I'm a white guy, we watched this in the 80s as kids here in Australia, it was so depressing but the actors were great 😅 I got to meet Bern Nadette Stanis who played Thelma a few years ago, she was super cool.
What’s really funny is that most (if not all) the jokes were a mash-up of various actual plots and occurrences from the real Good Times show. Keenan doing Mother Florida’s iconic “damn damn damn!” from James death episode was the best for me.
Ugh, everytime I see the episode where she throws that glass bowl down, because she finally let out her heartache over James dying......I cry like a baby! 😭
Agreed. You don't mess with James. My favorite line from him was, "Mad Dog you don't get your hand out of my wife's face I'm gonna slap a muzzle on you."
Me too! Loved this show growing up. I see a lot of comments of people saying it’s a cultural thing but honestly it’s a generational thing at least in my opinion. My best friend is black and her daughter is 30 years old and does not have any clue as to what the show is about or has even heard of it. I jokingly made a reference to my name is Lenny and my girlfriend laughed pretty hard along with me but her daughter had no idea what we were laughing about we had a show or a clip and even though she’s never seen the show she didn’t think it was as funny as her mother and I did. Really loved the show a lot.
I’ve seen others referencing what type of “audience” watched Good Times and everybody needs to see how that comment is really disrespectful to the show and the actors. It’s saying that Good Times wasn’t good enough to broadly appeal to all everyone, it could only entertain black audiences. How could it have been such a huge hit and still a cultural iconic show if that were the case?
This was spot on,and I'm not even a person who has seen a majority of Good Times episodes. I've gone thru a couple spells in my life when I watched it,and they ARE funny and they nailed it here. This should've gotten way more of a reaction, especially with Janet Jackson reprising her original role.
And I too send out my deepest condolences to the Janet Dubois' family. She killed every episode she was in (that means she did a great job on all her comedic lines) she will be greatly missed ...RIP Ms Dubois' 😪
@Howard the Duck He did have many other animals though(like parrots, elephants, giraffes, chimpanzees...) Michael Jackson used to bring his pet llama everyday to the studio during the recording sessions with Freddie Mercury in 1982. The llama reportedly attacked Freddie Mercury.
"He wanted to C some T & A. I said this is my stop! Then he hit me" :( LOL! This was one of my all time favorite shows but yes they always had bad luck. Damn!
Reminds me of the episode where they found dogfood in the elderly neighbor's trash...and she didn't have a dog. Then she came to a potluck dinner....and brought a meatloaf! My favorite John Amos' (dad) moment. "Aw naw...naw...nawnawnawNAW!"
+RetroGuy76 True, but even more sad, that COULD be said in Chicago in 2018. They need to get rid of their mayor, get more police and clean up the city.

TV will never be the same. Kids will never know the excitement of Saturday Morning Cartoons or Thundercats after school along with The Transformers and G.I. Joe. We had it made and didn't even know it!!
I think it's more of a cultural thing I'm 23 and I've seen most episodes of good times a lot of white ppl probably didn't watch good times but alot of them watched snl
@@kikigam7113 Nah, white people watched Good Times. You watched what was on back then lol
46 test old woman and yes it was a hit! I remember when we found out that penny was Janet jackson.
There's no way they were too young lol. I'm 32 and watched it frequently. More likely it was a whiter audience just not familiar with the show
I'm a white guy, we watched this in the 80s as kids here in Australia, it was so depressing but the actors were great 😅
I got to meet Bern Nadette Stanis who played Thelma a few years ago, she was super cool.
I laughed way too hard at "And then he hit me." It just came out of nowhere so I wasn't ready for it.
and that's EXACTLY why that part was so funny.lol
me too
Nobody had time to prepare 😂😂😂
Kenan went OFF playing Florida Evans! This was too on point!! 😂
Why wasn’t there a HUGE applause when Penny walked in?!? I remember watching this as a child and I felt like this was right on!!!
Generation gap.
That looks like the real Black Jesus painting.
karameldreem right. I swear I had to look over that twice. I think it really is the original
karameldreem yes it is ..it should be famous in a museum or something
karameldreem it is.painted by Ernie Barnes.
Who played on of Sweet Daddy's body guards.
Ross Mark LMFAO 🤣🤣🤣YOU ARE ABSO FUKIN LUTELY RIGHT
You have to have seen episodes of the original show to appreciate how well the SNL cast nailed it.
What’s really funny is that most (if not all) the jokes were a mash-up of various actual plots and occurrences from the real Good Times show. Keenan doing Mother Florida’s iconic “damn damn damn!” from James death episode was the best for me.
Unfortunately there was no parody done here. I think they got an unused script..haha
Well maybe one of the later seasons.
Honestly 😂 so spot on
Yes, I think you're right.
😂😂
Ikr 😂 😂
... and somebody blacked Willona eye!? 😭😂😂 Awww ... they went so hard with this skit. They wrote in a million classic Good Times episodes!
Ye Yo Ra Supreme totally unappreciated by the audience, black Jesus will a buffalo but. Power to the people
3:27 How Florida picked up the food just to throw it down lmao!!!! 😂
Ugh, everytime I see the episode where she throws that glass bowl down, because she finally let out her heartache over James dying......I cry like a baby! 😭
@@faithruckdeschel1294 Me too!
This is one of the best skits I seen in Saturday night live in a long time I could not stop laughing..
Look at Janet with that sweet, pure voice. 😍🌟
" Would this be a bad time to tell y'all I got sickle cell?" LMFAO 🤣😅
Classic! If they only could have had John Amos play James Evans Sr.
When James died.
