    Go J series? That's a horrible idea, don't get me wrong they're good motors and he's wrong about practicality. A J series swap makes perfect sense if you want a quick daily driver that can cruise, get good gas mileage depending on the weight of the car, and really pull so that you can merge onto the highway. But racing wise there's not as much support, you'd be competing in a V6 class, and your not as light as you would be in a K swapped car which is what Hondas are good at. Engineering wise the SOHC VTEC in the J series is only on the intake side which means it SUCKS compared to the K series DOHC i-VTEC. As far as maintenance wise a J series that's been shoe horned into a Civic or Integra is going to be about as much fun and easy to work on as a Twin Turbo 300ZX and don't forget you'll probably have to butcher your baby and cut a massive hole in the hood to get it to fit. Not mentioning the real bottle neck of all swaps, parts availability, a manual transmission for a J series swap is about as easy to find as a Virgin in college and a manual transmission with an LSD, which is the one you're going to want with all the torque a J series makes, is even harder to find. The list goes on, the point is there are more cons than pros for a J series swap when compared to a K series that this guy didn't point out simply because he hasn't researched the swap in its entirety. If you want a practical and quick daily that could pull on 80% of what's out there then yeah go J series with an auto swap, it'll be cheap and effective but if you want to build a competitive street/track car then go K. There's a reason all of the Top FWD Time Attack Cars are K powered and not J.

    • @MITONFILMS
      @MITONFILMS  7 ปีที่แล้ว +52

      +Jacob Flores Believe it or not J series is used in the lower end time attack classes because in stock or close to stock form it has way better torque/hp because of the displacement. Drag racing is a completely different story so i cannot talk about that. K series i will agree is better in the higher hp range and J is better for the stock-ish swap in an EG/DC. J series is definitely not practical and depending on j choice the intake mani will stick out the hood making it not the most daily friendly. If you want a quick daily just boost it 👌

    • @oOFallenThunderOo
      @oOFallenThunderOo 7 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      That's cool I didn't know that. I should mention I was referring to the Top FWD Unlimited Time Attack Cars. You won't necessarily have cut the hood if you have the adjustable Hasport mounts but the you have to choose between ground clearance or hood clearance. Still have to disagree with you when it comes to practicality though, a Auto J swaped Civic or Integra would be very stout on the highway, great on gas, and as long as the swap was done well and with as most OEM parts as possible it should be reliable. I don't know how that's not practical, will it be a little loud? Depending on the exhaust system but other then that an Auto J series should be very tame. The K series is an overall better engineered motor. Who wants to run a boosted D series when you could use that money to pay for a motor swap, and then boost it.

    • @MITONFILMS
      @MITONFILMS  7 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      Jacob Flores you'd be surprised how many people constantly comment about how D series is still good/relevant and how you shouldnt doubt it. Nowadays anything is possible. Its all about money to power ratio ( unless you are rich)

    • @oOFallenThunderOo
      @oOFallenThunderOo 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Miton Films No I wouldn't because I've seen them, the D series basically has a cult following which has got a few merits, but the cost to power ratio of that motor is too high unless you're rich, blind to the benefits of the other motors available, or just really love the D lol

    • @dayadam16
      @dayadam16 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Jacob Flores the cost of dseries is stupid cheap and you can rebuild a d series and turbo it for under 2000 properly the rebuild kits are cheap and ebay turbo and hit a reliable 300whp for way cheap. ofcourse id still go with the h2b which is my current setup

    @les84long1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +169

    Stock for stock, the j32a2 and the cl-s 6 speed will eat any other swap. Bolt ons and suspension and you have a very manageable 300hp beast. I did my j swap in a ek Civic and it runs mid 12s. Really only took me about 3k, doing all the work myself. It's heavy, and has more torque then necessary for daily uses. But coilovers, traction bar and bushings and you can corner with the rest of them. The hasport mounts are adjustable so you don't have to cut the hood. Makes for the ultimate sleeper. Just my opinion. Been driving my j swap daily for about 3 years. No issues.

    it is nice when you do these discussions keep it up. I am doing a kswap on my channel an I have no mechanical nor any ASE credentials, all u need is to research and hours of it. the kseries is overated yes but it has a better HP per liter than the jseries and the jseries isn't that easy, you still have to remove the spot welds from passenger side mounts, cut out or get a ktuned shifter box and wiring harness. Hondas best engine is the f20c and f22c fron factory and people still swap them for the k20 because of how advance it is. if you are looking for easy and quick power just go boosted B,D or H series.

Aftermarket cams are risky especially since junk2 (aka skunk2) started making cams for ks. Just stay away from aftermarket kseries cams and your good to go... unless your cruising for a bruising at the school of hard knocks. About 1-2% of the kseries cams do last but just be warned.

    I drive a 06 sixspeed v6 sedan accord. And believe me, the J30a5 is such a beautiful engine. It's quick in stock form. I just wish there was more aftermarket support for them. Basically all we can do is intake exhaust. Then slap a tl ecu in it and run Hondata. It sucks that there's no love for them because in stock form they can hold a great amount of Powers reliably too.

      Emanuel Sacriste I think its because they're getting old...? Or because these engines being compared are high displacement vs B series you could barely get a 1.8L without massive mods... I've heard of people building on B20s, but that must be a huge pain considering they didn't have VTEC (and the tuners made them VTEC)... Must've been some B20 with B16B shit in it

    K series are high revving monsters perfect for boost, factory forged
    The H series is a crazy smooth, even powerband great for all motor power, and so decently under boost. And hey, the gen five prelude is one of the best looking Hondas ever!
    The B series are perfect for wind it to the moon style engine builds.
    Love them all. The H22 is a perfect balance for almost any small chassis Honda. Pair it with the F23 engine block, for the iron piston sleeves, and breath some boost into it. Cams/Porting go a long way aswell, seeing that it is a great flowing head.

    What do you mean J series isn't practice I daily drove one for a good year rain or shine with the 3.5 sticking out of the hood in California. It's a stock engine (Honda reliability). It's as practical as the K series. Meaning you'll need an ecu axles shift linkage custom harness motor mounts, and a good tunner. However I don't think a k series will put down 317hp and 305tq with just a tune stock engine NA.
