Backing Portos, my Wild Kaimanawa Stallion!

  • This backing stage is always pretty casual and straightforward. We like to start them bareback and in a halter, as we believe it creates more feel and is less overwhelming for the horse. Once they can be sat on and are used to bearing the weight of the rider we then begin forward steps and then transition them into a saddle and bridle.
    Starting a horse should only be done by a professional as a bad start can affect a horse for the rest of its life, but we wanted to share with you our process. After this session, Portos had another ride where he had his first trot, and then the next ride Amanda took him over the farm bareback and in a halter and had her first canter which went so well.

    i love you girls and your horses so much if you remember kelly and vicki i came and saw you girls at your farm with stand and another girl came with me.i was pretty small then and i got to sit on vickis horse not sure what one.
