My dad got one from the Nickey dealership in Chicago. 69 SS 396 Kelly green...and that is the exact hood on it. First car I ever drove.
Cowl induction high rise hood came later.
For the record... there was a different hood louver but I've only seen them on 327 67's.

the thing with 1969 camaros, everyone thinks they are a expert on them. People forget, the run was so long that so many things changed thru the long time they were made. They only remember a small time frame of the long production time and are assuming everything stayed as was, for the time frame they remember.

The SS 350 hoods had the hood fin accents. The big blocks had the hood stacks. The small blocks had the hood fin accents making actually 4 different hoods.

Coincidentally I learned about ss hoods yesterday. Didn't know about the cowl hood tho.
Vertical louvers were 68 if I heard right.
I need to know what era hood clears a 454 air cleaner

You are 100% correct the louvered hood was standard equipped on all 1st gen SS Camaros in 1969 you could get the ZL2 "cowl induction" hood which was an option on any Camaro !

mine had pins on a plain hood. it looked clean and stock to me this was in 71. I bought it used. it was an ss 396 4 speed Daytona yellow black vinyl top . so you are saying it was a custom hood.

I’d take it even without a hood. If I built my own this would be it.

I just purchased a 1969 z-28 today and it has the same hood, I don't know if it belongs there or not

There is actually 2 different louvered hoods. The big block SS hood has 4 sections in each louver. The small block SS had 3 sections on each louver. There was also an under hood cowl induction option for 67-69 Z28s that drew air from the passenger side cowl. Had a 69 Z that I put the super scoop and sealing air cleaner on.

@@hansjensen7823 I worked for a Chevrolet parts dept. in the 70s. I still have an old Camaro parts catalogue. I have all the Chevrolet specs and modifications done to the Z28s that was submitted to SCCA. I know 1st gen Camaros.

That’s a 69 rs / ss hence the hidden headlights RS and the hood represents the SS

Had a 69 z/28 with a flat hood. Is that why or did z/28's always have a cowl hood ?

    • @bluesmoke218

@@danielhackleman2140not every z28 came with the cowl hood. I think the early build ones didn’t have one.
