Nice tutorial. I use the same method. And I like how you work from a drop of paint. With the enamel bottles I always dip straight into the bottle but now I want to try your way.
Toppervision1 I use the drop because i can't dip the brush in the Vallejo bottles, otherwise i do the same. but then shake the paint and use the cap to dip my brush in
Cool Tutorial dude ... Simply things that increase the look of a car :)
I just built this golf gti kit. I masked the windows like shown in this video but I used a black permanent marker instead of paint no runs and looks great
Any tips on restoring old plastic windshield/back glass piece from a 1981 Ertl 1/25 General Lee….its yellowed and not real clear, Ive wet sanded starting with 2000 grit and working up to 15000 grit sandpaper, it seem smooth, but not clear…I’m thinking trying some floor wax or perhaps an enamel clear-coat…any tips for restoring old / yellowed / hazy …???
A good clearcoat should make kt clear and glossy again. Try making it wet with some water. If its clear and glossy then. The clearcoat should do the job
@@TheScalemodelingChannel YES!! Thank You, I just did that with the water, looks real clear!! I’ll use spray the clear-coat on it in a couple days (bad weather). Thank You so much!!
This is an invauluble tutorial where I saw the same method on ItalianHorses.net. Thanks for sharing Tom, I think everyone hates doing this!
ELP Modelling Totaly agree, though the ones on the outside are not to bad. the inside black lines are the worst!
Thanks for sharing. What wide masking tape do you recommend?
Very usefull tips thanks for that.
Because i'm building the GTI right now 👍
Superb why did I not think of that.
i'm curious how the black looks when it's dry. I like to stick with flat black to do the trim and my LHS just started selling vallejo so I've had a chance to try them out, but i noticed vallejo only has this black you used.
Well not really. This is pretty muuch the blackest black they have. But i think they have about 10 variations. Some metallic some more grey etc etc. When dried up its flat black with a bit of a rubbery sheen to it.
l noticed in your videos that you use zap a gap to hold small items while painting. How do you attach it to the piece?
Okay I found here but could you expand a little this tutorial ? I have a problem with painting seals. And cleaning the glass - what resources to use. I am a beginner and I have a problem with that. And you 're doing a good job !! And I would do the same :) And please do more videos "How to"!!!! thanks mate!!!
primerk87 Next time i come arround to doing a job like this i will do another "How To"
For cleaning the glass i use a micro fiber towel, or my T-shirt :D

Hi Tom! I am very new to the world of airbrushing but I can't help noticing your technique in that you go back and forth on the trigger all the time. Is it necessary to turn back and forth from paint to air so often? My usual way is to just keep my finger on the paint release until the job is done. Maybe this is a way of saving paint? Would appreciate your comments. Thank you...Judy in Canada
+Judy Garnhum if you keep the paint flow going you will create more overspray and use more paint. And also run the risk of getting a lot more paint on certain spots if you don't move fast enough.
If you like it this way, just keep going. But i would suggest to try it my way aswell to see the difference
Thank you Tom, I very much value your opinion. I enjoy your videos so much, you are an expert, keep on going! Judy in Canada
So I have a question regarding bare metal foil, should I apply the bare metal foil then clear coat or visa versa?
+DJ_ Clark you can do both.
Nice tips thank you
hey i have one more question . I have a problem with them sticking . When I used glue to paint the windows melted away :/. you using a special glue ?
You used plastic gleu, that melta the plastic together. When gluing in clear parts use wood gleu or gleu designed for clear parts, like revell contact clear
would Testors clear part cement melt away the paint?
Hi, I have a model that only provides a front and rear windshield no side glass. The model is a 1967 Impala by AMT. So this car has the old style windows in the front with the Triangle vent windows and I believe the rear windows only went down 2/3 of the way. Is there a way to simulate the Triangle windows and the rear windows in the rolled down state?
+Joe Krol cut it out and gleu ir in how you want it to sit
There is nothing to cut, no clear windows came with it.
Joe Krol then just cut some clear plastic to shape and glue it in.
gaaf, mooi werk!
Love Beethoven
For some reason I thought you had uploaded this video before
Dejavu? :p i have done one on masking the inside if the window's on modern cars.
could i use testors in those glass jars?
Yeah, why not?
it is enamel
that still works on clear parts
Thanks for that good tip, didnt know about this, definitely will use it on my next build which is Nissan Skyline R32. Ohh and one more thing.. Do you like doing builds of a real car? like making it the same as someone has the same car so you make it exactly same?
I mostly build it the way i imagine how it should be. But i do commission work aswell. Somtimes i copy a car i like the look of.
haha same here mate
