- Join me on a road trip to the far north of Scotland for a hike up the Queen of the Scottish Mountains; Ben Loyal, an isolated and distinctive mountain on the north coast. Later on I do a short section of the NC500 route, stopping in at Moine House and an iron age broch before meeting up with hiking buddies; Kevin & Stephen for a roadside camp in the shadow of Ben Hope.

That area of Scotland is stunning Robin. Ben Loyal is on my never ending list of hills to visit in Scotland after doing Ben Hope. Doing well with the Corbetts👍 Nice to see Kevin hitting the 200 Munros too.
Cheers Gaz, I love it up there but it feels like a mission to get there. Good we help each other with Corbetts/Munros too.
To have done all that on a two day hangover, very impressive! 😄 Hopefully you've since sobered up, Robin and will be back out again. Lovely to see a part of Scotland so far to the north. All the best.
Cheers Olly, actually took 3-4 days to feel normal again. I’m usually quite disciplined when having a drink or two.
Hi Robin, what a wonderful looking looking Hill Ben Loyal is. Looked a steep pull up. Great to see you out with the lads.
All the best mate
Dave ⛰🥾😀🏴
The mountain profile from the north is rather nice but aye a steep pull up.👌🏻
Beautiful video. Thanks for sharing. 👍144
Many thanks! 🤩
See the horse was impressed with your bad jokes! 😂😉🙉
Old is gold Nicola 🐴 😜
Nice one. I’m glad to see plenty of camping options on the ridge as this one’s been on my list for a while 🙂
Pitch at the summit too if the weather allows.
Well done, mate. One heck of an achievement given the distance you had to travel to get there. Hope the bottle of whisky is safely tucked away. Excellent vlog.
Haha, aye. Whisky is away in storage. 🥃
I’ve been up Loyal twice but both times had a complete white out on the summit. Third time lucky for a view🤞good Video Robin.
Cheers 😎 It must get a lot of fronts coming in, being up on the north coast. Great area.
So many great walks to look forward to! I've seen this one from other summits and it always looks fabulous. And I love a good scramble.
Cheers Natalie, already planning my return later this month maybe. It’s an awfy long drive though 😆
@@WalkWithWallace Funnily enough I just got back from Ullapool last night - it took me 8 hours to drive back to North Ayrshire in rush hour traffic, including a 20-min sleep in the car at Tyndrum! Felt more shattered from the drive than from the walks I did. Seriously thinking of going by train to Inverness and then renting a car next time.
8 hours, that’s a shift. 😤 sounds good on paper but the cost wouldn’t be viable unless you book the train well in advance.
Absolutely stunning! I need to get up to the Highlands soon 😍
Cheers Dave. 😎👍🏻
Great video bud. Top weekend away. Looks a cracking Corbett. You can pitch on it for your 2nd round of Corbetts wi me. 😉 Looked a good viewpoint for Loyal & Hope. Pity the clag came in eh 😏 Hodit & Dodit 😂
Cheers Kev, second round 😂😂😂
Looks tough going, especially with a hangover 😂 but beautiful views.
Haha, never good is it 🥴
Nice one Robin. I've been meaning to go up there. Passed just south of there on a bike on Saturday and saw it from multiple angles.
It’s got a fine profile when walking in from Tongue, very distinctive.
Great video Robin. Looked like a crackin' trip!
Cheers Euan. 😎
Nice one Robin.Ben Loyal looks a good one that I probably should have done when i was up that far.😀👍
Just watched Stevie's Klibreck vid before this🤣 and well done Kev on ur 200th.😃👏👏
Cheers Andy pal

