    I yearn for a museum exhibit where every work has a QR code that links to a Smarthistory video

    One of the more interesting parts of these statues I didn't hear mentioned are that they are actually Greek influenced.
    The style is very clearly Greco-Buddhist stemming from Alexander the Great's conquests and the Silk Road spreading knowledge between Greeks and Indians.

      @@nicodamus6895 The video should be titled " How to recognize Maitreya" . Maitreya is one of many bodhisattva. The video contains no information whatsoever, on how to recognize bodhisattvas other than Maitreya.

    Gandharan Art had depicted the Buddha more of a Greek style. Even the normal sculpture found from the great Gandharan city of Hadda modern day Afghanistan, has influence of ancient Greek. Can easily recognized from the hair. And it was the most profound depiction of ancient indian sculpture style.

    In many lives Maithreya Bodhisattva has not wear any jewelries, some might he does, in the future if he is born in a King's family, yes he will wear, otherwise he will be in bhikku form or normal human being form. So actually for us as a human being cannot identify which form he will be coming to Earth from Heaven when he practices Dhamma before final life , not like Gautham Buddha, he has suffered more than Gautham Bodhisattva to be a final Buddha, He is the most powerful Buddha in the timeline of Buddhas referenced to Thripitaka. Maithree Buddha will live 80000 years when he reached his last life. So if you can come to Earth on that timeline, we are all fortunate to see him (the last Buddha on the earth on This Kalpa timeline).

      I wonder if this is true? In the 200 and 300s the classical sculptural tradition seemed to die out in the greco-roman world. And it's beginning in the east. Maybe they achieved this independently? Input from the @Smarthistory folks would be greatly appreaciated!

      We are kinda fed up with this presumed Greek influence as if we were too intellectually deficient to develop the art form ourselves

    • @CHAS1422
      @CHAS1422 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@varoonnone7159 That's not what it means at all. It important to celebrate all the influences that come from other cultures. Written language has a history that goes back to the middle east. To deny the truth of source is egotistical. The thread of ideas work in all directions. Vestiges of ideas and influences move in all directions. It does not make one greater than the other. Why take offense to evident truth?

      A friend of mine was called a Bodhisattva by the Dalai Lama. As you know, that means they cannot exit the samsara until the bad karma for every sentient being is paid for - and they will help pay with their good dharma. In one deep discussion about the burden of reincarnation after reincarnation, they even told me, "I hate the samsara. I wish it wasn't real."
      Some days later we visited a fabulous aquarium in which you walk up a viewing platform to be surrounded by fishes. Being a Christian I said with joy,
      "Praise God! Because of Jesus I not only don't have to pay for my bad karma, I don't have to pay for these fish's either!"

    Intuitively I am receiving a different story for these two statues. This is just my interpretation, but I feel together the statues are showing different stages of Bodhisattva. I feel the one on the left shows Maitreya in his earthly form choosing to be a Bodisattva, and the statue on the right I feel is not a historical version, but the version of Maitreya in a blissful state when he transitioned home to Source energy. The reason I say this is because my spirit guides have taught me when you transition to the nonphyical world and become a loving spirit, you are given a beautiful white robe; and I’ve heard several people who have shared their NDE experiences state our Heavenly version of us is about 30 years of age. I believe the statue called “historical”, on the right, reflects Maitreya’s Heavenly version as look at the difference in his facial structure, he looks like a 30 year-old. His face is more narrow and not as full as the earthly version of him, who appears to be older than 30 years of age.

    More amazing than this video was the comment about the QR code linking museum pieces to Smarthistory videos. I need this to happen. How many cycles of life until I reach that nirvana, pls. 😌 That would be incredible.
    I understood the urna to be a red dot (of dye or paint) rather than a whorl of hair, so that was interesting to learn. I was also intrigued by the flashy jewelry... I think of that more as humanity's attempt at demonstrating our value rather than anything divine. It reminds me of those paintings of Jesus where he's shown wearing all kinds of luxurious robes and jewels he had nothing to do with while alive. His value was far beyond any object he could wear.
    But heaven has streets made of pure gold, so maybe there's something to it, idk. 🙃
