- A look around Doncaster Airport on 2nd of March 2022 ( I say on the vlog 2nd May in error lol 😂 to early in the morning for me )

Robin Hood Doncaster Airport is located at the old RAF Finningley airbase, in Metropolitan Borough of the Doncaster within the South of Yorkshire, England. Doncaster airport lies at 3NM southeast of the Doncaster and 29 kilometer east of the Sheffield. The airport possesses a Public Use Aerodrome CAA License (P876) that allows the flights for public transport of the passengers or for the flying instructions. Name of this airport is often referred to on the travel/tourist websites and on the literature simply as the Doncaster Airport or the Sheffield Airport, even though official name is still the Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield. It is operated by the Peel Airports, which is a division of Peel Group and owned by the Vancouver Airport Services. The Peel Airports also manages and owns Durham Tees Valley and Liverpool John Lennon , former Sheffield City and City Manchester Airports. Handling approximately 822,000 passengers in the year 2011, is smaller as compared to the 2 large commercial airports of Yorkshire.
It serves as the home to the Doncaster Sheffield School of Flying which offers introductory flying lessons, aircraft hire and pilot training. It has just one runway designated 02/20 currently, with length of around 2,893 by 60m, that makes it wider and longer than all the other airports in the Northern England region. With such length, it is suitable for the wide-bodied, cargo-carrying or long-haul aircrafts as well. The runway is long enough which also made it as the Space Shuttle landing site for emergencies. There is enough room for further cargo and passenger capacity expansion in future too. As it stands, the Terminal capacity is approximately 2.5 million passengers every year.
Packed with a variety of restaurants, bars and shops, it offers something for all the passengers. Whether the person is travelling as a passenger through or just visit to drop off relatives or dear friends for their holidays, he can treat himself at the best of retail outlets or just stop for having a good food at the locations throughout the airport. All the restaurants and shops open just in time for the passengers who are departing on first flight of day, and will stay open normally until the very last flight of that day. The authorities have also introduced the facility of Wi-Fi access for all the passengers. If the passengers have a Wi-Fi enable device like a PDA or laptop, he can access the wireless internet anytime. The internet access is provided by Cloud, which is a leading operator of Wi-Fi network across Europe. The passengers can avail the facilities of money exchange services, and shop for the magazines, confectionaries, books and newspapers.
The Airline & Tour Operators working are: Crystal Ski, Bolsover Cruise Club, Balkan Holidays, First Choice, Island Cruises, Flybe, P&O Cruises, Thomas Cook, Ryanair, Wizz Air, Transum,i and Thomson. A Defence BAE Systems company operates their Aircraft Maintenance Academy from the Hangar No. 3. Other companies that usually operate within the hangars are Kinch Aviation Services and Bespoke Training Systems Ltd. The passenger terminal has 24 check desks, 3 baggage carousels and 6 departure gates. Part of the site of airport is being turned into a technology and business park which would link with M18 motorway at the Junction 3.

About a million people a year and totally crying out for a terminal like this.
Yes it's a very sad state of affairs, just means the big 4 airports in UK get even busier and more delays.

It's just so pointless 😒 shutting it down. Peel airports only recently were wanting to install air bridges and more improvements. 😡😢

Amazing it's closed. It's a lovely airport. I'm in Belfast and we have two disgraces of airports. This is luxury compared to what we have and so much bigger. A real airport. Someone should show our airport designers this to show them what a real airport looks like.
Thanks for watching 😎👍, you are right Doncaster was much better than a lot of airports, longest runway in UK as it was a former RAF airbase (finingley) Leeds and Bradford is a ok airport but so very busy and that's only about 30miles away from Doncaster. It crazy that Doncaster is closed.
I agree. Belfast International (which isn't in Belfast) and Belfast CIty are a joke. City being the better option but hardly having any flights whatsoever.

Yes a lot of people will need to find alternative airports, my second favourite is Liverpool very similar to Doncaster.
If the council can’t afford to lease the airport from Peel group, then there was no chance of them buying it outright. 👍

In the medieval times, Sherwood Forest used to reach up to York and almost to London. So Robin Hood was a regular in the area lol!!!

It does look quiet and uncrowded but a bit too quiet I think. A double edged sword really.
Hi thanks for watching. Yes there was a duty free area, compared to Leeds and Bradford I would have picked Doncaster all day long, it's very sad Doncaster airport has had to shut down.
@Travels with the Russells Yes, such a shame. Would've made more sense for Humberside to have closed, thus making Doncaster Sheffield the logical choice for North Lincs and Hull people.

At the time of your video, DSA was still suffering the effects of Omicron, both TUI & Wizz flights have increased significantly with the start of the summer season in May. The old Wetherspoon was closed nearly 10 years ago & will soon disappear as part of the works to add 3 additional departure gates at that end of the building.

what times do the costa open? i’m looking at getting to the airport at 1am for a 6am flight, due to being dropped off by family?
Not sure anything will be open until about 1 hour before the 1st flight of the day, so it could be 5am if yours is the first flight.
I was supposed to go Manchester airport but they transferred the flight here 😔😭😭
When did this happen? It's always a disappointment when plans are changed though no fault of yourself.

Peel group own this airport understand it's in a bad way financialy. May have to close down, what a waste !!

Yes unfortunately Doncaster airport last commercial flight is on the 4th Nov 2022 with TUI. It's a sad day when a great airport closes yet others airports fight to cope and expand there services.

Agree it's Doncaster airport, I heard today that there is a possibility it may be getting closed down, now wiz air has pulled from it. I hope it manages to stay open.
actually was partly funded by sheffield. But i agree. should now be Doncaster city airport.