Cheers Andy. So much to do up there. You’re spoilt for choice. 😎
Nice 1 Robin. Bloody hate them tics, had about 6 on mu legs after fisherfeilds. That looks a very impressive mountain mate well done with the hangover 👏 26 to go, nice 1 😊
Awful mate, I took ticks home on the tent, had to shake it out in the street. Off the bevvy annaw 😂
Top work again! 👍. I hate ticks!
One just came off my tent just now 😬
Great mountain I did Loyal back in February this year found the approach walk hard work it was very wet and boggy. Great views it was blowing a gale when i reached the summit so I didn’t reach the south top but did the others it was very airy in places an interesting mountain. I enjoyed the video as usual excellent mate I want to return to do Ben Hee soon take care.
Cheers Andrew, I did a bog dance on the way back, got covered in mud 🤪 apart from that it is a fine mountain.
Cracking mate. 👍
Cheers Davie 😎
Top vid Robin. Enjoy watching your trips with your side kick Kev. Hopefully I will get into this wild camping malarkey soon. 🤣 cheers and ATB Andrew
Cheers Andrew, definitely give it a shot. Can be addictive though. 😃
Brilliant video Robin😍👍..Looked a great mountain to do 😍👌🏻..It’s murder at times trying to find a camp spot 😂..Lump McLumpy terrain is murder 🙈.Summit to Eat Macaroni is the Bizzo 😁..Class vlog as usual mate.

Murchie
Cheers Murchio, aye the bit at the foot of Ben Hope was okay in the end. Couldn’t find anything else. Agree about STE mac cheese.
Nice pal love it ♥
Cheers bud 😎
Was planning on that one and a few others in the far north this week unfortunately my wife broke her arm so I have to nurse her!! Great video as always Robin
Ouch, speedy recovery for your missus.
Ah, being hungover in the hills, been their, done that, got the T-shirt 😵💫
😂 It used to be on the old meets where we booked a whole hostel for sole use for our group, they’d be a few sore heads in the morning. 🥴
What a beautiful opening man, this adventure was simply breathtaking! Bravo 👏
Thank you very much!
Riveting stuff
Cheers Tony.
That poor deer. Didn’t know they had drive by’s in the far north 😂
🤣🤣🤣 took a few hits eh.
stevie said in his own vlog that he was hooking up with you Robin. I didn't think you would do one from the other side but here you are. Good going too - bog - plane crash and a summit before the boys. Highlight besides the hook up was that-water bowl. Awesome. Mark
Hey Mark, yeah we all had different hills to bag but the summit camp we had planned together didn’t materialise as we knew that the cloud was coming. Those natural basins are really cool. Weird how many of them are almost perfect circles.
@@WalkWithWallace It sounded like a nice little hook up though of friends. As for the bowls - yeah circles are everywhere - odd that. Have a great day.
@@WyeExplorer you too Mark
@@WalkWithWallace It's been Good Robin. Thanks.
Great trip Robin! Not sure if I would have gone down to meet Stevie and Kev for a wild camp, probably would have stayed on top of it! 😂
Yeah soon you are done with the Corbetts as well, guess the Fiona’s (Grahams) are next!? 😂😂😂
Absolutely not doing the Grahams 👊🏻🤣
The original plan was all of us to camp on Hope, alas knew the clag was rolling in, so I got covered in ticks instead 😖
@@WalkWithWallace 😂 yeah saw your tick picture on instagram, hopefully no more to be found 🤞
@@StripeyHatGuy 2 in total. 😪
Nice one Robin , a cracking trip, all be it we were alll seperated ...Ben Loyal looks a mission ..goood vid buddy ..Stevie
Cheers Stevie, roll on the next one. 😎
Another one I’ve done along with Ben klibreck, and Ben Hope with the sad plane wreckage is that the one near Inchnadamph aye there’s a huge drop at that cliff.does the old fella still live in the wee Croft as you start heading up 🤔.I nearly bought a ruined Croft on the outskirts of Tongue 5 Burns cottage stunning views nothing but Ben loyal in front of it.👍
That would be mint place to live, love the profile of Ben Loyal and it doesn’t look like the NC500ers venture down to the car park either.
Now that looked more 'moory' than I was expecting Robin. I remember an old pal of mine telling me that Ben Loyal looks better than it walks! Would you call that a fair appraisal? Great area in general up there though. Cheers, Chris
Yes and no, whilst the plateau was pretty flat, you can spend more time exploring all the various tops and crags. If it wasn’t as hazy, I would have spent more time exploring the tops.
Its not that often that I see you out of breath climbing a hill , must have been steep or the whisky was still in your blood draining your energy 😅 . Glad you made it and got over your vertigo to achieve your goal ! Thanks for sharing Robin !
Cheers Bon 😊 Definitely a bit of both, still finding my summer legs too.