They ran out of "so called" black people
This is epic! They nailed the characters!
It was a great skit but not appreciated enough
Now THAT deserves an Emmy!!!!
1ring2rule3pigs naw look up the Wayans brothers version. They actually had some of the real characters too and added their own take. Pure comedic gold
I died when Kenan picked up that macroon for the second time just to say “damn, damn, damn” 😭😭😭😭3:25
Penny do you have rats in your bed
Cornbread
They needed James in this skit. "I said I don't want to talk about it."
MisterB2eternity 😂😂🤣
MisterB2eternity lol yes gets mad walks in the room and slam the door..and Florida runs after him .."JAMES"
...classic
😂😂😂😂😂
MisterB2eternity and the guy playing Michael actually could have played James!! He could have done dual roles like Maya!
Agreed. You don't mess with James. My favorite line from him was, "Mad Dog you don't get your hand out of my wife's face I'm gonna slap a muzzle on you."
Wow. Their mannerisms are on point. And pretty good at capturing their tones and cadence of voices
Lmao. This is so accurate. The Evans couldn’t catch a break until the finale episode where everything just magically fell into place.
Exactly!!
Wrong audience. I got every joke.
Lisa McClendon I didn’t get some of the jokes because I never watched the show lol. Plus I wasn’t even born when this episode aired.
Me too and im still tryna figure how they got the actual black jesus picture😂
I’ve seen others referencing what type of “audience” watched Good Times and everybody needs to see how that comment is really disrespectful to the show and the actors.
It’s saying that Good Times wasn’t good enough to broadly appeal to all everyone, it could only entertain black audiences. How could it have been such a huge hit and still a cultural iconic show if that were the case?
@@missingbmore I’m 16 and I got all the jokes. Good times is one of my favorite shows so that’s probably why.
“would this be a bad time to tell y’all i got sickle cell?” YO 😭
His movements were spot on! Jimmy Walker was exactly like that.
This was spot on,and I'm not even a person who has seen a majority of Good Times episodes. I've gone thru a couple spells in my life when I watched it,and they ARE funny and they nailed it here. This should've gotten way more of a reaction, especially with Janet Jackson reprising her original role.
R.I.P. Ja'net Dubois
wit her eternally fine self. rip
And I too send out my deepest condolences to the Janet Dubois' family. She killed every episode she was in (that means she did a great job on all her comedic lines) she will be greatly missed ...RIP Ms Dubois' 😪
She and Esther Rolle were the backbone of that show.
This crowd is weak.
Maya Rudolph sound just like Thelma lmao
donavangreen27 yes
Different type of crowd.... Lol
@@supadupa6891 my thoughts exactly 😂🤣
Yep
supa dupa FACTS!!!
When the audience doesn't understand the references. Smh
I thought it was just me.
Seriously! So disappointing. They have no idea that the sketch is gold.
Speek Geek Unlimited @✌🏾💕💕💕
No freaking idea.
EXXXXXACTLY!!!! The skit went right over their heads! These actors absolutely NAILED IT!!
Oh man, I am 60 years old and remember this show well! Absolutely hilarious and spot on.
Wish they had James Evans though!!
I like how Janet Jackson said that rat was her only friend like Michel Jackson did in Jackson 5
His rat named ben
I see most people didn't get it
@@adrianlozada-reyes268 wait, so he wrote a song for his rat?
@Howard the Duck He did have many other animals though(like parrots, elephants, giraffes, chimpanzees...) Michael Jackson used to bring his pet llama everyday to the studio during the recording sessions with Freddie Mercury in 1982. The llama reportedly attacked Freddie Mercury.
@@gothangotay6489 Is that true that Freddy got attacked by Michael's llama? If so that'd be hilarious 🤣🤣
Wow...they nailed this. I cant believe how well Keenan got her voice down. Anyone who knew this series will appreciate this skit. If not,....
"He wanted to C some T & A. I said this is my stop! Then he hit me" :( LOL! This was one of my all time favorite shows but yes they always had bad luck. Damn!
“Would this be a bad time to tell y’all I got sickle cell!”
Hahaha!!! Hilarious!!!
This is one of my favorite sketches. It's just so perfect
Am I the only one who keeps going back to this SNL sketch of Good Times? This is oddly satisfying :)))))) LOL
Here also
Tripped seeing Janet as her old character Penny.
Reminds me of the episode where they found dogfood in the elderly neighbor's trash...and she didn't have a dog. Then she came to a potluck dinner....and brought a meatloaf! My favorite John Amos' (dad) moment. "Aw naw...naw...nawnawnawNAW!"
pretty much the majority of the skit was based on actual episodes.
😂😂😂 that episode was hilarious
Lmfaooooo
Darius Wilder 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
th-cam.com/video/tO2w6uhTmp8/w-d-xo.html
This is so funny they are all excellent comedians ! I loved it
"We actually didn’t have school today. We ran outta books and my teacher got stabbed" 😂😂😂😂
RetroGuy76 That's BS, it was too extreme for that to possibly be on the show.
@Obito Uchiha If it was, it was almost certainly said by J.J. in jest and not as a real event at a school.
+RetroGuy76 True, but even more sad, that COULD be said in Chicago in 2018. They need to get rid of their mayor, get more police and clean up the city.
They always make fun of black school, but no one make fun of white school, where some kids killed their teachers and classmates and Cary refiles and semi- automatica guns
Wow! One of the best ones SNL did. And Janet as her original character was fire! A+++
RIP Ja'Net Dubois aka Willona you'll always be remembered.
🍃❤🕊❤🍃
I watch this every few months.
It's perfect.
