The skills of a Health Unit Coordinator is the same similar likeness of a RN --YOU are nearly doing a Charge Nurse position without physically seeing the patients --with a Patient Care TECH License and health unit Coordinator you are practically a LPN--ONLY NEEDING TO UNDERSTAND THE PROFESSIONAL SIDE OF BEING A REGISTERED NURSE--AND TAKE THE NCLEX --A PATHWAY OF Experience AND EDUCATION
It is a great deal of responsibility. However, most employers offer an orientation period. You may want to contact a health care facility in your area and ask the Human Resources or Education Department about their hiring requirements and orientation practices for their health unit coordinators (unit secretaries).
It’s a dying occupation with the advent of comprehensive EMR systems like EPIC Most out here in the west rare either being forced to transition to CNA or sacked.

I was certified for many years, and helped others prepare for the test. I believe that this is a serious career choice. I love it.
I’m actually in school right now for this! I graduate in august 2022!
This looks intimidating.. I dont know a lot of Things. After being certified do you just get thrown into this job without training?

@Kelsey Espeland which collage and is it hard
Maybe try somewhere smaller not a hospital
I typically wouldn't go to school for this as this education is provided at teaching hospitals along with training.
