Great video. In the video you show the Tekno TKR 40007K which are (2) 10.5" strap and (1) 18.5" strap. But the link and the comments below it takes you to the TKR40008K which are (2) 8.5" (1) 16.5" straps. Just want to make sure I will get the right one since there were two different kits referenced. Thanks
Hmm. I didn't realize I put two different things in the video and link. Honestly it'll really just depend on what battery size you have. If you're running a smaller battery the 8K will probably be fine though what I showed in the video is what I was actually using. I'm going to change the link to reflect that. Thanks for pointing it out!
@@DoRC i use the straps on my 4tecs and max also and i sub your channel....yes a great mod im getting one in like 2 months im going to change the spur and gear it for 70 plus mph when i get it
I haven't bashed it yet with this setup but I've used the same straps on a bunch of different trucks and I've never broken one. I'm confident they'll be just fine.
@@RCPropaganda right on. I would suggest getting some high quality straps though. The cheap ones can fail pretty easily and end up destroying a battery or worse.
If you’re running 2 stacked batteries leave the side battery towers attached just take the bar off. This will give extra insurance that your top battery won’t slip out the front or back.
No. Your batteries should not be the limiting factor in how much power output you have. Basically you want the motor to be the limiting factor and then the ESC to deliver whatever the motor needs and then the battery to deliver whatever the ESC needs. Unless the ESC is designed very poorly it should be able to handle whatever power it's rated to flow.
Sorry no I don't. I've only ever run with the modified tray. If you join the Traxxas Sledge group on Facebook and ask on there I'm sure people can help you out. Thanks for watching and if you enjoy my videos a sub to my channel is appreciated!
Where as you can technically run a 4S and a 2S battery I wouldn't recommend it. The batteries you run need to be matched otherwise you will have one battery over discharge before the other one is low enough to hit low voltage cut on the ESC.
There are a bunch of different options for straps you can use. Just look up the length of the straps that you have and then you should be able to find shorter ones on Amazon or ebay. Thanks for watching and a sub is appreciated :-)
They are the 8.5" straps from the tekno kit. They fit my battery just fine but if you're going to go with anything taller you might want to get something longer. Thanks for commenting and a sub is appreciated!
I'm running an SMC 6s 6000. I don't think they offer the exact when I'm running anymore but pretty much anything will fit once you do this mod. Thanks for watching and a sub to my channel is appreciated!
You can run the side by side like traxxas intended with their setup a s this allows for wider packs which will help a lot. Not every combo will work but a heck of a lot more will with this mod than stock. Thanks for commenting and a sub is appreciated!
For my X-MAXX, I replaced the latch system with straps, which works WAY better...but, for the Sledge, I'm going to give the latch system the try it deserves. Unlike the (poorly designed) latch system in the X-MAXX, the Sledge using clips to "lock down" the latches. If be willing to bet that, when (notice, I said "when", not "if") Traxxas releases a V2 X-MAXX (with Wide-MAXX arms, just like the V2 MAXX), it will include an 'updated/upgraded' battery tray latch system w/ clips. However, if the Sledge's my battery tray system ends up not working, thank you, as I'll now know what needs to be done to "correct" it.
Yeah I don't really have any problem with the latch system per se I just don't have any batteries that will fit it and I'm not interested in buying batteries for one specific vehicle. Thanks for watching and a sub is appreciated if you aren't already subscribed :-)
I just bought a sledge and i have one bigger battery 6700 I think do i need two of thoes because my battery only has one cord the Sledge Rc truck has two connectors on it and when i plug in my baterry it wont turn on......even after holding the EZ button for 10 seconds Please help!!!
You dont have to like Traxxas branded lipos, and thats fine. But to call the battery tray "stupid" because Traxxas designed their rc to use their lipos is ignorant. Why wouldnt Traxxas design their new rc to use their branded lipos? Makes no sense NOT to do that from a business perspective.
I don't think that Traxxas doing something that's best for them financially and me thinking it's stupid are mutually exclusive. I absolutely understand why they do it but from a consumer standpoint it's not a good move. This is especially true given that literally every other company out there makes battery trays allow people to use whatever batteries they want. Regardless of their justification from my point of view it sucks and a lot of other people agree given that many many people modify these trays pretty much right out of the box.
I have velcro hold downs on at least a dozen cars right now. Other than ones that had poor quality ones to begin with I've never had an issue with a single one. The trick is to get high quality straps. The ones in the video are high quality. Thanks for watching and a sub is appreciated!
@@onemansvideos2134 yeah some people really like the clip system I've just always been a fan of velcro. Maybe it's just that none of my batteries ever seem to fit those trays. I've never really owned Traxxas batteries so I usually end up converting their trays as soon as I can

Gotta love the proprietary battery tray... Fortunately it's easy enough to mod
Yep. Unfortunately they aren't all that easy to do.
Genius. I will 100% be doing this.
Yeah it's a pretty straightforward mod. Fortunately with the aluminum chassis Traxxas kind of was forced to design it in a way that we could do this

I was hoping someone would make longer pieces that the latch is attached to. How do the straps hold under hard bashing?
