This is very amazing playing style. He play as if it is the guiter. Amazing.
The playlstyle is actually called plugging and is often used in jazz. However moreoften with a Bass then with a cello.
I own a cello because of this video.

allegro-howell I just bought one and it arrived yesterday. I'm very excited, took the day to learn the beginning how to's- such as tuning, the bow hold, rosining the bow and getting a feel of it. I'm in awe with it all.

I will!!! I've had a ton of obstacles thrown at me throughout my life and I've overcome them all. I've refocused my energy and have had nothing but success along the way. I've just overcome that monster and now I'm in remission and on a mission to learn this beautiful instrument. Thank you for your encouragement and support.

Does anyone know if universities around the world teach jazz cello? Or at least improvisation for cello?
Filip Dinev I don't know if any universities specifically have an improvising cello program, but I am currently studying cello in a jazz course in Melbourne Australia.
Stephan Braun teaches himself at 2 German Universities in Hannover and Berlin. And he will give a master class in Rutesheim this year again (25.-31.10.2020).

If he does, it's a way.
He has decent technique, with artificial harmonics and different bowings and scales, but i really did not enjoy the sound with the bow, probably just a stylistic thing.
