    This video discusses neck pain and how it is related to cervical foraminal stenosis and nerve compression.

    Dr. Corenman created this video-cervical foraminal stenosis and nerve compression-to explain this condition as a cause of neck pain in more detail.
    This video uses a spine model and an actual cadaveric vertebra specimen to demonstrate how degeneration of the front part of the cervical or neck vertebra (called the uncovertebral joint) causes compression of the nerve root. The uncovertebral joint commonly develops bone spurs with degenerative disc disease of the neck. Since this joint is the front of the nerve exit hole (foramen), this bone spur will narrow the exit hole and can pinch the nerve. Bending to the side of the spur and bending the head backwards will cause the nerve to be compressed. Bending away from the pain and bending the head forward will relax the nerve and reduce pain (Please see the video Anatomy and motion of the cervical spine to understand how motion affects the nerve foramen).
    Although Dr. Corenman is a Colorado spine surgeon, he sees and treats patients regularly from all over the world. Please visit / neckandback to view all of Dr. Corenman's educational videos on the neck, back and spine.

    Whatever is going on with me is complex I get dizzy seemingly whenever my neck hurts and I have pressure in my ear with no infection present. The MRI did show a spur in the neck.

    I kinda figured that to be so. I don't suppose you have an office in Ft Lauderdale?

    My neck pain is killing me right now. I get "flares" quite frequently but more so when I run or exercise on my elliptical.
    I went to a chiropractor for a year...no help. Theraputic massages do help but get expensive.
    I'm 37, scared to think what this will be like at 57.

    I have a bone spur in my neck that's getting worse and causes dizziness. Can a spur also cause irregular hearbeat issues?

      I'm no doctor, I'm just someone who's having the same issues, had neck pain for 3-4 years and recently was diagnosed with stenosis on neck And I also have irregular heart beat, dizziness I feel out of place and weak. Don't know if it's because of this but yea just wanted to mention it.

    Im not a Dr but it means the nerves are being compromised, cut off, blocked squashed resulting in numbness weakness.

    You can see the nerve root opening is compressed? You're kidding? What do we have to compare it to?

    Hi Dr. Mork
    It's out of desperation I come to you on this TH-cam video. I have had a head injury from a bicycle accident where I had a I head injury Impacting my cervical spine. It occurred when a car suddenly stop before me and I careen on impact into the vehicle. I was not wearing a helmet- not sure if it Would've change the outcome. I am in constant pain Since 2009. Moving my head causes sharp sensation especially after waking up from sleep. Any activity makes me very tired; therefore, I'm wondering what procedure would be beneficial in correcting my ongoing pain. An MRI taken in 2012-13 shows cervical foraminal stenosis which may be causing nerve Compression.Thank you

    Do the symptoms from this come and go, or are they constant?

    • @Phinnixia
      @Phinnixia 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From my experiences with foraminal nerve compression my symptoms would come and go and change every few weeks/months

    • @SusanDayz3912

      @@Phinnixia Thank you for sharing that. Were you able to get it fixed and how?

    • @Phinnixia
      @Phinnixia 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SusanDayz3912 Yep, I had a disc bulge onto the right side of a foraminal nerve which caused pretty bad nerve pain/numbness/weakness in my right leg. Physical therapy helped a lot to take the pressure and compression off and the nerve pain went away. Though it was in my lumbar spine and I’m quite young (sport related injury) so I’m not sure if this may be different for cervical stenosis/compression
