One night in Key West, as I sat in an ice cream parlar, in the early '70's a van pulled into the parking lot. A lady stepped out and walked into the shop. Low and behold...Linda Ronstadt! The emblem on the van...Stone Pony's. A night I will always remember.
We all wish Linda Ronstadt the best as she deals with health issues and we are reminded of how special her gift was. These recordings have captured her unique voice for ever ...
I heard her sing without a microphone in a family wedding, when she sang a Mexican song along with this wonderful mariachi band. This was around 1989 or so, and she was in peak vocal form. She filled the entire room with her gorgeous voice, and she sounded even better than on recordings. Fabulous lady, fabulous voice, fabulous talent.
Great singers don't really need a microphone, just in order to fill a normal sized room. That is, if they are truly great vocalists, like Linda is. Nor do they need all of the studio gimmicks to make them sound good. I knew a young lady who would stop people in their tracks when she sang, and she was able to do so even at an outdoors concert, with no mic or acoustics to help. Too bad she wasn't interested in being a professional singer. But man, she was awesome. That's what's called TALLENT!
For anyone who ever wondered how this song went from Dolly's low-key gentle version, to Whitneys full-on belting version . . . Linda's version was the bridge between them and also the inspiration for the Whitney arrangement ❤
@sunflower7045 Yes, I never heard Linda's version and this was my first thought also ~ I've always loved her voice and of course, coming from the 60's her voice imo stood out, I will say Whitney's voice is so versatile (too bad she was put down with her pop sound) her voice - just gorgeous. Dolly as they say with country music certainly has that story telling phrasing ~ love all 3 of these women & singing 💗💖💓
Kevin Costner suggested to Whitney Houston that she sing this song for the film "The Bodyguard". He had previously heard Linda Ronstadt's version of the song.
Wow!! Hands down - this is my favorite version!! What an amazing voice!! I feel awful she lost it. I admire her strength, she doesn’t dwell on her illness. She said she loves to listen to new artists. What an amazing woman. Love you, Linda! 💕💕💕
You're right about her capabilities. She's released several Spanish albums. One is for Mexican traditional Mariachi music. Beyond that, she's done duets with Aaron Neville, Don Henley, Emmylou Harris and more.
This is one my favorite song like Wow, this is beautiful, her voice is magical it touches my soul Takes me back to the good old days Tell me what do you admire most about her?.
My favorite rendition. Flawless and tender. Ronstadt's voice was so heartbreakingly beautiful it can almost bring on too much sorrow. Thank you Dolly for the tune and Whitney, wish life had treated you better.
I have always praised Karen Carpenter as being my personal pick for favorite female singing artists of all time...Well move over Ms.Carpenter,Linda Ronstadt is right behind you... Brilliant just brilliant...
Ronstadt’s instrument is so gorgeous and so versatile, so many colors, and she uses it with so much intelligence. I have many of her recordings, and am amazed at how committed she was vocally when approaching different kinds or genres of music. She’s absolutely one of a kind, ‘sui generis’! Ronstadt has left us such a wealth of material to enjoy, and I thank her with all my heart for that!
In that time of life when acknowledging all that have seen, heard, and felt over the years, I have always loved listening to Ms Ronstadt, somewhere along the line I figured out how beautiful she was, and how much her voice would melt my heart. As the years have gone by, I often return to her music to help me through problems in my life, right now it is her and Aaron Neville that sings what I can’t say, and once again I’m thankful for her. I still love her voice, and even today, her beauty shines through no matter what age and health has done to her looks, to me she’ll always be that young, long haired, beautiful woman who’s voice would stop my heart. Linda, so often have you made my life easier, and at times harder knowing what I need to do. Right now you and Aaron are helping me to learn how to express my feelings to someone. If only I had Aaron’s voice, I would already be on the karaoke stage, singing “Don’t know much” to her in hopes she would finally understand. In the meantime, I will listen to you, Carly, Barbara, Olivia, Karen, and the others that sang to the heart and soul, unlike today’s music with no meaning. You all have formed my heart, thought me what life is really about, even when it was out of reach for you. I thank you, keep smiling, you will always be loved by at least me.

