    Totally agree with Patrick. In the 90s I knew all of the big race winners and could spend 15-20 minutes studying form. These days it's non stop, which has resulted in me being far more selective in my bets. Only the punters who can't read form etc enjoy this overload.

    I couldn't agree more. I've been basically obsessed with racing since I was young and often enough, there would be a horse I want to watch and there'd be another on a different channel. I'd have to record and go back. You'd be flicking channels so often that you eventually end up missing out on a race that you wanted to watch

    I'm a small player with a fading interest in racing due to the very facts that Patrick highlights. There is simply too much racing to keep up with or analyse even at the lowest levels. Races packed together from midday to late evening are bound to lead to the average punter losing enthusiasm. I agree that the answer is to be more discriminatory in choice of race if there is an answer tot the present situation.

    He’s spot on.. virtually impossible to keep up with the volume of racing.. it’s near on a full time job.. the relentless nature of the fixture list will ultimately be detrimental to the sport.. new fans of the sport will be put off straight away as they simply won’t be able to keep up or pick up / retain enough knowledge to manifest a long term interest.. the rolling fat cats & decision makers in the industry driven by bookmakers will no doubt do nothing to rectify things..

    he has a good point.flat racing has become a farce .. i stopped betting on flat racing a few year back because of the bookie friendly low grade tight handicaps that flood the cards... jump racing only nd take more of an interest mid october when the cheltenham horses re appear. this way you get the anticipation of a season starting in oct nd ending after the punchestown festival some time in may. many punters i know follow jumps racing only with cheltenham in mind nd have dropped flat racing alltogether.. top interview.. talks sense..

      I cannot bet on most handicaps because the handicapper has adjusted the weights to have a blanket finish, so one needs to find the 'group horse in a handicap', or one which is due to go up in weight in the future.

  • @salsabil44

    There´s been far too much racing for decades but I cannot remember it ever being worse, in my 45 years following the sport. Quantity over quality. Redcar, Newcastle, Leicester, Catterick, Newmarket... cavalry charge handicaps, ultra competitive handicaps, handicaps...or sellers, or claimers, where anything can win and old moderate horses take it in turns to win. Great for bookies but terrible for punters.For me, and many, the likelihood of potential reward just does´t justify putting in the time necessary to study these races. Daily betting has become grinding, the intensity relentless. No fun really. I like to take a few days off from punting now and then, just to recharge. Just look back to how interesting the racing schedule was after the lockdown, with top quality racing every week and compare it what we´re looking at now.

    • @salsabil44
      @salsabil44 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think his point about people need to go outside + get some exercise + sunlight is correct. The way his idea fails is lack of concern for the horses + the racecourses.Horses with limited ability have far more opportunities now than ever.Jockeys have far more opportunities than ever especially with the one meeting per day rule.I now live in Malaysia where they only race Sat/Sun + I used to live in L.A. when Santa Anita reduced it fixtures from six days to three/four. A lot of trainers had to quit.Maybe one apprentice would get enough rides to make it worthwhile but all the big races where won by the same 3 jockeys. A lot of racehorses had to retire. My personal view is it doesn't make you enjoy the racing more.I find it easy to ignore a Chelmsford,Wolverhampton + even a Monday night Windsor but they help people make a living in the industry.

      I used to work in national hunt racing and starting every day at 06.00 finishing at 18.00 with a few hours siesta was sustainable, but not getting your horse ready at 05.00 trvaellling, getting horse to the start, back in stable, washed and checked over ready for the three hour drive back to the stables, getting home about 8.00pm or even 10.00pm, then up again at 06.00 x six days a week.

    People will get fed up with useless horses day after day. In Australia we have 7 days of 160 races on each day re horses, dogs and harness. The betting shops are empty and on line bookies have skeleton staff managing a trifle turn over. As for too many horses and low prize money will see folk not bother. It is better to have fewer races of quality and the breeding industry will need to adjust. Better to close half the tracks and have racing 3 days a week. Sold tracks can be converted into training centres servicing say 8 trainers as lease holders much cheaper than setting up at private property. Time for quality over quantity. Do you read 16 bibles and 12 Shakespear plays each and every day? In the end we get bored with low class racing and pathetic odds. Another aspect is that top horses don't run in handicaps and 3 times a year a couple of lead up races to a carnival is the only time class horses of interest run. Rest of the time donkies donkies donkies. Gamblers who need guidance shoudl eliminate low grade races where volatile result occur as it doesn't take much for a moderate horse to improve 6 lengths. So refine and focus on top handicaps with 9 to 12 runners, no odds on favs and look on it as if you are buying some shirts... skirts.... be selective and determine your own criteria to use IF and WHEN to bet on WHAT races that are consistent in form results.

    The problem isn’t too much racing, it’s too much poor racing. If we had cheltenham quality races everyday day of the week I’d be as happy as Larry but there ain’t enough good horses on the flat or jumps to merit top racing everyday. For me, everything below class 3 on the flat is poor fare. Certainly class 5 and 6 which makes up the majority of midweek racing is dog shit and the reason horses are down in that grade are because they are inconsistent and unreliable, ergo who wants to bet on that tripe. Bookmakers want it as they coin from mug punters who get sucked into having a bet on those races. Anyone who knows the time of day would wait for the better cards or festival meets. Then we have the huge issue of bookies limiting or severely restricting successful accounts. All adds to a loss of customer base and interest in the sport.
