Dear Ms. Rain Country - My name is Laura (Stephen's wife) and I am 40 years old. I have been following your videos on TH-cam for about a year now. I don't want to make this a long comment - I know you are very busy - but I am compelled by the Holy Spirit to share with you how much you mean to me. My husband and I were raised by our parents who were drug addicts and alcoholics for the majority of our life. We were taught very little about being self-sufficient in even the most basic of areas. We both found the Lord Jesus Christ about 2 years ago and became born-again, shortly after marrying. During our journey with the Lord, He has led us to your channel. Some of the things that the Lord wanted me to learn about being a godly woman have come from your channel. I cannot express to you with words (therefore I will simply continue to give thanks to the Lord for you) about how thankful I am for what you are teaching me! I am not deceived in thinking you are perfect or even a perfect example of a godly woman. However, the Lord is using you to help shape me into the likeness of Jesus. Please do not grow weary of doing these videos no matter what tribulations or opposition may come! The Lord is using you more than you may realize. (My husband is also growing when he watches the videos of both you and your husband.) I want to leave you with a scripture that comes to my mind when I think of you - I am sure you are familiar with it. May this scripture encourage you and may the Lord bless you as you continue to live your life as a living sacrifice unto Him! I love you in the name of Jesus Christ, dear sister!

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  6 ปีที่แล้ว +44

Thank you so much for this! It seems the Lord always brings someone just in time to say such words when I need to hear them. Yes, I have times I grow weary or feel I am not reaching people the way I should. I have dark days that make me want to throw in the towel - though I DO love what I do here. I still often question if I am doing what God wants me to do. So this was timely and needed. Also thank you for the scripture, it is one of my very favorites and one I strive to live by.
What a blessing this was and words cannot express how much this means to me!

Hi Heidi, What a wonderful video. I loved hearing about all the uses of your vinegars. You are truly the expert!! I love adding vinegar to my pie crusts. I call it my insurance policy because it seems that even if I over work the dough, it comes out great!! And yes, homemade bread is all the better by adding vinegar but you really opened my eyes when you mentioned biscuits and pancakes...I never thought of that!! Thank you!! And I have to share, that my hair looks so much better using a vinegar rinse...Thank you for sharing about that!! Love, Mary ❤️😘❤️

I have a Scoby on my apple cider vinegar that I started from kombuchi. I've been using it to seal the apples from floating above the liquid for almost a year now. I've had to thin it because it was about 2" thick. Stay cool, it's been over 100 in Texas for several days.

I’m so excited you put this video out. I made some blueberry vinegar a few months ago after watching how you did it. I stuck it in the back of the refrigerator and forgot about it till last weekend. I used it when I harvested Armenian cucumbers and made a tasty cucumber pickle with onions, garlic, and bell peppers. Everyone loves it 💕

Stimulating video, thank you. I love the different colors of the vinegars and the fruit combinations used. It reminds me of my friend and I making what we called an "invention", as teenagers, when going on a picnic: we mixed orange juice and sweet lime juice, and called it "juto", a short form of our combined nicknames. Though simple, we were inordinately proud of it :)

Hi there Rain Country:) Started watching u in Spring of 2020. Love ur videos. I have already taken ur vinegar advice and made a few but this year I'm really, really using ur advice since I have ur knowledge AND a ton of fruit coming out of my gardens this year. Been using it mostly for cleaning but planning on trying some in my bath and hair. Just picked my biggest harvest of lavender leaves and my 4 seasonal cuttings of regular mint.. thinking of trying an herbal vinegar. Been making wines just as long as vinegars too. Thank u for taking the time to teach us good homesteading stuff. Very appreciative.:) from Sandy at Bumpy Ground Homestead in Homer, Mi.

Yes, but the wall directly in front of me when I am standing at the counter would not work to build on due to the pocket door on the other side. Free standing shelves, maybe but I do not want anything like that there as it would take up too much space. I need to keep that space for ferments and for work space

@@RainCountryHomestead i agree with your methods for space savers. I have a small area and shelves for the mason jars are visible open to see everything, works well for me .💞🇨🇦

Have you ever made vinegar using wisteria flowers. The color is so gorgeous that I thought it would make a really pretty vinegar even if I only use it for my hair.

Hello, I Love all your information. and so happy Mary Nest referred me to your blog. I just started my scrap strawberry vinegar as recommended from Mary at Mary's Nest. She gave you credit for the recipe. I was so excited and shared the picture and my intents with my older sister.
She question me "are you not worried about the toxins in strawberry leaves and tops"? Would you kindly shed some light on the subject.
    Much appreciated!