I agree. Having access to gems like these lets us go back and listen to a different place in time and for future generations. Beyond that, I think it's rather difficult to compare the two vocalists because their versions have a dissimilar approach. Yet I like both for their differences. Linda's is calm and sweet, while Whitney's is heavy and theatrical, Linda had a powerful voice that didn't sound forced, while Whitney was raised in a musical household, familiar with the chaos while learning to be bold with her God-given talent.
Wonderful version of this beautiful song. This song and her rendition of Roy Orbison’s Blue Bayou send a chill up my spine every time I hear them. I Will Always Love You, Linda.
Dolly and Linda have been good friends for a long time. But Dolly demanded that Whitney add the part that Linda discarded in her version and that's the "I hope life treats you kind" part. To me it's apples and oranges between Whitney's version and Linda's version. I do not fall for the reaganomics divide and conquer.

Linda takes us to places that are out of this world. This is a remarkable version. Pure, raw and simply beautiful. Linda never has vanity in her singing - just honesty and killer pipes - she doesn't need to soar on every note or verse or song - though she has the biggest voice I have ever heard and in concert often raised the roof. Only Ronstadt mixes tenderness, sorrow and strength so effortlessly. Sad we lost her voice but glad their is a Renaissance of appreciation. And her songs and musicians were impeccable and always in tune with her ever changing musical vibe.
So true, clay clown. I am older than Linda, and two things happened to keep me from her. One, I didn't know enough, was a bit of a bigot. Two, I skipped all the greats from Elvis and the Beatles and everybody on down, loving the incomparable Mozart, who for me now reaches ever increasing heavenly heights and power, but, older, I have time for her greatness, too, and even Bach's. Vincent Shaw Flack
Anybody who has heard her live knows she had possibly the most powerful voice in the history of pop music and the most beautiful at the same time. It was such easy power which was why she was always able to keep it beautiful. Her voice sounded like a massive teardrop. "Blue Bayou" is the only cover that Kelly Clarkson shouldn't have done because you just can't compete with this voice.
Linda Ronstadt is what the universe creates when it's showing off. Real, rare and remarkable. The power, heartbreaking tenderness and clarity...whew. Not a false or pretentious note.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Not sure you ever get out of your district When you can make all the world loves a song at the same time and years after years then it means that's the best version If dollys or Linda's were that good, they would been heard
@@MrZachariea1 He's talking about emotion or rendition, not about fame. And Linda's version wins on this point. Whitney's version could be better, but she put her gospel-vocal addicts, that removed the emotion on the lyrics and it seemed that she just wanted to show her range, and not passing a message.
@@MrZachariea1 It's like that, every song deserves a way of singing, and who sings needs to observe that. But who wants to sing on the gospel mood all the time and have those addicts in every song, its better for that singer to just singing gospel and not other rhythms.
@@pedrogomes4491 ahahahahahahahahahaha Say whatever you want, you want change the fact that, whitney version the most loved all over the world. If it was that easy or just to show her range, then everybody can take a song and make it a hit. Another thing is that except in the us and few countries, People dont give shit to country music
@@MrZachariea1 Kkkkkkk. She so just showed her range for pure vanity, that everyone imitates her voice and her addicts on talents' shows, and forget about the lyrics. Country music in other countries is viewed like romantic music, not country especifically. Although, the "gospel spirituals" is that no one gives a shit all over the world. Maybe because its noted like a madness or hysteria.
Linda Ronstadt version of this song is so beautiful and I think she does this song better than anyone that has ever come out with it, her voice stand's out among the rest when she does a song her heart and soul is in it, and you know that's Linda Ronstadt , what a great artist and icon !

She could take a Rock N' Roll Hall of Famer's song and make it her own. Linda performed covers of Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, Smokey Robinson & the Everly Brothers just to name a few. Unless you're as old as I am, sometimes you forget who originally recorded the song, because Linda's version was so great.
Queen of her scene. Great singer - gave the mega celebrity attention the middle finger. Just wanted to sing surrounded by her musical pals. Made us listen, made us feel better, made us care ...
God sometimes blesses people with angelic voices and Linda Ronstadt was one of them...beautiful. I came across this version by accident and I have to say I like it better than the others. And that is saying a lot because the Parton and Houston versions were magnificent.
