  • Louisiana is a State rich in culture, but few realize how diverse the area is for its natural wonders. This trip I check out Kisatchie Nation Forest for free camping, wildlife and relaxation. Unfortunately I also experience the wrath of Mother Nature!
For the record, the "Armageddon" lightning bolt was fake! All other lightning, thunder and weather events were real.

Wow, now this was an interesting video. The thunderstorm with the lightning brought back fond memories of camping with my grandparents in their Sears canvas tent back in the early 1970’s. Thanks

Growing up in the Midwest, but now living in Idaho, caused me to reminisce about the smells of a hardwood forest with all that leaf litter underneath the canopy. And I sure do miss the flowering dogwoods and redbuds in the spring. I know a lot of gardeners curse the armadillo for reeking havoc on their gardens, but he was a charmer just going about his business and sucking up those juicy worms and grubs. And the luna moth was gorgeous! Another wonderful example of all there is to see if you just take time to look. Thanks Slim.

I was camping in a pop up at Brazos Bend State Park many years ago when a bad storm blew in. Rather than sit around and wait to get squashed by a tall Texas pine tree, I got in the truck and headed to open ground. Luckily no trees fell on the trailer, but I wasn’t about to sit around and chance it. When in doubt, always get out and head to higher ground. Trailers can be replaced. Lost lives cannot!

At the beginning you said something like, if you like flowers, Spring in Louisiana is the place to be. That's my home state and my immediate thought was, yes, but you better also love storms. And then... Glad you came through the storm okay. My Aliner bears lots of little dings from hale storms here in Southeast US. Those dings don't bother me. Am just grateful the camper held up so well. The beauty of our forests and parks are worth living through nature's temper tantrums. Thanks for sharing your adventures.

Slim, welcome to my state. That must have been last Thursday. They were predicting that storm for a week. In parts there were 75 mph gusts. Up north around Shreveport and Monroe I was told that it hailed golf ball size for most of the day. I live down south just off the I-10 corridor between Lafayette and Baton Rouge in Cajun Country. We got 4” of rain but no wind or hail. Sorry for the hail damage on your camper. If that weather wasn’t coming through, you wouldn’t have been so lucky to have the place to yourself. Thank goodness one of those pine trees didn’t snap off and land on you. They are bad about that. I have no pine trees around my house for that reason. Hey, thanks for the great vids and, please, keep them coming ! Safe travels. 👍 ✌️ 🇺🇸

Maybe the campgrounds were empty because of the weather forecast?
