It's nice that he commits to the rolls but he also never shuts up. He always seems to have to comment on somebody else's descriptions. I think he's so used to being a DM that he has trouble with "main character" syndrome.

Certainty bringing up the rat king is a call back to the very first episode of Acquisition Incorporated, when Binwin Bronzebottom mentioned the rat king.
The attention to detail is astounding - the flickering purplish light, the regularity of the crickets, the strange plant. Your descriptions make the setting come alive.

Love it. I feel like its easier for them to get into the heart-to-hearts in this format. I used to be a big Omelyn shipper, but I feel Evelyn has been giving off major "She's not that into you" vibes for a while now, so I'm really eager to see how these character arcs resolve. Certainty is a great foil for Omin - especially now that he's lost Viari and seemingly abandoned the "be better" promise he made to him.
So I've been away for a while coming back for this season. It's fun watching them realize and freak out at the reminders of their new lower levels. Like Evelyn missing her aura or attacking twice as a 3rd level character or just everyone in general looking at their hp and freaking out

Honestly enjoying the show so far. It really gives the vibes of the original run. The chemistry between characters and the humor with all the different personality is so nice.

I initially came up with a "psyche" of mindflayers, but I looked it up and others refer to them as a cult of mindflayers, where the top two most "alpha" mindflayers are in constant battle for control over the rest of the group!
My vote is a Ganglion of Mind flayers - 1 : a small cystic tumor connected either with a joint membrane or tendon sheath 2 : a mass of nerve tissue containing cell bodies of neurons external to the brain or spinal cord The brain they are external to would be the Elder Brain.

A lot of mentions of Mordenkainen in this series / arc. As Evelyn’s with the group, is there a possibility this is the same version played by Sam Witwer in DCA in the Strahd arc - after all, he was obsessed with Greyhawk standards such as entering rooms with ten foot poles.
Anna continues to be absolutely incredible; Evelyn's purity and honesty in the face of Omin's bald faced lying, punishing him without realizing it, is just a guaranteed laugh every time.
Jerry! Flash idea... You could write a song called "dancing in the madness" (or something 80's metal) combining eldritch horror and incomprehensible possibilities. Maybe Kris can rap the verses in it? Just an idea, love the show. Kudos!!!
As someone who started playing 1st Ed in the 70s as a kid I think there is a difference between players (not just favorite editions). And it's not just nostalgia. In the older editions each player was a part of a unit group value and synergy was always more important than my particular character fantasy. Now it seems like every player wants to be the hero of the story. It strikes me that editions are designed to support this ideal (see Twilight Cleric). I'm not an edition warrior and I have enjoyed them all. I thoroughly enjoyed 4th Ed. I'm not sure that Habro really believes in DnD even now. One thing we have learned is that the path forward (in terms of making money) for them is mass popularity as opposed to just squeezing every nickel they can from the current player base. They made a big mistake by not more effectively harnessing those people who could drive their product(s) to 10x the audience they had. I make my living as a DM and many new players join due to exposure to Critical Role or Stranger Things.
As a wizard, I'm personally offended at how dumb Jim is - and, historically speaking, at how dumb he's always been - but at not how vain, it's understandable for wizards to be vain. (Amazing show!!!)

Every time I watch AI, it fills me with joy. They're how I got into D&D, and I love their whole vibe.
