I have found that my "high IQ only shows up in certain areas and, oddly enough, riddles are often not one of those areas. I did get all 4 right but sometimes not for the right reasons. LOL

I worked it out by: "if Theresa's daughter is my daughter's mother, who am i to theresa" so, the part, my daughters mother, that is basically you right. So if you have a daughter (presuming your a girl) then that daughters mother is you so it basically says, if Theresa's daughter is me. So i am Theresa's daughter. Not son in law, son in law would work if it didn't say daughter

In the 2nd one, you just assume Sarah's relationship status. If you assume she's married then she's looking at the unmarried person (Paul), but if you assume she's not married then JOHN is the one who's looking at an unmarried person (Sarah).

Exactly! That's what I was thinking. In both cases, whether or not Sarah was married, there would still be a married person looking at an unmarried person.

I reckon the original question has multiple choices _(which they didn't display on the screen),_ and the only choice available other than one you mentioned _(which is also correct)_ is *Teresa's Daughter* (or I am Teresa).

I still don't get the first one lol. My answer is I'm Teresa's *son in law*. Cause Teresa's daughter is my wife (She's the mother of my daughter.) and that makes Teresa my mother in law.
Edit: After a few minutes of thinking, I realized that if I'm a female the answer 'Teresa's daughter' would be right. So this riddle actually has 2 answers lmao.

This might be too late, but my answer would be "the mother", the name of the mother is Theresa and if you ask me why, here's my explaination, lets say i am theresa, so i can say...
"theresa's daughter (which you can also understand as "my daughter) is my daughter's mother(which is Theresa who just referring to herself) , who am i to Theresa.? It is just like Theresa is the one who ask the question. So she reffer to her daughter as "theresa's daughter" to make things complicated or just for the riddle. I hope this make sense. 😅
The son in law could work as an answer but from the info the riddle gives you it is less correct than you yourself being theresas daughter. Though there is proof that theresa has a daughter who also has a daughter, there is no info about theresa's daughter being married. Just because you have a daughter doesnt always necessarily mean you are married, therefore if you were the granddaughters blood related father, you could just as be a stranger to theresa's mother just as well as you could be her son in law. In this deduction the answer that you are theresas daughter (instead of her husband) is more true to the situation in all possible interpretations

그렇기때문에 기혼자가 미혼자를 바라보는것이 됩니다.
여기서 필요조건은 사라의 결혼의 유무는 상관이 없습니다.
그리고 이 질문의 중요점은 이 두가지 가정을 모두 포함시켜야 한다는것이죠.
그렇기때문에 1번이 됩니다.
맞추신 3번은 오히려 3번 문제를 못 맞추는 사람들이 훨씬 많아요.
3번도 질문 자체가 가정법이 잘못된 경우가 있거든요.
한개의 타이어만 터진 상태고 나머지 타이어에 대한 가정이 전혀 없으니까요.
나머지 타이어의 너트들이 전부 있는지 없는지에 대한 가정이 있어야 합니다.
아니면 안전하게 못가죠.
그래서 1번과 3번 문제는 직관의 문제라고도 많이들 말합니다.
1번은 예제가 없다면 직관적으로 대부분 자신을 사위라고 말하고
3번은 2번 문제와 같이 가정법만 제대로 적혀져 있었다면 올리가 맞춘 대답을 하거든요.
4번은 전혀 트릭이 없는 문제 입니다.
질문에 모든 가정이 들어가있죠.
영상속에 질문의 디테일이 사라진것이 보입니다.
이 죄수들은 흰 모자 2개와 검은 모자 2개를 각자가 쓴 색을 모를뿐 자신들이 그 모자들을 쓰고 있다는 것을 압니다.
이 가정은 영상 속 6:06 에 나오죠.
그리고 이 범죄자들은 가정이 아닌 확신이 있을때만 답을 말할 수 있습니다.
답을 맞추면 모두 풀려나지만 답을 틀리면 모두 사형당하기 때문입니다
이 4번 문제의 벽 너머에 있는 3번과 4번 사람은 제외하도록 하죠. 그들은 절대 답을 말할 수 없습니다. 왜냐하면 그들은 정보가 없기에 아무것도 모르기때문이죠.
1번 사람은 자신 앞에 흰 모자와 검은 모자를 쓴 사람이 보이지만 그렇게 되면 남은 모자는 흰 모자 ,검은모자. 즉 50 대 50이 되어버려서 확신을 할 수가 없습니다.
그렇기에 그는 답을 못합니다.
2번 사람은 시간이 지나면서 이런 생각을 합니다
'1번이 왜 가장 많은 정보를 가졌으면서도 답을 말하지 않지?'
그래서 2번은 가정을 해봅니다.
1-1)자신의 앞에 있는 사람은 검정 모자를 쓰고 있다.
1-2)만약 내가 3번과 다른 색의 모자를 쓰고 있다면 3번은 검정색이고 나는 하얀색이다.
1-3)그렇게 되면 1번은 자신과 4번이 무슨 색의 모자를 쓰고 있는지 확신할수 없다. 그 확률은 50:50이 되어버리기 떄문이다.
그래서 그는 대답을 못한다.

