One tip I just remembered my friend showed me when I was doing my bushings!
To help prevent the bushing from squishing every which way and sliding off the narrow jaws of the vice, we put some planks of wood to make a wider and flatter surface, on top of that we used a ziptie on the bushing while pressing it in to prevent it from deforming too much. Once the first lip of the bushings slides in the control arm itself will push the ziptie aside and you can just cut it off after. Hope this helps!
awesome tips, i will considered using a zip tie in the future. thanks
Great video, makes me think, I should be looking at mine. An 88' convertible that's never been touched.
Seeing that you have a hoist and transmission Jack's at your disposal convinces me to have my front bushings on my 1985 C-4 replaced by a Corvette specialty shop near me.
I am blessed to have access to equipment that makes the job easier. It sounds like this video was useful to you, I'm glad.
Great to see a practical C4 project channel Ben - You've encouraged me to check my suspension bushings! Enjoying the content. Thanks.
I too thought there was some space for more c4 content. hope this video helps.
Great videos. I've got the bushings to do on my C4, this really helped boost my confidence in tackling the job. Thanks!
Good luck with the job, glad I could help.
Great video…it may seem obvious those little steps of inserting the bushings…I like how you showed every step…I think I’ll be doing this very thing. Thanks for making this video!
thanks for putting together a really good video, I didn’t have the patience to video when I did mine. I had a heckuva time getting my super pro bushings in and you made it look easy. I did the whole car. It took me most of a weekend.
Great video! Very informative. Flippy huh? Dont flip the Corvette LOL!!
Safety First!
Awesome!! Great video, need to do the same to my 86 corvette. Thanks
Thank you. get it done.
The upper shaft to frame bolts are 37 foot pounds
Looking good!!! Keep it going… race on!
Heck yeah, looking forward to tons of racing.
Excellent, thanks
Glad you liked it!
can you leave a link to the upper and lower bushings i have a 1995 c4 base modle would like to do this job on it and btw great video!!!!
Last summer I put the super pro bushings all around on my '96 LT4. Some were easy it install, and some were ...difficult (now having PTSD)
I have an 89 and from what I've read there should be minimal differences in our suspen setups. I assume you bought your kit from C&S? Asking because I'm having a mind melt of a time finding which one of these bags is the front lower control arm sway bar link bushing. Or if it was even included in the kit.
@ryanle1293 I bought from C&S yes. I'll look at my car later today to see if that bushing was included. It's easy to tell as the bushings are a blue color.
@ryanle1293 yes, after seeing it installed on my car the memories came back of installing it. It's the smallest set of bushings in the set I belive.
@@MrGotenz21 thanks! I've so far categorized them successfully. The only problem was I accidentally put the crush tubes meant for the 24mm bolt all on one side. So now I have to fix that. For the support rods do you remember how you got those in? I for the life of me wasn't able to squeeze them in with the washers, I barely got them in without the washers, I'm debating if they even needed them as the originals didn't have washers for said bushings and now I'm freaking out over it lol
I received no sway bar link bushings in my kit nor did I expect some.
I don’t believe that there is a published spec on the torque for the shaft because it was never intended to be a serviceable piece it was supposed to just be replaced as assembly
That makes sense.
You’re lucky the original bushings weren’t in there because they were a son of a gun to get out, I would also leave the nut on the top of the shaft when you start pressing with a press so you don’t mash up the threaded part. I also put a piece of angle iron between the arms on a assembly to keep from bending, you could see it bending your video
Great tips.
What happened to the Pontiac Solstice?
I still have it, its kin of my DD. I still have some plans for that one and some unfinished footage, ill make a solstice video happen soon.
Great video man keep it up! Would you be interested in selling the car? If so I'm interested. Thanks
Only 5 min more to do the upper ball joints....
Unfortunately resources, time, parts were a lot further out than 5 minutes. Ill have a ball joint specific video up for you in the future,
You’ve never put bushings anything like this on before have u. U don’t don’t destroy anything did u ???????
everything came out good
That’s awesome I have the😢 total bushing kit for the 95 that C n S corvette sells.I also bought the larger rear bushings for the upper rear axle as well. Upper and lower ball joints and inner outer tierod ends as well. Everything is tight again. next are the shocks and drive shaft and half shaft U-Joints.
