    Hi Mark. Great video, thanks. I’m looking at starting a build. Did you ever repair/rebuild the model? I’ve seen a lot of techniques for scratch building and how to best protect the plans on the table. What did you use with the build?

  • @shelbyseelbach9568

    My understanding of this design is that there are weaknesses in the wing as designed? Were any specific steps taken to address this issue?

    • @markbrownrc1679
      @markbrownrc1679  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I wasn’t aware of the problem at the time of building it the wing broke off after 8 flights in flight at 300” and destroyed the model the model has been rebuilt and it ready for paint. The wing spare has been beefed up. I will post the rebuild once it’s finished

    Where did you get the cut kit? The plans shows 5-ply aircraft ply for the wing spars.

    Can you post about the wing failure and submit possible remedies? I'm building the very same plane. I will probably beef up the middle spar. Did you glass the wing? Thanks

    • @markbrownrc1679
      @markbrownrc1679  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes the wing was glassed with 3/4 oz cloth. I would biff up the main spar and the two at leading and trailing edge of the wing. the wood supply for my kit was only lite ply double the thickness at least for the main spar.

    I built same plane used the kit wood as templates to cut my own pieces cuse I like to save the kit wood in all my balsa planes due to the fact that some of my kits are 20-60 years old and you can't buy them anymore and if I use the kit wood then the kits is gone forever besides plans so I use the kit wood as my templates to trace onto the new balsa wood which is probably stronger from the kit wood sitting for ,20 plus years and getting weaker over time and after I use it as templetes I vacuum seal all the kit wood air tight to save it to build plane again or sell or collect in the future I'm only 30 so my oldest lot which is 55 years old I can hold onto it for years and hopefully it will become so rare to have the original wood and full kit that it will be a very valuable collectable model like the rest of my vintage balsa kits. I got about 53 vintage kits that are complete brand new still sealed newest one is 23 years old telemaster the big one which I built using my own wood of course. I also have about 10 other balsa kits few from bang good that I did use the kit wood that was laser cut and made a beautiful scale model Cessna and a few others from dancing wings I built and I have one giant 1/4 scale f4u Corsair I built don't know the brand because it came in a different box cuse original box was to damaged the guy threw it away and properly preserved the whole kit so I used my own wood and built it took me 3 months working on it every night after work in my apartment or the garage I rented in my complex accross the road to turn into a workshop and I have about 12 1/4 scale warbirds in there and all the kids and adults are in wow when I have door open in evenings working on my planes and building them or painting them.

      Wow...yeah. Collection of r/c planes have taken over full basement ide say roughly 75 to 100 planes a few are from his high school years method of covering ....is the key on how long planes will last...his is with silk & dope
      Now days uses cover all similar to sekenight..same as full scale...butrate dope...

      Yes I had 15 great flights it flew Beautiful but sadly it ended on the 15th flight when the left wing broke off at around 400feet the result was not pretty. I will rebuild it but the wing is going to need some serious strengthening around where it meets the fuse.

      Mark.. id love to have a more in depth conversation with you about your thoughts on why it failed, as well as the eme70 and how it performed. . I just completed my own z-corsair.. this is the second instance I've heard of a failure at the fuse. Email me at your leisure if you would like to open a conversation.

      @@markbrownrc1679 Great video and work. Sad to hear about the planes end. I had a ziroli corsair for about 10 years with at least 1000 flights on it before it crashed( my fault always check your batteries) I am in the process of making a new one and i am curios why yours failed.

    • @markbrownrc1679
      @markbrownrc1679  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mgerks Hi just make sure you biff up the 3 wing spars in the centre of the wing down to the re-tracks I would double the plywood and use good aircraft ply the ply Ziroli supplied was only three ply you need to use six ply or greater. I will build another one someday it was one of the best flying aircraft I’ve ever owned sad to lose it good luck and if you get the wing wight you we love it. Cheers