1-4) 만약 내가 3번과 같은 검정 색의 모자를 쓰고 있다면 1번 사람과 4번 사람은 당연히 흰색일것이다.
1-5) 그렇다면 1번 사람은 당연히 1번이 쓰고 있는 모자의 색이 흰색이라고 말해야 한다. 그러나 1번은 그러지 않고있다.
1-6)그렇다면 나는 흰색의 모자를 쓰고 있다.
그렇기때문에 2번의 남자가 제일 먼저 대답을 하게 됩니다.
시간을 두고 질문을 천천히 보시고 가정을 적어가며 생각해보면 대부분 다 풉니다.
1번째 문제는 “테레사의 딸이 내 딸의 어머니라면 테레사와 나는 무슨 관계 일까?” 인데, ‘테레사의 딸=내 딸의 어머니’ 여서 내 딸의 어머니는 ‘나’ 이기 때문에 “테레사의 딸=나”그래서 관계는 테레사의 딸이 되는거에용 (진지해서 죄송합니다ㅠ)

원래 저 질문에는 보기가 5개 정도가 나와요. 그래서 정확한 가정하에 추리가 가능하게 해주는데,
지금 조시와 올리가 보는건 보기가 나오는지 모르겠지만, 아무래도 보기를 읽지 않는걸보니, 주관식 문제겠죠?
보기가 안주어진다면 저건 장모와 사위도 가능합니다. 그리고 만약 주어진 보기에 사위가 있고 딸이 없다면 사위도 가능하고요.
잘 생각해보세요.
첫번째 문제 오류 : 자신이 여자라고 가정했을 때는 정답이 자신은 테레사의 딸 이 되지만 자신이 남자라고 가정 할 경우 테레사는 자신의 장모가 됩니다.

In case you're still stumped on the Theresa's daughter riddle, the original question was multiple choice. The answers were generally all female members of the family (Theresa herself, grandmother, daughter, etc.). The phrase "my daughter's mother" could only apply to "me" (since we're only dealing with female members of the family), so that is why Theresa's daughter is "me", hence the answer is "Theresa's daughter".

@@ashleygriffin My daughter's mother is either me or my wife. The sentence doesn't tell you what your gender is so you could be the father which would make you Theresa's son-in-law. I assume your confusion comes from only females being mentioned in the riddle

if Teresa's daughter is my daughter's mother then that means I had to had sex with Teresa's daughter to have my daughter. therefore I am married to Teresa's daughter and that makes me Teresa's son in law. if I was Teresa's daughter that means my sister (Teresa's daughter) and I adopted another child or got married and she somehow gave birth to a daughter.

The question doesn't state if there are more than one daughter so if there is only one then yes you would be Teresa's daughter.

Well, you wouldn't technically have to be married to Teresa's daughter in order to produce a child with her, so your relationship with Teresa may not even be the son in law.
However, you don't need to have had sex with Teresa's daughter to have produced her daughter. You could _be_ Teresa's daughter. Follow the logic:
I am Teresa's daughter.
I am my daughter's mother.
Therefore Teresa's daughter is my daughter's mother.
When you think of it in terms of a simultaneous equation you can replace any given term in one equation with its value from the other. In this case we're replacing the "I" with its value (Teresa's daughter).
In grammatical terms you wouldn't do this of course.