Is there an easy way to determine the strength of DIY vinegar? OK, you covered that about (15:00). THANKS.
BTW- here in South Texas, Terry adds vinegar to the goat pen water tubs to keep algae down. It works and the goats love it.

Good to know I have started ACV in chickens water and I see less mozzi larvae by the time I need to empty water and am hoping for less algae.

Hi ya Heidi! This IS very helpful! I appreciate u for giving me this link (u won’t remember doing it cause it’s been a week or two ago, I’m just now watching it) due to having a 3’ tall fridge, I will only be able to make 1 quart at a time, and that’s okay, I have a mulberry tree, unfortunately it’s not sweet as others claim theirs to be, but will try it, and though it’s not sweet AND I now have a dehydrator, I’ll dry them 😃, I have a pair tree as well. Maybe I’ll even try with my red bud tree to, ohh Heidi, this is gonna be sooo much fun, I just wished they didn’t have to be refrigerated. Thank u

You do not need to keep your vinegars in the fridge, I never do with mine, so you can make as much as you want if you have other areas to store it

Rain Country Hello Heidi! What areas would u suggest I store the vinegars, I have the whole house to myself, I don’t know if temperature is a concern, Oklahoma gets really hot n summer. Thank u

LOL "darn I forgot what this one is", this sound so much like me. I have been dehydrating everyday, I do try to limit to two things a day, but yesterday I had not jar one from the day before and I couldn't remember what it was. I had to think about it a minute but remembered it was blackberry leaves. At my age now, if I don't label everything from one day to the next I forget. Thanks for sharing the vinegar video, it answered a lot of my questions. You and Mr Rain have a blessed Independence Day🇺🇸

Know all that junk mail you get? Take the parts with blank spots- even small ones & save those bits. Only takes a minute more than direct trash toss. Use those as labels. Put on top of jar with ( on top if the paper ) one of those "stones" from mancala or the glass stones for in aquariums or vases ...or use small rocks from yard that you've cleaned with...your vinegar lol. Then when place in permanent bottle attach to a string around bottle neck ( or make a fancy label at that point). Or keep a pocket notebook. It's what I have to do.

Edie Boudreau thank you Edie, that is great idea. It's amazing what the aging process takes away from you. My son tells me Mom I worry about you, because I am forgetful, I told him I worry about me too, LOL. Not so much about me personally, but what I will mess up with the forgetting. Hope your having a good day, blessings

TennesseeGirl I know about forgetting due to brain issues concussions & TIAs. So I've had to figure out what works for me even if others don't understand. But I can't Not share if it might help someone else. You're very welcome. Oh. And my last 3 teenagers think I'm a lost cause too. Pretty sure it's just that kids have no reference. I know I didn't. Aging is also always a factor. Be blessed.

Edie Boudreau that is very sweet of you to offer help to others, so many in this day we live are all about themselves. I am a baby boomer, grew up believing in lending a helping hand to those in need, I appreciate your comments and help

TennesseeGirl I too am babyboomer and have grown up learning that helping is important. Sometimes it's equally important to allow others to help as well. After all... We all need to feel we are worthy of help & capable of helping others as well.

In SOME of my newer videos if I have taken time to actually take notes on recipes I create on the spot, I do try to remember to type them up but most things I just make up as I go which is the reason why I started youtube was to SHOW people what I do since I rarely follow any specific recipe

I've used acv diluted for years as a rinse on my hair. Do you dilute your vinegar or use it straight? I'm encouraged to try to make my own vinegar to take care of my hair and look forward to your response. I enjoy your videos, knowledge, and feel like you're the big sister I never had. I have got several vinegars going at once. This is my first time making vinegars so it probably wasn't a smart idea. I have pineapple banana grape strawberry apple mango banana watermelon and I think that's all. Most all of them are fizzy when I stir them, which I stir them everyday as I have been instructed to do. They are in Mason jars with a coffee filter with the date and the fruit listed on the coffee filter and a mason ring around the top. I am trying so hard to get my best life going by living better and doing better for myself and my husband. These vinegars stink so bad that the whole house smells bad lol I say lol but it's not really lol there are gnats and flies all over my kitchen and none of my vinegars have a scoby. I don't know if I'm stirring them too much They are all over a month old and I have followed the directions to a t. Can someone please let me know that I am doing a good job and that everything is okay. Or that if there are flies and that's everywhere I should just give up. I have all of the jars in my pantry on a shelf where it is dark. I have tried to follow all of the directions I have been given. also where can I buy those plastic lids once my vinegars are done? When will I know that they are done? Some of the older ones I have already removed the fruit from.
