"Lot of moving parts on this, this is definitely not a mass production lock"
Yup, I was watching thinking how much more there is to this lock than modern locks.
Nice to see how it all goes together

It’s in my vise now. Absolutely devious rebuild. I’m planning to take it to the August TOOOL Chicago meeting and then send along. I just received it yesterday and so far I’m getting nowhere. Well done. Thanks.

Really cool project and love the viewers participation….man I’ve never seen such nasty nasty pinning before…really kool challenge…wow…. I wonder if freezing the lock would maybe keep those jingles together enough to slide just as one unit….to make for an easier defeat…..

  • @sykoteddy

This may be a bit late but, if you have nothing to lose, you could try putting it in a ultrasonic cleaner, but that would remove all the patina as well 🤪

Whenever I get something old that's seized up, I throw the item into a bucket of used diesel oil for a few weeks after I fail at the "penetrating oil, tap it with a hammer, try a little force" thing. Seems to do a decent job, although you're now wrestling with a oily, greasy item you don't want to clean until you get it apart to do a proper job.

Hey Bill. I love your channel and want to say thanks for the hrs of great content. I started picking locks about 2 months ago after bumping into one of your videos by accident. I've already spent a couple hundred pounds on locks and am compleatly addicted. I've also gotten my son into it so we are learning together. It has brought the two of us closer together and it would have never happened if not for you and Thelockpickinglawyer.

Bill, in fairness I couldn't pick a one pin lock myself... Let alone five of your sorcery. 😂

  • @Teabagz4fun
    @Teabagz4fun 5 ปีที่แล้ว

It's nice to see a lock that offers you guys a decent challenge (Even before the new pinning) instead of the usual quickly picked stuff. Definitely gives a deeper insight as to the many ways to approach a non-destructive lock entry. Once I'm able to put together a beginners kit and practice a bit, I'll be sure to try to get in on some of these pass arounds!

Have you ever tried to use a key blank when shimming open a lock from the back? The ramp on the end of the blank makes controlling each pin cry precisely a breeze as opposed to raking which can bend your shim and make things more difficult.

You and Harry should've done a S&G 833 when you shot all of those other ones. We know what a 50 BMG does to it. Yall could've hit it with a .308 about 500 times, I'd bet. Demolition Matt hit the shackle with 50 BMG twice and the shackle didn't bust. Those things are STOUT!

Just a thought on old locks-an ultrasonic cleaner would help sometimes with the cleanup of the inside. I’d guess you would like to keep the patina on the outside.
That looks like a very hard lock to pick.

What? No secret sauce to start with?
Neat old lock. I have one similar, and I had to soak it in WD in an ultra sonic, and then rap it open. I could not shim the shackle.
All of the springs were powder, and a key pin was stuck in the powder halfway into the shear line. Took me 2 hours. Nice lock now.

I watched video 1344 today, it had a lot of the scritching that was evident a while back. The present day videos are much better, no scritching at all. Glad you got to the bottom of that and hope you have continued good luck with the voice. Did the throat cut leave a cool scar?
My fingertips used to dry and crack like yours, plain masking tape helps as much as anything, but I found no cure except to retire from work, the daily wear and tear on my hands stopped (of course) and they no longer dry and crack open.
