I think the Dibbler looks great polished. I was impressed that you were able to cut the end of the chisel off straight and add a bevel. This was great to watch. Thanks for sharing this.
My family raised tobacco and we used a dribbler to help plant tobacco when the setter missed a spot in the row. Also used it when we planted the vegetable garden. I would use the Detecolite as a wall hanger decoration
I really enjoy a good chisel clean up. You can find so many great quality ones for next to nothing but abused. They tak me for ever to, I spend hours sharpening them on the diamond stones.. I actually do go over the back. I've been told the back should be flattend and polished to get a much sharper edge. I was het nder the impression it helped a bit.
The dibbler turned out great. I love old tools with patent dates. I have my fathers old eagle tester and can remember being issued one when I first was employed at ConEd. Keep the Eagle sales board together. It rates high on the cool scale. 👍🏻😀🇺🇲
Good video. I went to the Brooklyn Swap meet on Saturday and was shocked. Usually there was under 100 dealers. Saturday there was over 300 dealers. I bought a bunch of stuff and went back on Sunday with my trailer to get a tractor, some engines, and a drill press. You showed several saw tooth sets. I was talking to a guy who bought a saw vise but didn't know what it was. Please consider doing a segment on hand saw sharpening if you hadn't done one in the past 4 years. It was one of the early lessons that I got when starting my carpentry apprenticeship(never finished). I still have one of those Eager Testers from the 1970s. I think that it was a dollar at the PX. Good Luck, Rick
@@ScoutCrafter You're not the only one. That's why I usually say its in Brooklyn, CT. Saturday was a gorgeous day weather wise and it almost looked as busy as Zagray. I was talking to the President of the Brooklyn Fairgrounds and he was overwhelmed by the attendance. He was the one that I bought the old tractor from. Sunday wasn't nearly as busy but I was just picking up the tractor and some other things that I couldn't live without. That was my last swap meet for this year. I only got to go to the 4 at Brooklyn because it is only about 8 miles from my house. Good Luck, Rick
I really like the Detecto-Lite sale display! I think it would be neat if you hook them all up and have an electronic flasher that would slowly randomly blink them on and off!
Who'd have known the Eagle Detecto Light was collectable? Not me. I've got more than one, not even sure how many. One in my electrical drawer of rollaway at the home shop/garage/mess, and for sure one in my truck tool box that I have with me. Still use them often. That display card was just too cool!
I think those dibblers were mostly used for bulbs and some used them for onion sets and seed potatoes. I have at least one of those Eagle testers. As to the card you know You want the whole display as a unit and it will grow in more value. There was a sheath knife on that last table that I think was an old army knife but I only caught a glimpse of it.
Nice show, ScoutCrafter. The dibbler is a neat tool. A lot of nice tools at the tool meet. The chisel needs to be hollow ground and the back polished on a stone.then put the bevel edge on a stone and you will have a very sharp tool. Should you decide to cut wood. The full Detecto-lite display is one you won't see often. Always enjoy your show.
Wow so many interesting things in one video! The antique dibbler looks so cool you just want to pick it up. Bet it feels nice in the hand. Excellent work on the chisel, you would never know. And the lathe in the trunk looked so nice. Thanks for the show.
I was in Harbor Freight last week and saw that they are now carrying Tub-O-Towels so i just had to pick some up.......thanks a lot John😂 they are absolutely awesome!
Tool meet videos are the greatest, get to see all the stuff we’re missing…Dibbler would be a “labor intensive” tool for sure, the ones I’ve seen are usually hollow and would probably do well in a tilled garden. Chisels would sit in my toolbox unused, but if they have nice colorful acetate handles then sure. The Eagle “Detecto” has to be one of the top ten most reliable devices, ever! The one my father had works no matter what, it has been in drawers, glove boxes, tool bags, desk drawers, and long forgotten; last time it was used was like the first time, a nice soft glow. Eagle electric made the best plugs and edison sockets, I’d buy a junked lamp just to have a spare. The buying public needs to demand better than we have today. Wonderful video!
My grandparents ran a nursery back in the 70's. I spent many hours using a dibble while transplanting vegetable and flower seedlings . I still have them, brings back great memories.
That Decto-Lite card would look great put in a deep glazed box frame and displayed, it would keep it safe too. I bet you find all sorts of frames at the Poorman's Fleamarket?
I recognized the dibbler. We have a couple. I have not seen all metal dibblers before. The ones we have and I have seen have metal "spike" with wooden handle, normally a T shaped handle. A tool for the ages. Nice job on the chisel. That had a VERY bad life to get such large chunks broken off. Dave.