Nyctohylophiliac but “son-in-law” is a guess made on the assumption that both of Theresa’s granddaughters biological parents are married to each other. “Son-in-law” might be correct, but “the man that got Teresa’s daughter pregnant or Teresa’s daughter” is all we can be sure of from the information given! Personally I didn’t like the car question, it involved compromising safety as the solution while the other 3 were all just logic problems

I think we can argue that either the question has a logical deformity to it or it is just meant to be perceived as an isolated riddle rather than a riddle contained in an universal set. If Sara is married, and she's looking at Paul, then a married person is looking at an unmarried person.
If Sara is unmarried, and John is looking at her, again, a married person is looking at an unmarried person.
So even though Sara's marital status is unknown, either way, a married person is looking at an unmarried person.
Easy. But isn't "Teresa's son in law" (or, at least, "Teresa's granddaughter's father") also acceptable answer for the first one?

"My daughter's mother" clearly means either me or my spouse (in traditionally structured families at least). I am not my daughter, and in no way, shape or form am I implying I am my own daughter. EDIT: also, "daughter's-mother" doesn't exist, but if it did it would probably refer to a specific type of mother that has a daughter, as in at least one female person refers to her as mother. By compounding names like that you are removing "my" from "daughter" before combining it with mother. Also, "my mother's daughter" is different still, as it might refer either to me or to my sister, but never to my spouse.

To those arguing about the first question, it's originally a multiple-choice question, with all answers being female. Son-in-law is the logical answer and would be correct, but Josh and Ollie didn't state that it's a multiple choice between being a grandmother, mother, daughter, granddaughter or that you're Teresa. Without being limited to those options, it should only stump you once you read the answer, and that's out of confusion, not because it's a difficult question.
This is a classic riddle, and it makes sense that it would be a multiple choice problem, to rule out the simplest logical answer.
Well it can also be the daughter-in-law then. The kid simply would be adopted but it works the same

Riddle solving is not a useless skill! It's good for problem solving! Every problem presents itself in different ways! Stretching your ability to solve things with random variables is a great exercise! Solve more riddles!

If he saw that men 2 and 3 have the same colour of their hats (e.b. both white, or both black), then this colour is automatically out, and he would know for sure that his own hat must have been the opposite colour. (E.g. if men 2 and 3 wore white hats, his own hat must have been black, and vice versa.)
But if men 2 and 3 have different colours, the man number 1 is clueless, and won't risk to say anything. But his silence is an information to the man number 2 that his hat is different than man number 3's hat, which he can see. So he can just take the opposite of whatever he sees, with 100% certainty.

I had a quiz with that last riddle with the hats and one guy got it immediately which i found really impressive. He then explained to everyone and some people still didn’t get it
I still don’t get it. If 2 and 3 are wearing the same colour hat, then 1 will be the first to shout out because he knows his must be the other colour.
2 being the first to shout is predicated on 1 _not_ shouting out, which is only going to be the case if 2 and 3 are wearing different colour hats - if that premise is not fulfilled, then 2 is _not_ going to be the first to shout one, 1 is.
Unless we know for certain that the four men are actually wearing the hats as shown in the image, the answer can be either 1 or 2, and since the men themselves (according to the information in the riddle) don’t know any such thing, there can be no definitive answer.
@@kokoshneta Thats why that riddle is always presented with the picture, it's never presented without it, obviously if 2 and 3 have the same color hat then number 1 will shout, but that would make the riddle super easy, if the riddle is presented without the picture, and someone answers that number 1 will shout because 2 and 3 have the same color, then you can follow up with "what if 2 and 3 have different color hats", the riddle is about understanding how to think through process of elimination. Once you look at the picture and no one instantly shouts they have a hat of X color, you start looking at the situation to understand who can figure out their hat color, number 1 doesnt have enough information to figure out his color because he cant see number 4, number 3 and 4 cant see anything so they have no information at all, which leaves you with number 2, who knows that number 1 doesnt know his own color which means 2 and 3 have diff color hats, and because 2 can see that 3 has "color A" hat it means he has "color B" hat. Its a great riddle when presented properly,
In the first riddle it can be Teresa's daughter's husband also....

I was thinking more on probability. The 2nd man would answer first because seeing a man with a black hat in front of him means that there are to 2 white hats and 1 black hat left. He would then think that he would most likely have a white hat.
The 3rd guy would think there were 2 more black hats and 1 white left so he would most likely believe he had a black hat. With the 3rd guy saying he had a black hat and the 2nd guy had a white hat, the other two have a 50/50 chance😂
