to be closed eyes with tears coming out rather than open eyes looking down made the whole thing read a lot better.
You should have a look at chris ware, tradd Moore and some of Bruno Redondo's work on the new nightwing run (i think issue 87 is the one were its one continuous thing like the moon night example in this video)
Please review the artwork for the comic The Wicked + The Divine. Its artwork was what inspired me to begin drawing with how eye catching and gorgeous it is
Chris! Would you consider doing animal combinations? For example I’ve done an art piece of a monster that had the torso, head and arms of a gorilla, and bottom half of a snake. People had called it a “gorillaconda”! Haha. I’d LOVE to see what your rendition would look like!
I highly recommend checking out Jock's work. He's done everything from horror series like Wytches to Batman comics like The Batman Who Laughs and The Black Mirror! His art has a really gothic nature to it!
You should talk about Masamune Shirow's Art in Appleseed Book 4: particularly the knife fight between Deunan and a group of terrorists in a collapsing building and the gunfight leading to it. It's masterfully planned and executed both spatially and in the illusion of movement.
I would love to see you react to Atsushi Ohkubo's artwork. He's the creator of the Soul Eater and fire force mangas. He has a unique style that I could only describe as: quirky but twisted.
I wonder, looking at the confusing layout, what would be your point of view on sort of free reading order, a.k.a., panelling for things that are happening at the same time (so you can read it in any order you want) without being forced to follow a specific pattern. I can only come up with this spiderweb-like structure, but I'm sure there are more of these.
Manga can sometimes be really bad about page layout and what panel you are supposed to read next cause they love doing crazy layouts that take up half a page or more.
If you like that first image you showed from "Seconds" you should take a look at Spanish artist Francisco Ibañez series "13, Rue del Percebe". Basically, the whole comic series is the concept of that image. Every page shows a building with the front wall missing and you can see what happens inside the different apartments, with one gag happening in each single apartment. The idea is brilliant and it's a lot of fun.
A lot of two page comic layouts are confusing to read. Some do well, but a lot seem to be a collage that you have to read a panel to see if that’s where you’re supposed to be reading.
I've seen everyone of "illustrator reacts" and I've really enjoyed every episode and I gotta say that there are 2 artists that I really wanna hear your opinion on. 1 is an artist I find one of the most euneack today which is Jhonen Vasquez. And one of my personal favorites who doesn't do comic art per say but is extremely beautiful "nogi san" (I have no idea what her full name is) keep up the good work man!
Clayton Crain, check out his Rai series or his Ghost Rider: Trails of Tears or his Venom/Carnage series. He does all the art himself. He starts with almost a black image and works up with lighter and lighter contrast.
I just started reading Copra volume 3 and need an artist's reaction to the work and oeuvre of Michel Fiffe. I have so much to say, but I'll wait until the conversation has begun.
I just got a Locke & Key comic and felt exactly like you about character design in there. But I also feel proud of Rodriguez being Chilean myself too. He's way better at buildings, perspective, etc, I guess because was an architect before he jumped into illustration and comics.

Waited for this! Enjoyed and learned a lot! :D
Really enjoy this series. Keep em coming
I'd love if you talked about Yoshitaka Amano's art. One of my absolute favorites!
Can you look at some of Javier Saltares art? His work on 1990 Ghost Rider is epic.
Hiya! One of my favorite artists is Stuart Immonen, especially when it comes to his work on Nextwave. Maybe give him a review?
I would love to see you react to Atsushi Ohkubo's artwork. He's the creator of the Soul Eater and fire force mangas.
He has a unique style that I could only describe as: quirky but twisted.
I think the hollow pupils on those eyes makes them look so odd. We're used to seeing pupils as "black holes". Interesting!
🤩🤩IT'S MY LUCKY DAY THAT I FOUND THIS CHANNEL..THANK YOU MAN AND...YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY 🤩🤩🤩
Yessss!! Been waiting for this!! Thanks Dad!
Frank Quitely's All-Star Superman work was like one big Moebius tribute
I wonder, looking at the confusing layout, what would be your point of view on sort of free reading order, a.k.a., panelling for things that are happening at the same time (so you can read it in any order you want) without being forced to follow a specific pattern. I can only come up with this spiderweb-like structure, but I'm sure there are more of these.
Manga can sometimes be really bad about page layout and what panel you are supposed to read next cause they love doing crazy layouts that take up half a page or more.
A few requests I'd love to see you talk about: Dustin Nguyen, James Stokoe, and Hiroaki Samura.
Is it me or does the top left dude at 18:16 look like a stylized version of popcross?
I've seen everyone of "illustrator reacts" and I've really enjoyed every episode and I gotta say that there are 2 artists that I really wanna hear your opinion on. 1 is an artist I find one of the most euneack today which is Jhonen Vasquez. And one of my personal favorites who doesn't do comic art per say but is extremely beautiful "nogi san" (I have no idea what her full name is) keep up the good work man!
Gabriel Bá and Fabio Moon are both great, the subtle differences in their art for Daytripper is amazing
The combo of Russell Dauterman and Matt Wilson would some awesome art for you to check out
Can you check out Neal Adams? Hes a really cool batman Comics artist and is very well known!
Have you done the Luna Brothers? If not check out their work on _The Sword_ .
I'm so much more used to reading manga that I didn't see any problem with the page layout example until I realized I was reading right to left XD
Hey, what if you try doing something with "Drawdinovember" I know november is about to end, but it could be like the inktober videos again
I just got a Locke & Key comic and felt exactly like you about character design in there. But I also feel proud of Rodriguez being Chilean myself too. He's way better at buildings, perspective, etc, I guess because was an architect before he jumped into illustration and comics.
i have a idea you can look at bad comic book art and redraw the drawing or fixing the drawing in like photo shop or something
batman in the start looks like he's yelling "BUCCIARITTI!"
Batman be brushing his teeth with a cordless screwdriver
