Why this game is awesome: 1. Free league product. 2. Apocalyptic fantasy crawl 3. Low magic, non heroic 4. A hidden world of wonders finally open after some time passed. Tons to discover 5. Lore is awesome. I love dynamic between the rust brothers and raven sisters. 6. Easy for solo with monster matrix and random encounter. 7. Line art. If you look closely a lot of the dates on the art are from older editions. Art is very imaginative and exciting. 8. Probably some stuff I’m forgetting I played through a short adventure scenario I made randomly and had a great time.
0. The game mechanics. With a single dice pool roll, you determine if you hit, if you can do bonus effects, how much damage you inflict, if your gear will get damaged, if you hurt yourself by over-exerting, and if you gain any Willpower points to trigger your profession talents.
@FabienMariauxdeSerres AMEN! My 6 year old loves to ask to play randomly. With other games, I have to have a heads up to prepare. With Forbidden Lands, all I have to do is pull out the map and dice.
Finally! this game needs WAY more attention. I have been playing this in a group and solo for over 2 years. It's probably my favorite game from free league other than the One ring 2E. Super cool you're giving it attention on your platform. Hail!
In case it wasn't mentioned, this box set is a mere $40. Sure, there's a monster manual, three campaign books, cards, and dice you can buy if you desire extras, but if you want to just dive in, that's one helluva deal. I love Free League's products and I've collected everything Forbidden lands has to offer so far (according to rumors, more is coming soon)
The details of the rules are buried ( hidden ) in the middle of a paragraph somewhere. It's a Weapon Skill Based D6 Dice Pool Player Facing Roll. I've noticed a few RPGs seem to purposefully make this critical piece of information hard to skim for and "Influencers" very rarely tell you either. I find that interesting because it's the Number 1 factor in whether or not most people will want to buy the game or not. Agree that the production value is top notch.
Free League does the Same with Vaesen. Its certainly annoying to need some book mark Tags to find certain Rules. But all in all, they are still Solid systems. Just the writers could use a little Help with Layout
Great video, I love the relationship that is between Goblins and Halflings, also the particularities of the Elfs and its gems. I got this box set in spanish, it is beatifull. It is excellent game if you love sandboxing. Also I got the Raven Purge campaign, I highly recomend it, even if you don’t use it completly, it complements the lore that the box set brings. I am currently waiting for the Book of Beast to be translated too.
I bought this box set just before Christmas 2019. Instant fan. I have since gotten everything for FORBIDDEN LANDS. Have never been disappointed in any of the products. And have gotten a ton of other Free League books, all are fantastic. Free League is the best publisher of TTRPGS bar none. 2 Little Mice come in a close second
Very nice! I always wanted to run this, but somehow but my last group split and now I'm running a Swords & Wizardry sandbox. So FL sits patiently on the shelf, often opened in awe and skimmed thoroughly, then put back until its time has come :D But it's very nice as a toolbox for other RPGs until then EDIT: wanted to add, there even is a Dark Sun conversion called Burning Sands, for FL somebody made!
@@Orang3zRPG Dammit, just when I swore off most RPGs because of the crap happening the last eight years...and this system suddenly appears on my radar and I find myself getting ready to empty my wallet. And your mentioning the "Book of Beasts" didn't help either. That's okay, I don't need to spend that money on more games from Steam anyway. LOL!
Huge fan of Vaesen, so I look forward to reading this one. I do like the Year Zero Engine. I still want to get Forbidden Lands, Symbaroum, and Dragonbane. All of them seem to have similar grim settings, but they all seem to have variations on the d20 mechanics.

I would add to #6: it's a fantastic game to improvise on the fly; I have greatly reduced the amount of time spent preparing sessions.

This game is my go-to fantasy RPG. I love how easy it is to sit down and play compared to other rpgs.
This video just talked me into grabbing the box set!
You won't be disappointed. Be prepared to get everything else for FORBIDDEN LANDS

Free League and Forbidden Lands are great. Thank you for sharing your opinions on this great game. ❤

Ohhh that is rad!!! FL Dark Sun mode....nice!!!
Absolutely! Forbidden Lands is a FANTASTIC game.
a perfect example of a Forbidden Lands Rider is prince Ashitaka from Princess Mononoke
great game love the setting and system
Very nice. I might actually get this; I'm always on the hunt for anything that has Random Tables.
I got back into ttrpgs during the pandemic and dont remember hearing about this game. It looks really good! Thanks!
Holy shit! This has an "old school" gaming feel to it. And that's all in one box?
Time to look for this.
Aaaaaannnd, not too long ago they released the "Book of Beasts." (Not included in the OG box set), but definitely a great addition. 🙂

@@kjohnson9306 LOL! Sorry about that! 🤣
Just ordered ultraviolet grasslands second edition now I'm adding this one for my next order!

It's such a good game
If yuou dont like the stronghold rules I recommend using the Mutant Year Zero rules for upgrading The Ark
I'll have to see if my local store has got this. It's a great game. A great video as usual as well!
You rock @raff3486
Good stuff, as usual.
I may never get to Play Forbidden Lands, but by god are the books great inspiration
This looks so great, thanks for the clear review! I just spent money on DCC...gotta stay focused 😅
Boxed set link doesn't work.
Thanks for that. I fixed it. Cheers!
Better this or Dragonbane?
That depends on your flavor. DB is classic fantasy with ducks. FL is grim dark through and through.
@AgranakStudios ok... understand must buy both 😁🤙🇮🇹😎
The Big Box competitor sells you a quarter of the content in a box the rest they sell as air. Who knew air was so expensive.
Seriously!
Normalize volume
YES!!!