My first album of her was “ Miss USA”, I was 17 and hi-school kid in Japan. I’m 62 now and living in USA. It may sound cheesy but she was one of the reasons why I’m here. First time listening to her was awe inspiring and made me dream of living in the USA. It’s been 43 years since I moved to the USA and I never regretted. I still listen to her time to time, but I was saddened when I learned she suffered MS, had to retreat from singing. Thanks for the great music and memories still being made.
I am a female (an old fashioned one) so so no melting with the eyes. But, hey, I can acknowledge she was gorgeous to look at but, more importantly she could sing and it is rare for a singer to sing practically every song she sings better than the original but that Linda does.
The Good lord giveth and can taketh away; but I always have her records and they are not for sale....ever! She sings this song so beautifully, it brings tears to my eyes. She is amazing!

Best version of this song by anyone! Linda sang it with such passion and feeling. I love it!
Same here
This song is just so wonderful, still gives me hope for love, this song is the best ever for my dad, what about you?
Согласен что эта версия лучшая по-любому
Wonderful version of this song. Sung gently instead of belted. Bravo
Linda Ronstadt is what the universe creates when it's showing off. Real, rare and remarkable. The power, heartbreaking tenderness and clarity...whew. Not a false or pretentious note.
Linda's version should have been a world hit. Her rendition is so emotional, passionate, full of feelings.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Not sure you ever get out of your district
When you can make all the world loves a song at the same time and years after years then it means that's the best version
If dollys or Linda's were that good, they would been heard
@@MrZachariea1 He's talking about emotion or rendition, not about fame. And Linda's version wins on this point. Whitney's version could be better, but she put her gospel-vocal addicts, that removed the emotion on the lyrics and it seemed that she just wanted to show her range, and not passing a message.
@@MrZachariea1 It's like that, every song deserves a way of singing, and who sings needs to observe that. But who wants to sing on the gospel mood all the time and have those addicts in every song, its better for that singer to just singing gospel and not other rhythms.
@@pedrogomes4491 ahahahahahahahahahaha
Say whatever you want, you want change the fact that, whitney version the most loved all over the world.
It’s always great to hear all the versions of a great songs. By all the great singers. I listened eagerly to all of them.
she possesses that pleading quality in her voice that we all strive for. Pleading for the spirit to be released
Linda, no words to express just how much you’ve brought to this world...beauty, voice, a real majesty. Thank you, and many blessings ever and always.
Hi Olivia, how are you doing?
This is one my favorite song like Wow, this is beautiful, her voice is magical it touches my soul
Takes me back to the good old days
Tell me what do you admire most about her?.🙂🙃
I never thought I would miss the 70s...but I do.
The lord giveth, and you know the rest… thank you for sharing your gift
Dolly Parton, wonderful songwriter. I like all versions I know. However, Linda's version of any song is always special.
She can own any song- probably the greatest female voice of all time!
I am Linda Ronstadt. Hold my cigar.
Great but for me the overall best is Ella Fitzgerald.
Not a contest. Many unique, wonderful voices.
Probably? She the greatest female voice of all time.
Not in the R&B genre
Thank you Linda Ronstadt for being Linda Ronstadt.
I was born in 1992. Watching this from Cape Town, SA and can't help loving the 70s and 80s visuals. Such a Beautiful era
I still have this album! Loved this song for years! Used to cry a lot to it! Now I am alone, just love the music and always will!
To me, this is the definitive cover of this song. Nobody can touch Linda on some songs. Never understood why this is so overlooked.
I am 80 and listening in 2024. Didn’t have a computer when Linda was popular
Linda is still popular!
80 also
This is one of the songs that never fail to make you lovesick. Timeless!
Queen of her scene. Great singer - gave the mega celebrity attention the middle finger. Just wanted to sing surrounded by her musical pals. Made us listen, made us feel better, made us care ...
I love her, she is a very talented singer. Thank you!
God sometimes blesses people with angelic voices and Linda Ronstadt was one of them...beautiful. I came across this version by accident and I have to say I like it better than the others. And that is saying a lot because the Parton and Houston versions were magnificent.
This song is just so wonderful, this song is the best ever for my dad, what about you?
My first album of her was “ Miss USA”, I was 17 and hi-school kid in Japan. I’m 62 now and living in USA. It may sound cheesy but she was one of the reasons why I’m here. First time listening to her was awe inspiring and made me dream of living in the USA. It’s been 43 years since I moved to the USA and I never regretted. I still listen to her time to time, but I was saddened when I learned she suffered MS, had to retreat from singing. Thanks for the great music and memories still being made.
