Except for "Feels So Good", I've never really listened to Chuck Mangione before. This quartet is killing it!!!

I saw this tune performed live at Widener College in Chester Pa 1973. I was blown away by Niewood's solo, In fact this solo is inspired and transcendent.

Niewood's solo on this and Land of Make Believe.... amazing. I transcribed his LoMB solo when I was a kid. Can't find it now. Still remember how to play a lot of it from memory, can sing the whole thing. He was an incredible, WAY underrated player. So was Chuck. You can't suck and play in the Jazz Messengers as he did.

MY favorite rendition, Every aspect of this recording screams artistry !

That's Chuck on Fender Rhodes, and Ron Davis on drums ! Gotta' love when Chuck brings the keys in during Gerry Niewood's solo, while the buildup from Ron Davis just keeps propelling the solo on !

There used to be a video of this piece being performed by the quartet - don't know what happened to it.

LOVE this! You can tell they love it too...this is the type of vibe/performance that I can put on repeat for awhile.

      Thanks.
I incorrectly thought the player to be Chris Vadala.
      Great work!

Without claiming to be a John Coltrane aficionado, the sax work on this piece sounds like it could've been the great man himself. Simply stunning!!

My fave Mangione-love how stripped down it is...before he bogged everything down with orchestras.

Great solo by Gerry Niewood! I loved this group before Chuck went commercial and into the smooth jazz. They put out a live album together that was very good.

Chuck gets blamed for being a founder of smooth jazz but this track it pure art and far from smooth jazz.
