When I was 12 years old in 1955, I used to put on the saddle on the blanket by lifting and swing it above my head on a small broom tail mare. If I recall we use to put the right sturrup on horn. That little mare would go anywhere in SE New Mexico's hills with cactus and gullies. I was told if you can't saddle them, you shouldn't be riding them.

I recon practice makes perfect. I better get started. Just got a new saddle and it is heavy.
