Diana always wore her seatbelt. I read somewhere that because she was in a rush to escape the Paparazzi, she DIDN'T put it on. That crash looked survivable. If she had been wearing her seatbelt, she could've made it.
Agreed with a seatbelt she had a higher likelihood of survival however the narrator of this video makes a good point. If the French authorities bothered to invest in proper modern day crash barriers they all most likely would have survived the crash. Still to this day the Alma tunnel has no crash barrier just those columns. Lesson learned? Don't have a car accident in France.
@blackoil911 It's not 50km/h, but 50 miles/h, which means a speed of 80.5km/h. It may not look very fast, but believe me, when the point of impact is so small like the column, it's more than enough to cause extremely serious injuries or even death to all the passengers. This type of crash happens a lot in tree zones. The effect is the same as the column, and i know of two people that died in a 60km/h crash into a tree.
The Mercedes was not on the left bank on the Seine, as stated at 2:34. It was on the right (north) bank. This documentary definitely got a few things wrong, as expressed in the comments section. Overall though, I found it to be very insightful and quite well-made. The computer animation helped me understand quite a bit better what happened that night.
The design was perfect. That car was built to save everyone. First off all that car wasn't doing 60miles an hour. 60miles an hour doesn't cause long skid marks. Driver was drunk. 3 occupants of the car weren't wearing seat belts.
I have never seen a highway that has large concrete collumns right next to the driving lane, that is just stupid! I will bet that a lot of people have died from crashes in this tunnel.
Was there REALLY a white Fiat? I don't remember if that was proved. I remember the columns in the underpass being publicized at the time for being so dangerous. This is why all American freeways have reinforced concrete walls in their medians, so that vehicles hitting them will slide along and not stop catastrophically the way Di's Mercedes did.
Who in their right mind would want to come forward after an accident like that killing one of the most famous people in the world? Also, if this was a conspiracy, they would be killed if they tried to expose the conspiracy in any way. I believe the Fiat in the tunnel belonged to some Paparazzi called James Andanson who had been following Dodi and Diana in their final days and he had links to MI6. Mysteriously he was burned to death in his car not long after this happened.
There could be dozens of reasons: the driver might have had a few drinks, he might have been in trouble with the police, anyway, he might have told the owner he was planning to use the car to go somewhere entirely different, his licence might have been suspended, the car might not have been insured or taxed properly... It's not always the guilty party that flees from the site of an accident... I don't believe in conspiracies - and only a total nut job would try to ram an S-Class with a Fiat Uno, anyway...
4:00 fiat drove by without stopping.. hmm bad graphics because if it had been the way its shown here there would've been no room for the fiat to drive around the mercedes
You actually feel safer and more secure in a larger car, so perhaps this was the reason Diana didn't bother with her seatbelt but the main safety factor is whose driving how experienced they are with driving, the car and the route taken as well as the physical and mental condition they're in. You would assume a person allocated to drive such an expensive hotel car was fit to do so. Still think the tremendous pressure of paparazzi following was to blame rather than under the influence.
We ask governments in all countries to unite the bridge pillars as high as one or two meters so that if a car hits a bridge support, it can still slide not as badly as a car crashes into a bridge pillar so that an accident hitting a pillar like what happened to Princess Diana does not happen again, sorry and thank you
There was really a Fiat, they found the side mirror of the Fiat which is how they knew the model of the car. Pretty disgusting that the Fiat driver, drove past without helping.

Luke Kelly he wasn't drunk. Investigations said that, its imposible to drive a car on this speed while you have 1.75 of alcohol in your body, as Henry Paul, Diana's accident driver.
Looking at the videotapes of Henri Paul in the Ritz before the crash, and having heard the bodyguards Trevor Rees Jones and Kes Wingfield who categorically stated than Henri Paul looked completely sober, that doesn't match a 1.75 gram blood alcohol level found in his blood. That level would mean you wouldn't be able to walk straight and would be wobbling all over the place. That doesn't make any sense whatsoever unless someone deliberately added the alcohol to his blood after the accident or switched the blood samples.

my question is all car's the royals are in are reinforced why wasn't this car reinforced. Also if you look at the damage from the video that was made it does not match the actual damage done to the car. If you look at the roof of the actaul car in the pictures that were taken it looks like the car was flipped since the whole roof was dented in the way. Also before you jump to respond back to correct me if a car is in a head on crash the roof would not fold on its self. @blackoil911 First of all, i never said he was telling the truth. I know the driver was obviously at a much higher speed. I just started to correct the guy that said 50km/h, when in fact, the person in the video said 50 mph. After that, i said that if the impact was at 50 mph, it would be enough to cause serious damage. That's physics, and obviously you don't know pretty much about it.
Geez, they even lie on these reproductions! Diana's car never lost it's passenger side mirror. Look at the real pics of the damaged car, then look at the last 2 pics released from the inquiry. I'm not even sure the Fiat ever existed.
The Fiat was caught on video leaving the tunnel with the driver checking his mirrors. Paint from the fiat was found on the Mercedes and also the Fiat side mirror was found at the crash location.
There have been multiple accidents down the Alma Tunnel. Why the French can't be bothered to install a crash barrier or guard rail along the pillars is beyond me. The best advice I can give anyone is not to drive or be a passenger in any motor vehicle in France.