Linda's version ... still the best.
Was released in 75, two years after Dolly's original. What a great validation and interpretation of the song. Beautiful in 75, beautiful today.
Me ❤🏴
Anything Linda Sings is beautiful....
Any song this lady sings, she makes it hers, so much talent and grace, and those incredible eyes, It can melt you!
you know it
I am a female (an old fashioned one) so so no melting with the eyes. But, hey, I can acknowledge she was gorgeous to look at but, more importantly she could sing and it is rare for a singer to sing practically every song she sings better than the original but that Linda does.
Great voice and so pretty!
How can you not love Linda Ronstadt?
She was put on this earth to bring joy...and she does !
Wow! Pure and strong. The best
Linda Ronstadt has one of the most beautiful voices in both country and rock.
And also in Mariachi, in which in my opinion she is even a lot better than in any other genre.
Some say THE most beautiful voice. Have you ever seen her in concert. Just amazing.
I havent, but I wish I had, she has the most beautiful voice, I agree with that.
She had a great classical voice which I think was her favourite.
I know. She retired from her music career in 2011.
That’s a beautiful song. Always loved Linda ..
This version doesn't blast your ears off! Linda just sings a wonderful song with great feeling.
Yes, A, it exudes emotion without being overbearing. It sounds as good today as it did 41 years ago.
Yes...exactly...Whitney's version is obnoxious.
Linda sings this as it was meant to be sung.
Amen
Don't come for Whitney's version.
There will only be one Linda Ronstadt. The sound of her silence is so sad.
I will always love her.
The Good lord giveth and can taketh away; but I always have her records and they are not for sale....ever! She sings this song so beautifully, it brings tears to my eyes. She is amazing!
I'll stick with Karen Carpenter.
William Jordan
It’s a free country 🤷🏽♂️
I hope that there will be a cure in Linda's lifetime so she can sing again ...for her sake...not ours.
This version doesn't blast your ears off! Linda just sings a wonderful song with great feeling.
Linda Ronstadt is a legend. We all miss her voice.
Greatest female singer of all time. How could you not love this woman.
I am always astounded by the "dislikes" on something like this.
Lol im sure the greatest female singer of all time is not white
Beautiful soul makes Linda Ronstadt so moving in everything she sings-classical, Spanish, pop, country, on and on. A goddess of music.
@@terencedavids3836 Of course. It's Whitney.
@@glamsky3257 Whitney is a great singer, no doubt. But Linda has the ability to sing so many genres of music that Whitney can't.
I enjoyed this clip very much. Thanks a lot!
There have been several covers of this song by some beautiful voices, but none have been as beautiful as Linda's version.
I looked it up, over 100 artists have recorded this song.
@@keithdean9149 that's insane!
Lol
Dear Linda Ronstadt, How beautiful are you? Beyond words. I'm thinking of you and your struggles with Parkinson's. You are in my prayers. I've sung along with you thousands of times in my life. What a precious soul you are. I hope you're well today. I love you so much! Best wishes! Peace
I will always love you by Whitney Houston
Linda's version was the first I heard this song. It will always be my favorite.
Amen.
I feel honored to have Linda and Olivia Newton-John as my two top favorites of all time. Both have incredible voices and both so beautiful and gorgeous inside and out. Linda puts so much passion in her songs and you can feel what she's feeling.
Right on in both cases.
Both are my favorite too. Love Olivia and love Linda. Linda's voice is so powerful and versatile that is impossible not to love her interpretations.
Nice song of awesome singing and with sweet sad voice! Bravo, Bravo, Bravo!!! Thank so much.
Thanks for your comment and for being a fan, God bless you.... I text you on here because you're a big fan and you seems to be a very nice person 😍..

Wow. What an amazing version. Can't believe I never heard this before as I've always loved Linda Ronstadt's music.
If her singing doesn't touch your heart - you haven't got one.
Well then i dont have a heart
This is beautiful but I perfer Dolly's
Linda had the best vocal talent of any female singer in the 60s and 70s. I hope our some of our younger generation go and find her songs and appreciate her unique talent.
Linda, you are such a national treasure. We will ALWAYS love you!
