The song is fitting for this exercise with this horse. ❤❤❤
I recon practice makes perfect. I better get started. Just got a new saddle and it is heavy. Thank you for this video.
Your the only other one - besides my students- that runs your left Latigo like me 😊. Great video , for many don't know these basics.... I've had horses come in that wete like a " fainting goat" from being cinched too tight first off .
When I was 12 years old in 1955, I used to put on the saddle on the blanket by lifting and swing it above my head on a small broom tail mare. If I recall we use to put the right sturrup on horn. That little mare would go anywhere in SE New Mexico's hills with cactus and gullies. I was told if you can't saddle them, you shouldn't be riding them.
Very useful.
Love your approach, and I'd love to do it that way, but for us Shorties, there will not be any calmly placing our arm over the horse's head, LOL. Instead, I do walk up with the halter correctly ready, then let horse place it's nose in the halter and toss the far side of the connector over it's head. Sounds awful, but we do what we have to. BTW, once the nose is in, my horse will stand patiently and wait for me to complete putting the halter on.
I'm 5ft.tall & female, and ride a good-sized horse. This is exactly the way my wonderful Cuban instructor taught me. I'm constantly grateful to him as well as amazed at how much work many people make this by doing it in other ways.
Thank you so much! That helps a lot!
You're welcome!
Great demonstration!
Thanks a lot to show us how to do a rope note ! I did not know it as in my horse riding school there are most of the time classical halters . I instinctively do your approach. To pet them at beginning. To caress neck, shoulder, head and put the briddle to go to the barn before grooming. I know one poney who 's terrible to catch. It takes hours sometimes. Really. The very first time I catched was really easy for me. One good apple. Standing enough far from this small mare, then I tasted my apple, and said it was very tasty. The mare got interested of course. She was looking at me! I walked slowly to her. Caressed the neck, gave her pieces of it... and I was so silly i asked to the instructor and futur rider ( it was a kind of test for me lol!) what must I do now ? They were saying, catch her. So... I did it. Then I thought it was not very difficult. Last time my mare was with her very best friend, I could have catch the two. The other mare was so sweet she wanted me to put her the halter. I love both of them for a long time too. I am an old equestrian. 😂
thanks my horse is cinchy
Not only was this helpful, it was also great to learn from Billy Bob Thornton!
