Check out Clearvue. They already have self-sufficient greenhouses made with power-generating windows. Clearvue also plans to expand to self-charging mobile phone screens. Good stuff.

I guess what I wonder is; would it be worthwhile investment to build it the way described to increase effectiveness on a limited space to reach a higher efficiency?
I had a combination of water heater as well as solar cell in mind. This would allow one to combine both into one unit occupying the same space. It would work very well up north either for heating living quarters or powering a stirling generator to further boost output way more than a solar cell could do on it's own.

Why not mylar covered curtains with those. You may not want the sunshine to heat up your place. Mylar window blinds,maybe.
