  • New Zealand never ceases to amaze. In this video we start out from the South end of Lake Taupo, following Highway 41 to its junction with Highway 1 at Tūrangi. From here to Taupo the road is never far from the shores of the lake, a flooded caldera created by a super-volcanic eruption which occurred approximately 26,500 years ago. Lake Taupo is the largest freshwater lake in all of Australasia, draining into the Waikato River (New Zealand's longest river).
We visit Huka Falls, located a few kilometres north of Taupo, where the normally 100m wide Waikato River, is forced through a 20 metre wide gorge losing 20 metres in height from start to finish.
Orakei Korako Geothermal Park is located on the banks of the Waikato River, the park boasts the most active geysers of any geothermal park in New Zealand, up to 23 natural geysers can be active at one time, creating an ever changing landscape. The boiling hot springs and vibrant colours make this a place you’ll never forget, there are native bushwalks through this untouched paradise where the air is filled with sound of native birds.
Finally, no trip to Central North Island would be complete without a visit to Waitomo Glow-worm Caves where we watch our guide feeding monster eels at the entrance of one of the caves.
This video was filmed between 2006 and 2019 on a variety of cameras, some HD, others 4K.

Hello Heinz, the lady's answer doesn't surprise me, there are few places in the world with such varied and beautiful scenery, although for me the countries that once made up the former Yugoslavia would come a close second and it goes without saying that Switzerland would also feature in most travel writers top 5 favorite places. We are lucky to live in such a beautiful world 😊

Tim, thank you for another fascinating and enthralling assembly of shots, sounds and vistas from NZ.
Though I’ve only spent a single week in North Island, that was some years ago, visiting friends & being guided around sights, such as Lake Taupo & the Bay of Plenty. My memories; variously of quiet roads, sulphurous scents, vast vistas & tumbling torrents were brought back strongly with your edited detail, captured in your video.
Thank you for sharing yet another wonderful look back; at times when things were simpler and travel less restricted. Peter

Hi Peter, hopefully it wont be too long before it's safe to travel again. Editing these videos is the nearest I've been to travelling abroad for over a year now, I'm starting to get itchy feet, but there is no way I'd place myself and others at risk by venturing overseas before the government has given the all clear, it may be a while before New Zealand welcomes tourists again. I'm glad these videos rekindle happy memories from your New Zealand adventure. Take care and stay safe. Tim.

Hi Tim! It's indescribable, these beautiful shots. The hot springs suggest volcanic origins. An eel that can be hand-fed and petted. This animal has to have a lot of trust in people, otherwise you won't get that in front of the lens. The picture quality is really great. I hope you enjoyed the holidays. Best regards from Hans from the Mühlviertel. 🍻🇦🇹

      @Timsvideochannel1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hello Hans, the volcanic parks are fascinating, the ground is alive, bubbling, hissing, and so colorful, there is nothing like it the UK. For some reason the eels never return to the Sargasso Sea like they do in other parts of the world, they stay in the rivers where they grow up to 2 metres in length. They get to recognize the people who feed them regularly, such as the tour guides, although it's not a good idea for tourists to feed them, an eel doesn't know the difference between a piece of meat and a finger. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Stay safe. Tim.

I wonder if I should start posting content like this.
Since leaving the ‘warm’ embrace of rail, I spent, until Covid turned up, 4 years tooling around NZ behind the wheel of tour busses. 😬
I love videos like this where I get to play ‘name that spot’ before the captions start. 🤓
As always, stay safe and keep up the good work. 👍

Hello DB, driving tour buses is a great way to see the country. You live in one of the most beautiful places on earth, on top of that there is the volcanic stuff, to someone like myself who lives in a country where there is no volcanic activity, I find it fascinating and a little scary at times, I was on White Island just a few months before it erupted. I am posting these videos because Covid has prevented me from travelling to shoot new footage. As you can see I shot plenty of footage on my 2019 tour which I have combined with video from earlier visits to create a virtual tour of New Zealand, I will be featuring Rotorua next. Sadly these videos don't attract high viewing figures, on the plus side it is wonderful way to re-live my New Zealand experiences, for that reason alone they are worth making. I'm sure you've got some interesting footage, coupled with better local knowledge than I have, it's got to be worth doing. It's always good to hear from you. Take care. Tim.

