The big swig is a support weapon. It isn't great at splatting people, but it's ink consumption is insanely low - You can roll it for almost twice as long as the other rollers without running out of ink! It's good for turf war and maybe splat zones but not great for clam blitz and tower control. Just be happy you didn't get it in a salmon run shift like i once did...
It's almost good in the Glowfly event, almost. It can kill 90% of the restless salmonids (excluding goldies), but halfway through it's ink consumption it stops killing as the salmonids start getting through the roller or go around its wide roller even on the narrow grate bridges of Marooners Bay.

I heard big swig described as like a reverse flingza, with a kill flick and an incredible ink tool horizontal as opposed to flingza's kill horizontal and incredible ink tool flick. I think that's is the most accurate description.

My best guess with the Big Swig is that it’s so wide and needed to distribute ink evenly in a spread out manner that the power is also spread out instead of being heavy all around. Pretty much a more Support-based version of Carbon

I don’t think it’s necessarily that people hate the weapon, it’s just that the kit is objectively bad. Big swig is hilariously fun to play (mainly cause of the absurd painting capability), but it could be FAR better if it actually had a special worth painting for and a sub it actually wanted to use

The Big Swig Roller is be far the best roller for paint, but it’s a lot like the Aerospray, because it just does not kill well.
Nova is definitely more of a support weapon. I prefer playing support roles more but I find if I do try and get right in the action with Nova I'm ✌️ dead. I definitely play more sneaky/stealthy and I find it works decent enough for that