That chisel made me feel better about some I just picked up and refurbished. I thought they were in bad shape. They were nothing compared to the one here though. I think whoever was using Scout's chisel must have been using it for masonry. Break those rocks! Some people really shouldn't touch tools.
Nice save on the wood chisel, I like the way you got it to finish out. Thanks for the show tour, fun to look at all the toys on tables, good stuff. Those Eagle test lights on the card, leave them, be a cool display item at a show, they sure are simple and that makes them reliable in my book. As Magdad would probably say, “ the pokey thing cleaned up well” 😊😂😂, I like the fact you left it unpainted, looks great. Thanks for the video, enjoyed watching.
You did a fantastic job on the chisel John! The dibbler turn turned out great also. Thank You for sharing the video of the show also. Make it a great day 😃
The old marketing displays are so neat. The internet and Amazon has pretty much done away the need for neat displays so keeping it as a full display is a wise choice, in my opinion. Great stuff. Cheers
weather is changing in "Freeattle", we in the 50's with rain, snow they say may come down to pass height of 3,000'...fantastic reprofile job on the chisel, thxs for sharing
I like the Dibbler, it turned out nice. I’ll have to look through my electrical tools to see if mine is an eagle. I have a chisel that was given to me. If I remember, it was made in England. The handle is made of aluminum. The blade is just about used up. Like you I cleaned, polished and sharpened it. It is a very useful tool to have handy. Thank You
In order to make a wood chisel really sharp you have to, "flatten the back" of them. Which amounts to lapping and polishing it. So I was surprised to hear that you don't think it should be touched. You're not supposed to have a bevel on the back. But the back is half of the edge. Getting the back of a chisel flat is often a pretty labor intensive task let's say.
A carded full set of the Detecto-lite are very nice. I can't believe the display card is in that good of condition... I am glad we don't have meets close to me or I would be in trouble.😂
I have never seen a dibble before. I use a pointed stick to make the holes for the garlic. I think the more sooth shape of the dibble would work better. I am gonna keep an eye out for one of these now! 😊😊
Thanks for the Long Island meet tour, the Dibbler looks great. You surprised me with the chisel, I thought that you were going to angle the sides and make a shorter cut off. I hope that you keep all 8 testers on the card.
I always like a good field trip! Great job on the chisel! The detecto lights are super neat, love the vintage stock card they're mounted on. Have a great week and see you Wednesday.
Nice dibbler job. I was hoping you would polish it and not paint. Being a chisel guy myself, what you did by cutting the tip off is all a person can do to make it functional again. However, the back is as important as the edge. The first thing you do to a new chisel, even expensive ones, is check the back for absolute flatness. If it has high or low sections or waves near the cutting edge, flattening the back is the first order of business. Of course, high quality Japanese chisels are the exception and much easier to maintain due to their hollowing out of the spine area of the back. Thanks.
Admit it Scout, your not going to sell those Eagle DetectoLites. How cool is it to have a whole card of them. Very nice job on the chisel but the dibbler gets my vote. Cheers Stuart 🇦🇺
Nice clean up on the tools. I liked that chisel! Looks great! I hope you keep that Eagle Detecto-Lite display just the way it is, completely filled up. What a nice catch that is.

Great video 👍 Great video of the Long Island Tool 🧰 Meet 👍. What a nice looking vintage Fender Stratocaster 🎸🔥👍. Great restoration of the antique Dibbler, Bulb 🌱 planter . I kinda like the polished look of it , the lettering does pop with that polished look . I think if you decide to paint the handle black and leave the lettering with a polish look, I think that would look awesome also. Great job with the challenge of Reprofiling the KC pro wood 🪵 chisel. Now it makes a great tool for scraping, again great job👍. What A fantastic deal you got on the whole display of Eagle 🦅 Detecto-Lites . W👀W! N.O.S. I’m guessing that it is due to the acetone evaporating, but I might need to start storing my 50/50 in an oil can instead. If anyone else can let me know how you store your 50/50, I’d appreciate it!
Yes! We’ve been looking for a good storage vessel for the 50/50 but yet to find one- The 50/50 acetone is the issue as it will melt many plastics. My Zep container is also deformed. 🫣😂
I repurposed a pesticide green spray bottle with the tip that closes. The number in the triangle is 2. I only fill it half way and have not had any issues

What a great show. The chisel and dibbler came out spectacular! I wish we had market/shows in my area like you all have!