I know Rotorua well from my childhood BUT for sheer drama, scenery wise, nothing beats driving the road to Milford Sound. As a Kiwi we’re used to all green stuff, bubbling mud, yada yada yada, but driving up the bed of a glacier with 3000’ walls, THROUGH the alpine spine (yeah I know I used to do it for a living using a train no less), and then descending another glacier (3000’ in 8 miles), that’s something most NZer’s haven’t experienced.
Subject change… I once got into a “difference of opinion” with a Waitomo guide on being quiet around glow worms. He failed to believe we had them in some of the North Auckland Line tunnels. Trains passing through didn’t seem to bother them. NaYa. I suspect there’s other rail tunnels with them but I could only speak to those I’d seen personally.

@@DB-thats-me | guess if you've grown up with geothermal parks on your doorstep, they don't have the same effect as they have on someone like myself who'd never seen anything like them before. Two places in the world have actually bought tears to my eyes with their stunning beauty, one was Mitre Peak the other was Lake Bled in Slovenia, both of which are featured on this channel. Doubtful Sound might be the most stunning fjord, but Milford Sound would be the place I'd recommend visiting simply because the drive is a much a part of the experience as sailing on the sound itself.
I'm sure you could add an extra dimension to any videos you post featuring your favorite New Zealand experiences with your own observations and anecdotes. They say everyone has a book in them, I've met few New Zealanders who have seen as much of the country as you have, especially from the cab of a train. Have you considered using your memories and photograghs to share some of your favorite moments either as a video magazine or as a book? I've never seen a glow worm glow, did they show up in the head-light of the train? that is a sight I'd love to have seen.

I was holding off watching this video until my AdBlock function returned on my AVG Secure Browser, but thought I'd give it a go anyway, and sure enough copped two ads at the 14:53 point in the video. I watch TH-cam to *GET AWAY* from the moronic ads I see on free-to-air terrestrial TV, so when they pop up during TH-cam videos, to me that's the *ultimate obscenity!* Ads aren't needed as many TH-cam content creators(myself excluded as my channels are but hobbies) have their own revenue-raising methods, Patreon, Memberships and Merchandise, which help them directly. I doubt that TH-cam content creators would even see one red cent of money from those accursed ads.

Hello Neil, adverts are a problem for viewers and creators alike, just recently TH-cam has announced that it is placing adverts on all videos, regardless of whether or not they have been monetized. I reduce the number of ad-breaks in my videos, but to go back through them all would take a long time. When I reduced the number of ad-breaks my viewing figures dropped by a considerable margin, leading me to suspect the algorithm promotes videos with the most advertising potential. Revenue is king today, sadly quality takes second place. I could increase my revenue by posting much shorter videos, showing only the more dramatic stuff weekly or more often. I don't make these videos for money, I could never make a living from TH-cam and I'd always be worried that a change of policy could result in my kind of videos being kicked off the platform because they don't make enough money. For me TH-cam is still a hobby, that does give me a useful contribution to my travelling, but the reality is I put in 2 dollars of my own money for every dollar TH-cam contributes and that is way better than I imagined would be the case when I started out, so I can't complain. These longer videos take more than a week, sometime three weeks to edit and I do sometimes feel TH-cam puts too much pressure on people to post weekly. At the moment I am using a mixture of older and newer material to create videos which takes longer than using just new material. I looking forward to travelling again, I could do with more new footage. There is an alternative that I am considering, that is to pay for TH-cam premium so that I can watch ad-free, it would be way better value than paying for the current politically biased stuff spewed out by the BBC, but that is a story for another day. Take care and stay safe. Tim.

@@Timsvideochannel1 Like you, I am a hobby videographer, and that's why I'd *object in the strongest terms* to any content I upload to have ads peppered through it! The comment that *TH-cam has announced that it is placing adverts on all videos, regardless of whether or not they have been monetized* shows that TH-cam is overreaching.* Trouble is, there is no alternative to TH-cam. Vimeo and Amazon both charge a fee to be on their respective platforms, so that rules them out as viable alternatives to TH-cam, but if TH-cam keeps on the way its going, it will lose all but a small handful of content creators, and it's us small amateur and semi-pro creators who are TH-cam's *Bread and Butter.*

We are where we are for the time being until an alternative comes along.
